This is the Thread Where I Say Pt. 22: ...and then you'll hear some blood-chilling feminine screams!

I was getting sick of all that feminine screaming.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 18:32 (twenty years ago)

In other words, "shut up, bitch."

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 18:33 (twenty years ago)

Why do I feel as though those remarks were aimed at me?

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 18:33 (twenty years ago)

Can I do some masculine sobbing?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 18:33 (twenty years ago)

Ack!

Continuing from the last thread, that's terrible Archel was attacked! :-( :-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 18:33 (twenty years ago)

(I don't really feel the need to sob, don't worry.)

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 18:34 (twenty years ago)

Welcome back, luna.

How many of you participate in Secret Santa at work? I'm trying to decide if I should or not. We're supposed to spend $15 on whoever we draw, but we can opt out of it. I was thinking definitely not, because I'm a po' folk, but a couple of coworkers just assured me you get exactly what you ask for...

I'm eating jelly bellies.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm gonna be a REAL secret Santa at work. I get here before everyone else does in the morning and I'm going to take the opportunity to leave evidence of reindeer in people's desks.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:19 (twenty years ago)

How magical!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:23 (twenty years ago)

Huk, I've decided to have a hunky canadian one night stand in my NaNoWriMo story. Tell me all about canadians. What would a hunky canadian man say? How would he dress? Which part of Canada should he be from? I need answers fast as I'm working on this at my desk at my work NOW. Ready set go!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:25 (twenty years ago)

mounties!

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Huk, I can only hope this means you're responding with a very long, detailed post.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:33 (twenty years ago)

Put him in a Mountie uniform and have him say 'aboot' a few times, and Americans will believe in it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:36 (twenty years ago)

Shove in a pet moose and you'll get praised for detailed research.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:37 (twenty years ago)

What about "Eh???" That's canadian, eh?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Have him be the wealthy son of a maple syrup baron.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:44 (twenty years ago)

A baron who rustles up his syrup every year from the wild herds and brands it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:45 (twenty years ago)

And he's trying to protect his maple herd from the evil maple rustlers.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Who swarm down from the frozen hills on moose.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:47 (twenty years ago)

Have him be a liberal arts-educated farmer, wise in the ways of the heart AND the land. He should say things like "Let's go get a two-four" and "the medium is the message."

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:47 (twenty years ago)

Muttering their chilling battle cry: "Eh? Eh?"
xpost

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:48 (twenty years ago)

"evil maple rustlers" henceforth referred to as "hosers"

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:50 (twenty years ago)

Um, what's a two-four? Is that important? Maybe I should just throw that stuff in without explaining it or giving any context clues.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:51 (twenty years ago)

His name should be Tim Horton.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Either that or Gordy.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:52 (twenty years ago)

I have done exactly jack shit on my nanowrimo novel - maybe it will be more of a nanodecwriwihtmo novel

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:53 (twenty years ago)

Maybe only Huck will get this, but here's a hunky Canadian for you, Sarah:
http://www3.mb.sympatico.ca/~bshurb/hunkybill.jpg

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:54 (twenty years ago)

a two-four is case of 24 beers

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:56 (twenty years ago)

You can learn a lot from Bob and Doug McKenzie, Sarah.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:57 (twenty years ago)

Do Canadians use "beer" as the plural of "beer"? Because there's this Kids in the Hall sketch, the one about how rock'n'roll is dying out and will be replaced by jazz, where Dave Foley says something like "Now say you have six beer. And say three of those beer represent Ladysmith Black Mambazo..."

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 19:59 (twenty years ago)

"Bottles of" is implied.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Some do, but I don't. But then I also say things like "there's a herd of deers!".

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:01 (twenty years ago)

Have him not go on about the plight of the First Nations people.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:02 (twenty years ago)

Also, have him come from Biggar, Saskatchewan. Then he can alluringly say, "Do you want to see why it's called Biggar?"

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:02 (twenty years ago)

What should his name be?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:02 (twenty years ago)

Awesome.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:03 (twenty years ago)

Angus Metcalfe

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:04 (twenty years ago)

Aren't these mountain men supposed to be really hairy?

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:04 (twenty years ago)

Have it be slightly improbable. Jackson Mackenzie. Or else Mackenzie Jackson.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:05 (twenty years ago)

Argus O'Reilly

even some of us Butte men are hairy.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:05 (twenty years ago)

Horation McMann

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Does "Angus" have a nickname? Ang?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Lon Chaney III, Biggar's favourite son.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Well, "Gus".

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:09 (twenty years ago)

http://www.choosebooks.com/users/user_2738/images/002846.JPG

Huk-L, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:10 (twenty years ago)

This really should probably be its own thread.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:11 (twenty years ago)

Sorry. I derailed the thread about nothing!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:12 (twenty years ago)

We already push the limits of most people's Saskatolerence to begin with, I suspect.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:13 (twenty years ago)

You can't derail a thread that isn't about anything.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:17 (twenty years ago)

"As I went in one eveing, into a small cafe, a forty-year-old waitress, these words to me, did say.
I see you are a logger, and not just a common bum, cuz nobody but a logger, stirs his coffee with his thumb."
That's from memory, too.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 20:18 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I need to get that DVD. I've heard about that song -- "This Mighty River"? You can hear traces of it in the overture.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:12 (twenty years ago)

Well, the day it has gone, the night it has come,
The woods are all dark, but you're still a bum.
The moose go "MOO!," the deers are there too,
And the monsters are cooking up a disgraceful soup for you
At the party in the woods tonight,
At the party in the pale moonlight,
So we gonna get on the floor, let's rock some more
At this party in the woods tonight.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:14 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I was effusive enough about Huck's blog entry. I REALLY LIKE YOUR BLOG ENTRY, HUCK!!! I can't tell if it's fact or fiction but I guess it doesn't matter. I think I need to start writing some minimalist fiction (in the vein of Donald Barthelme) in our blog.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:20 (twenty years ago)

Some namesw have been changed and some locatoins obscured, but "ruby" really devasted my heart, as I wrote.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:22 (twenty years ago)

Although my favorite is definately Parker Posey's deleted monologue. (I had typed the best part here but I realize from Jaymc's comments he has not seen it yet)
I really liked your blog entry too. It had that great nostalgia to it that I love in writing. You could make it your own "Goodbye Columbus"

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:24 (twenty years ago)

It was one of those, I could either call her or write about her moments, and I think I'm better off not calling her today when I'm so filled with longing for the feeling of being 18 and carefree (but not realizing how carefree).

Huk-L, Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:27 (twenty years ago)

Good Tuesday kids. Hey Julia! ::hugs::

Orbit, are you talking about Lady Di? Man I so wish I could go.

I just posted a bulletin on MySpace asking for scrap paper to use for copies here at school. how pathetic is that?

Fortunately my friends with real-jobs that do things which make sense are coming through. Cause you can be damn sure I ain't buyin' no copy paper.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:29 (twenty years ago)

Sam: Yep the Lady Ms. Lurex! Want to hop a commuter flight? We could have fun. It's the total Thai evening, food first and then an awesome dive Thia-run karaoke bar with an insane list- everything from Sinatra to the Sex Pistols! Come out! Come out! Bring Dee!

Orbit (Orbit), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 18:32 (twenty years ago)

Nick, did you just now get my txt msg?!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:11 (twenty years ago)

(Yesterday you said TEXT ME L8R BOO!)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:11 (twenty years ago)

OH! Yes, I just got your text now and I was cornfused! Ha ha! I am very slow today (see: Huck misunderstanding upthread and the PLAYGROUND TAUNTS thread).

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 19:18 (twenty years ago)

Aw, shit: http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3099757a4560,00.html

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 20:20 (twenty years ago)

This is the thread where I say I am completely fucking insane.

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 01:47 (twenty years ago)

No, this is the thread where I say I am not insane, but I figured out why I *thought* I was insane, and ahy it was in someone's best interest to *make* me think I was insane. It took me two years for all pieces to fall together, and there it is. Sinister. True. Disgusting. My faith in human beings as a race is completely shattered.

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 01:49 (twenty years ago)

I am finding a certain amount of comfort in scrambling and then solving my Rubik's cube lately. It is nice that some things are solvable.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 01:50 (twenty years ago)

Luna, every time I drive past the restauraunt 'Luna' on Western Ave, i think of you.

Remy (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 04:08 (twenty years ago)

Models? Hand models, maybe.
I didn't feel like posting that to the Amazing Race thread, sorry.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 17 November 2004 04:18 (twenty years ago)

Orbit, you had faith? wow. . .

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 05:43 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'm quite the pollyanna, actually, always believing in the basic goodness of people, expecting them to take the high road, to do what i would do. It's what makes me me, and what makes me a sucker.
I'm sorry for that little outburst up there, I had a spaz,a really bad night but I'm a little better now.

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 05:51 (twenty years ago)

What happened, hon? Sounds like some kind of sinister "Gaslight" scenario.

Kenan (kenan), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 06:08 (twenty years ago)

Wonderful. You're better at writing about music than I ever was, which I guess is why I stopped doing it. Thnx for that.

Kenan (kenan), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 07:37 (twenty years ago)

Aww shucks. Thanks. I don't think I'm great at writing about music yet. That was the first piece I've written in ages that didn't feature lots of descriptions of what various instruments are doing, which is my crutch.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 07:42 (twenty years ago)

Musicianist!

Kenan (kenan), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 07:51 (twenty years ago)

I also liked the NYTimes piece, which referenced the inarguably rockist anti-disco incident in Comiskey Park in 1979. Here's a piece of Chicago history that I don't know, but am very interested in learning about: how did a city that inspired what amounted to an anti-disco riot also become the birthplace of house music, which is easily disco's most direct descendant? Can we chalk that up to mere diversity, or was some kind of backlash involved?

Kenan (kenan), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 07:55 (twenty years ago)

I forget you don't read ILM anymore, Kenan. You probably won't be surprised to learn that NYTimes article spawned a gigantic thread.

As for Disco Demolition, I could be wrong, but I don't think Chicago had any more anti-disco sentiment than anywhere else; it's just where it happened to take place, you know? It could just as easily have been a DJ from Kansas City or Pittsburgh or Seattle.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 08:00 (twenty years ago)

I have decided that Steve Dahl and Jim Derogatis are the same person. Dero is clearly just an old, fat, pock-marked Dahl.

Kenan (kenan), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 08:16 (twenty years ago)

morning kids. I don't think anyone took Ned up on his offer to give away a stuffed anteater, up there! Send it to us, Ned. I mean, STUFFED ANTEATER! That would liven up the apartment some.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:05 (twenty years ago)

hi sarah! did you hear about that job yet?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:10 (twenty years ago)

no :(

must contact them today somehow :((

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:11 (twenty years ago)

Ah sorry!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:12 (twenty years ago)

Hey hon, are you sure we have space for a stuffed anteater? I mean we can make space, indeed we must, but where do you think it should go?

Maybe give the guy who interviewed you a call - all you have to say is "I was wondering if you'd made a decision on employing me yet" and leave him to reply. If he's not able to offer you a job, you might want to have an alternative suggestion (work experience maybe?) ready so that you can take advantage of his feeling bad for not offering you the job.

Ol' prune face (Mark C), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:16 (twenty years ago)

that's okay. Must do it! Must be persistent! Must fight anxiety! etcetcetc.

I'm also trying to eke out the motivation for a trip to the gym. I've had to be out of the house all day until late at night the two days since we went to Ikea, and haven't had a chance to put together any of my new furniture or re-organize and clean my room, which I would sort of rather do than leave the house. I dunno. Faffy faff faff, that's me.

xpost--Mark we could put it on the coffee table ;) Or use it to put our feet up on, instead of the coffee table. It might be more comfortable.

I was gonna email him, since he's quick about responding to them, and otherwise I'll get nervous, tumble over my words, and not say what I mean, I'm afraid.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:19 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, an email should be good. Don't mention work experience or anything in a first email though - just a quick, simple "Have you had a chance to consider me" note would be best.

Yes, an anteater footstool! I see where you're coming from. Maybe we can then expand - a chinchilla pillow, say, or a vietnamese pot-bellied pig doorstop.

Ol' prune face (Mark C), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:24 (twenty years ago)

or maybe steal Beryl Bainbridge's moose! Much as I may find them creepy, taxidermied things would blend in well with the whole museum vitrine/barrister bookcase/antique science instrument interior aesthetic about which I daydream.

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:26 (twenty years ago)

I must admit, I am not liking the direction you two are heading in!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:50 (twenty years ago)

It's okay Pink, we're allergic to cats.

Ol' prune face (Mark C), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 11:52 (twenty years ago)

Dude, it aint just the cats I'm concerned about!!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:04 (twenty years ago)

think of the anteaters!

really though, taxidermy disturbs me far too much to have it in my house I think. My museum, though, that's different ;)

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:21 (twenty years ago)

Think of the Lost Boys, that should put you off!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:27 (twenty years ago)

yesterday i got a new cell phone, it is the coolest. its tiny though...it doesn't feel like im holding it right or something. sure beats the shit out of the brontosaurus of a phone i had before.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:32 (twenty years ago)

hmm, a stuffed vampire might be interesting...

hahaha that just reminded me of the Jeremy Bentham cabinet from UCL! Creepier: taxidermy-ing one's pets or oneself?

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:33 (twenty years ago)

mmm, i wouldn't mind a stuffed keifer sutherland in my bedroom!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:50 (twenty years ago)

i think last nights baby making may have been the one. as the donald says it was "yooge".

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:55 (twenty years ago)

that and the fact that i haven't rubbed one out in a week.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:55 (twenty years ago)

hahahah! best of luck dude!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:56 (twenty years ago)

thanks.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 12:58 (twenty years ago)

is it time for a new thread?

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 13:37 (twenty years ago)

Where's Luna? I think it should be called "the baby making thread"

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 13:39 (twenty years ago)

I started a new one. Pt 24...make some babies.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 17 November 2004 13:45 (twenty years ago)
