Sorry, I'm having a bit of a problem keeping up with ILX and everyone on it since I'm only posting from web cafes and at friends' houses.

Please pop onto this thread and feel free to tell me how you are doing, and what is going on, and what's been going on in your lives lately.

Oh, and especially remind/warn me about upcoming FAPs because I no longer have a bookmark for the FAP Diary!

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:43 (twenty years ago)

I'm feeling a bit rubbish and low lately. The "Wheeeeee!" of "I never have to go back to that job, ever!" has given way to the awful and terrifying financial reality of how broke I really am now.

There is nothing more devastating to one's self esteem than looking for a job. Every resume you send out and get no reply to is another papercut on the road to bleeding to death. ugh.

How is everybody else?

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:47 (twenty years ago)

After having received the best news evah today, I am really happy!! (but then you already knew that!) :-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:51 (twenty years ago)

kate, i concur and empathize. looking for a job is an awful, humiliating process.

what's going on with me: in two days i'm amtraking out to california (because i seem to have turned into gareth). then i'm helping chris flee the west coast for good; we're doing that via a good old-fashioned britney spears-style ROAD TRIP WHOOOO! it will last as long as the money holds out. pictures will be taken, oh yes.

results not typical (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Pretty good thanks, Kate, though petrified about the US election. I was a sailor for Halloween!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:57 (twenty years ago)

I am pondering the fates, gearing up for NaNoWriMo and waiting with equanimity as to whatever happens tomorrow electionwise. And I went to two fantastic Halloween parties up in LA on Saturday and am still somewhat exhausted.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:58 (twenty years ago)

I've emailed you, PinXor! Hurrah for road trips, Jody & Chris! Mark, I'm trying to avoid even thinking about the US election because I get so cross every time that twit in the white house comes on the telly that I start throwing things at the screen. Sigh.

There comes a point where there's nothing you can do about something, so you just want it to be over. I suppose if there is a regime change, that means I can go back and live with my mum if I really can't find another job.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Monday, 1 November 2004 13:59 (twenty years ago)

You still going to the Oxford FAP this Saturday?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 1 November 2004 14:08 (twenty years ago)

No. No money.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:10 (twenty years ago)

I'm hungover!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:12 (twenty years ago)

FAP Diary Link: http://my.calendars.net/ilxfap
(nothing planned for november except Oxford by the look of it).

I'm sad. Still.

koogs (koogs), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:17 (twenty years ago)

thanks for the link!

Gah, WTF has happened to the Reed site? it used to be so easy!

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:18 (twenty years ago)

and your gig on the 4th, of course.

koogs (koogs), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:18 (twenty years ago)

Insufficient funds. xpost

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:19 (twenty years ago)

Oh, no money! I was looking forward to meeting you Kate . . . waaaaah!

(I'm fine, thanks!)

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:22 (twenty years ago)

I'm alright. Looking forward to this stupid election being over (please, God, let it be so), and looking for a new gig (a task which is progressing with all the stealth of a glacier). The baby is now seven months old and could not be more of a joy. There are plans afoot for 25th Anniversary shows for Killing Joke in February, but alas...they're in London, so chances are I shan't be going to those.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:48 (twenty years ago)

Dammit, come to London, Alex, that's a good excuse for a piss-up PARTY!!!

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:51 (twenty years ago)

my cold is much much better now that i've been to the doctor and sorted it out. would like a bit more sleep, but fairly content with things at the moment.

somehow, viewing the election from a distance, it's not upsetting me as much as i think it should, really. i think it's more resignation than anything else. boo.

and it's compact week! http://www.thecompact.org.uk/Compact%20Week%20page.htm

colette (a2lette), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:52 (twenty years ago)

I was a Stepford Wife for Halloween! I went out and had fun and lost count of the large glasses of wine that I drank and then got very sick, but luckily was almost home by that point. I've been looking for work and have an "informational meeting" at a place I'd love to work in 2 days! I'm calling it that so I don't think too much of it being an interview and so get stressed about my lack of skillz. They probably don't have an actual job opening (nor would I be able to legally work full time) but they're willing to talk to me anyway. In school news I have not been doing enough research.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Today I'm feeling very positive, and thinking of lots of reasons to be cheerful. I just got an anonymous present through the post, and I am going to write an essay now, and tonight two people I know are on University Challenge!

Thanks for asking. : )

Cathy (Cathy), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:07 (twenty years ago)

Hi Kate! I am making slow but steady progress in Japanese, grappling half-heartedly with Library of Congress subject headings for my MA, being irritated by my whiny coworkers, and looking forward to Friday when I'll be colluding in symbolic religious persecution celebrating Bonfire Night in Lewes.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:19 (twenty years ago)

I'm discovering that the key to enjoying work is to have such terrible weekends that you're glad, or even grateful, to back to work on Monday mornings.

Bob Six (bobbysix), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:50 (twenty years ago)

Hi Kate. I might be moving to London. That's about it really (though is enough)!

3underscore (___), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:54 (twenty years ago)

I am strangely elated because:

1) Hopeful optimism over the election
2) The weather where I am is glorious (sunny, temperatures in the 60s)
3) I've got work lined up for the near future
4) My abdominal issues seem to have gone away (although I will be seeing a doctor on Friday).

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 1 November 2004 17:00 (twenty years ago)

i cleaned up my room big time yesterday, and also killed a lot of people and stole weapons from the national guards. a pretty productive day. i desperately need some booze to ruin the pattern again.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 17:01 (twenty years ago)

1) Hopeful optimism over the election

I wish I could share this.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 1 November 2004 17:14 (twenty years ago)

Hi, Kate! I am boyish, thin, sweaty, greasy-haired, and bisexual.

Kenan (kenan), Monday, 1 November 2004 17:18 (twenty years ago)

* I feel quite happy coz the clocks went back.
* Information Management MA is pretty boring. Am I a bad person for not really caring about the semantics of documentation?
* I plan to have the ILX comp ready by the end of the month.
* William Shatner's new album is great.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 1 November 2004 17:53 (twenty years ago)

Jel, what's "That's me trying" like? It was co-written by Nick Hornby!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 1 November 2004 17:58 (twenty years ago)

I'm forgetting to send you that email. I'm about halfway through, it's sitting in my Drafts folder. Yours took awhile to get to me due to a mis-spelling.

Bernard the Butler (Lynskey), Monday, 1 November 2004 18:02 (twenty years ago)

It's quite cool - if you can ignore the hornby, it's about looking up his long lost daughter in the phonebook. The one with Henry Rollins is the shiznit.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 1 November 2004 18:02 (twenty years ago)

I'm getting in to work regularly again, which I hope will save my job. I was happy about the DJing last week, but very unhappy about much, much bigger stuff that I can't discuss here.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 1 November 2004 18:49 (twenty years ago)

More bored than usual at work, but diggin on some old Rachel Sweet singles (go figure) while I watch the clock.

Successfully tuning out office/armchair pundits & thinking about Spring....

Good luck with the job search Kate...

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 1 November 2004 19:00 (twenty years ago)

I am having a pretty miserable day at work, work is becoming pretty unpleasant thanks to my co-worker. Other than that, things are okay.

I have too much leftover Halloween candy.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Monday, 1 November 2004 19:03 (twenty years ago)

We didn't get any trick or treators! Sitting around in the dark all night was worth it.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 1 November 2004 19:05 (twenty years ago)

I'm having a lot of fun in my band avec Nick. Halloween weekend was great. I'm actually pretty excited about tomorrow because I'm feeling very optimistic too.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 1 November 2004 19:08 (twenty years ago)

I've got good and bad stuff happening. I've started selling my CD collection via Amazon and have gotten good response in just a couple of weeks. On the down side, my dad's youngest brother died yesterday — the cancer spread through him like a brush fire. I invested in a good dark suit this morning because, well, I have a large family on my father's side, and I expect there will be a lot of funerals in the next few years.

Thanks for asking, Kate. Are you psychic? PS, good luck with the job-search adventures.

Euw!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 11:05 (twenty years ago)

I'm coming to london at the weekend i'm coming to london (again) . Am especially looking forward to seeing Caetano Veloso on Saturday.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:21 (twenty years ago)

Hi, Kate! I am boyish, thin, sweaty, greasy-haired, and bisexual.

Now that's more like it! That's cheered me right up! Hurrah!

Today I am stressing over the logistics of my band. I'm feeling a bit frustrated that the rest of the band are more interested in spending several hours discussing trivialities such as what should the frontperson say between songs, and how to get stage presence and what should they wear when I'm stressing over how to get three guitar amps across Hackney, how to have four people share two mics and what we are going to do for a bass amp. ARGH!

Still no word on the job situation. I applied for a few positions yesterday, but the only phone call I got was someone being condescending to me because I applied for a job in Luton. I said I would considering travelling for the right position. If you don't think I'm appropriate for the position, then don't put me forward for it. Don't just call me to be rude at me.

Should I reply to everyone individually? Wow, this is great. I'm happy for the people who are reporting that they are good, that cheers me up. (Though not as much as BOYZ.)

Archel, the Lewes Bonfire Night? Oh my lord, isn't that SCARY?!?!? Isn't that full on 17th Century No Popery blowing shit up? Oh my!

Underscore, that's pretty big news! But hey, it means that you can come to the FAPs. Hurrah.

J.Lu, I wish I could share your optimism, but I'm glad that your health is better.

Jel, spend a week in my own office, and you would start caring about the semantics of documentation, because you would be happy to see any documentation at all! ;-) Glad to hear that the comp is coming along, though.

Ken C, let's have booze soon.

Lynskey, I await yer email.

Martin, yer DJ-ing was great, it got me dancing. Hope that other things turn out better.

Rachel Sweet? As in those old London glammonsters? I've actually seen them a few too many times. Oh happy days.

Nicole, send yer candy over here, I could do with some choccy!

Sarah, tell me more about your band. Do you have any recordings that you can send me?

Sorry about the C-word, Rock Hardy, that suXors. I've never been to a funeral.

Colette, I'm scared to click on yer link. Oh dear.

If I'm forgetting anyone, it's because I suck and the new answers have disappeared. Keep the updates coming, please!

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:25 (twenty years ago)

*cries*

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:40 (twenty years ago)

Please don't cry, Sarah! I didn't forget you! Just I emailed you all the news I had yesterday!

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:43 (twenty years ago)

yeah I know, I'm only messing!!! ;-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:45 (twenty years ago)

Mess with me, why you little... ::shakes fist:: ;-)

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:47 (twenty years ago)

I did the "look for an SQL job" and now I have one. Starts the 15th.

They trieeddddd to get me to go to Luton too.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:50 (twenty years ago)

Hurrah for a new job!

I bet it's the same job in Luton, as well. Gah. Morons.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:50 (twenty years ago)

I should have told them "I WILL NOT WORK IN LUTON. LUTON IS JUST NOT ROCK'N'ROLL ENOUGH FOR BOBBY G, SO IT'S NOT ROCK'N'ROLL ENOUGH FOR ME!"

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:51 (twenty years ago)

heh. No, its actually in Reading, like where my house is (10 mins journey). I had been looking at Hammersmith/City jobs, (good for FAPs and so on), but hey, there is some 'out and about'ness to the role..

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:57 (twenty years ago)

DO NOT WORK IN LUNTON, I REPEAT, DO NOT WORK IN LUTON. thankyou.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 2 November 2004 12:59 (twenty years ago)

H to to izzo, v to the izzay.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 4 November 2004 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Hi Kate, just popping in to ask you if you're entering that Delays contest where they play at your house omgwtf! Also I can't find either of those cool Delays shirts you told me about :(.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 4 November 2004 23:56 (twenty years ago)

Heh. Alice is entering the contest to get Barney the Dinosaur to play at your nursery.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 5 November 2004 08:56 (twenty years ago)

(obviously as the Ramones are now unavailable)

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 5 November 2004 08:57 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I'm entering the Delays' contest cause it takes money to enter and I don't even have £1.50 on my phone. how sad is that?

Pretty depressed after the gig last night.

I don't even have the money to go watch Chuck DJ at Mother tonight.

"The other day upon the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there."

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:17 (twenty years ago)

i've entered it kate - if i win you can come watch with roxy

ken c (ken c), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:19 (twenty years ago)

Ah, cool. I told the Slantytown kids to enter, but their living room is too small. (OK, I know that Delays are actually tiny, in fact they are even smaller than I expected, but I still don't think they'll fit in there.)

Do you have a big living room, though, Ken? Can the Kissing Time come and play a gig in it? We're working on Charlie to let us use his living room, as it's big enough, but he's never there when we're all there!

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:33 (twenty years ago)

I could enter for Alice. Do you think they'd do "Blitzkrieg Bop" just for her?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure that they would... but having heard their Mazzy Star cover, do you really want them doing an etherial take on the Ramones?

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:37 (twenty years ago)

I'll enter for you if you like Kate - although I don't want them in my house!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:42 (twenty years ago)

my living room is tiny kate - that's why it's good. we can fit four people max when there's a band on - other people will have to keep taking the 29 Bus back and forth to watch the show on the upper deck. while others upper deck my toilet in jealousy of those who get to watch the show.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:43 (twenty years ago)

does charlie's toilet work yet?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:44 (twenty years ago)

etherial? no. Amber/Alice would rather "hey ho, let's go..."

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:48 (twenty years ago)

Hrmmm, that's a good idea. We will have to do bus-only gigs! One at Ken's house, where you have to ride the 29 back and forth. Another at Slantytown, where you have to ride the 38 back and forth to watch... (except watch out, coz it was the 38 that beat up Ruth last night!) Anyone else have a living room that is overlooked by a bus route?

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:49 (twenty years ago)

x-post... more like "hey, ho, let's wibble..."

(Aw, I heart Delays, they are actually a lot more RAWK live, but not exactly Ramones material.)

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:50 (twenty years ago)

It was them I saw in the HMV instore, a while ago. So I guess they could...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 5 November 2004 11:56 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and Doomie, if yer still reading... I don't see yer name in my inbox. (Unless yer masquerading as a mad Libertines fan sending me amusing messages.) We should go for that drink.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 12:01 (twenty years ago)

In keeping with the thread..I am feeling pretty rubbish & worthless today. :-(

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 12:19 (twenty years ago)

aw pink but you rawk!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 5 November 2004 12:20 (twenty years ago)

Apparently not everyone thinks so ken! :-(

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 12:24 (twenty years ago)

that's rubbish! who doesn't? bush supporters don't count.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 5 November 2004 12:45 (twenty years ago)

heh!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 12:50 (twenty years ago)

Aw, I'm sorry you feel rubbish today, PinX0r. Virtual hugs your way, because I still think you're awesome.

I'm finding comfort in the small things. I spent all afternoon going up and down Streatham High Street looking for a porkpie hat (for my costume tomorrow) and couldn't find one - until I looked in a chav shop and found one brand new for £4!!! Hurrah! My costume is complete.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:19 (twenty years ago)

I want pics kate!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:39 (twenty years ago)

Pics of what? The Kissing Time? Someone was taking photos last night, and i'm scared. Or pics of me in my costume as "Pete Doherty's Drug Habit"? Please dear god, let there be no pics of that! I will smash any cameras which are brought tomorrow. Which might be in character anyway.

Two-Headed Zombie With No Face (kate), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:40 (twenty years ago)

I bet Tracerhand has a porkpie hat!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:50 (twenty years ago)

I wanted pics of your outfit!
Ken - pls can you tell me what delish meal I will be missing out on this evening?!!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 15:51 (twenty years ago)

aw i'm still planning on the menu - i think it's going to be some kind of chinese food, and also the theme of the night is GTA3 (so there may be fried chicken in there somewhere!!! ;)))

ken c (ken c), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Heh, you just gotta eat the pizza til you throw up, it's so funny. Ooh & get yourself a g/f so that you can perform s & m stuff - very funny indeed! So I will be doing the same stuff as you, but i will be in my house - so it's kinda like I'm there!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:41 (twenty years ago)

yes! shame GTA3 isn't multi-player-internet-woohah! otherwise we would have had WASTING each other to look forward to!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:43 (twenty years ago)

Ah how cool would that be. I'd wear blue & you could stick with green & I'd stalk your ass!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 November 2004 16:45 (twenty years ago)

1,2,3,4 i provoke a gang-war!!

I don't think I understand. Is that a video game or something?

NO BLOODY VIDEOGAME TALK ON MY THREAD, DAMMIT!!!

So I have a job interview set for Tuesday. I'm not even sure I understand what the position even is - a quality coordinator. They want someone who is detail oriented (anally retentive, moi?) and understands databases, so I guess I'm qualified. The pay looks good. The downside is, it's for a PR firm. Yes, going over to the Dark Side.

Ach well.

Last night I dreamed I was a junkie. That was really bizarre. I was riding around on the back of a routemaster (yes, on the back. Not in it, on it, like in this weird jumpseat at the back, clinging on to the rails) with Pete Doherty, trying to find smack. GET OUT OF MY SUBCONSCIOUS, I DON'T WANT TO BE DREAMING ABOUT YOU. This worries me.

OK, maybe all it means is that I shouldn't fall asleep watching the Velvet Underground on the C4 rocknroll hall of fame, or something. Who knows.

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Saturday, 6 November 2004 12:14 (twenty years ago)

I am 90% certain that I'll be coming up to London this week for work purposes so it'd be good to arrange a fap for the evening. I'm thinking Weds or Thurs - what do you reckon?

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 6 November 2004 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Errr... I think we have rehearsal on Wednesday, so Thursday would probably be better for me. I think. I don't have my diary on me right now. But it would be good to see you!

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Saturday, 6 November 2004 12:25 (twenty years ago)

Saturday mornings are like the deadest time on ILX, are they not? I'm just trying to make sense of this job spec that I've been sent. It sounds like the company isn't even sure what kind of role they're hiring for.

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Saturday, 6 November 2004 12:30 (twenty years ago)

you're so right. I feel like I'm just having a conversation with you on all the threads, as if they've all mysteriously transmogrified into a Mark-Kate Instant Messenger!

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 6 November 2004 12:34 (twenty years ago)

But I've only been on, like... two threads this morning!

OK, fair enough, you've been on both of them.

I think I might be developing a hangover. I didn't even get drunk last night. Drank one bottle of wine and dropped the other on the floor. Grrrrrrr.

Masonic Laundry Boom (kate), Saturday, 6 November 2004 12:35 (twenty years ago)

Are you familiar with the general idea of Quality Assurance roles, Kate? It would generally be a job reviewing code and systems against their specifications and the organisation's standards, I believe.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 6 November 2004 13:06 (twenty years ago)

aw, gimme gangsta!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 6 November 2004 13:25 (twenty years ago)

Kate have you seen the TV ads for Debenhams with the toy double-necked guitar for £20?
Perhaps some kind soul will find a pic of it and post it here for you.

Rock Bastard, Monday, 8 November 2004 12:36 (twenty years ago)

Here it is, but I don't know how to post pics anymore.

Rock Bastard, Monday, 8 November 2004 12:38 (twenty years ago)

Argh, I was just about to search for this thread...

Toy doublenecked guitar? Someone can get that for me for Xmas after someone gets me the Libertines pr0n DVD. Oh yes.

I think I've discovered what a Quality Co-Ordinator. It's all to do with ISO and all that, and I've done ISO before. It's a bit of a pain in the arse, but I've got the kind of brain that can cope with it.

Hang on, it's only got 6 strings on each neck. What is the point of that?

Sigh.

Hey, Kate. Nick recorded our band practice yesterday for the hell of it, so I could send you some of that. It has lots of random speeding up/slowing down/messing up realness to it.

By the way, do you plan to go by your name for the solo stuff you sent me or are youg going to think up some band name for yourself, if you don't already have one??

I never did get any thing in the mail from you. But I think the store must have stolen it. Thank god we're moving.
