For no other reason than I just happen to have a recent pic of it. Note ILX on computer screen (as opposed to, y'know,....work).

I'd take a picture of my office but it is filled mostly with despair, which doesn't photograph well.

Why hasn't this thread taken off, dammit!

Alright, looking left from earlier photo:

You office looks like...fun. My office is terrible compared.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 3 December 2004 03:34 (twenty years ago)

is that a...yellow hardhat?

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 3 December 2004 03:40 (twenty years ago)

It seems very AlexinNYC to me that he marks off each passing day on his calendar with a big black X.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 3 December 2004 03:42 (twenty years ago)

hahaha its true

bulbs (bulbs), Friday, 3 December 2004 03:43 (twenty years ago)

The hardhat belongs to my co-worker John (who sits to my right...this office sits five people, the rest of the office is not pictured).

It seems very AlexinNYC to me that he marks off each passing day on his calendar with a big black X.

The little yellow sticky-note underneath the calendar is a note from an old co-worker (from `96) that reads: "You know, Alex, marking the days off like this is something a prison inmate would do...."

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 3 December 2004 03:47 (twenty years ago)

But, it's not bad, honestly. I sit a little too close to the televisions for my taste (I'm sure my grey matter is eroding from cathode ray poisoning). The News Desk is often referred to as the "News Lounge", the "News Garage" and/or the "Noise Desk". Har.

Rock Hardy, does the thermostat work the wall unit or huh?

And is that a Salty Dog in your glass to help you through your day?

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Friday, 14 January 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

PP, that's the alarm system controller, not a thermostat. (The owner of a local security company is a bigtime deer hunter. My parents traded out alarm installations on their house/shop and my office in return for hunting rights on their 100 acres.)

And yes, sort of, that's a big ol' greyhound. Je4nne gave me the idea the other day on the vodka thread. THANKSH JE4NNE!!

Thanks, Mandee, the artist is a good friend of the family. Aside from working on canvas and paper, she does really nice paintings on feathers (turkey, macaw, whatever she can get her hands on).

I hope this works. It's the shop. I use the laptop (with wireless konnektion) in the shop and the iMAC is in the back on the desk (in the back). I am jealous of Alex and his desk and his baby. :-)

I am jealous of Alex and his desk and his baby. :-)

Why thanks, Stevie. We've since moved offices. The office of mine pictured above no longer exists. Will post pics of new office accordingly at some point.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 14 February 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

tre, is that one of those magic-touch lamps? you know the kind?

It does look like one, doesn't it? Sadly, it isn't. Just as well, since I'd probably sneeze and turn out the lights.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 14 February 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

Hamsters probably inhabit a better environment.

It doesn't look to be as much of a hole as my windowless store-room of an office, with lots of angle-and-chipboard shelving and a metal desk that gives me an electric shock every time I sit down. I keep meaning to take my camera in to work to take a photo for this thread.

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 14 February 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

Ken, does that mean "Quality Assurance is OK"?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 06:19 (twenty years ago)

haha i GUESS so actually!

QA is the testing/development version of the computer system we're installing to our hospital, three month's ago I got really fed up with it and made a thing that said "QA SUX" with blu-tac

but after a while i realised it may have given away too much of my job dissatisfaction, so i kind of morphed the words to say "QA's ok" and to be fair the system is now actually pretty much ok!

(if you look at the photo carefully you can still see where the morphing occured!)

http://dutchtoenglish.com/pipes.jpg

The view of the pipe supply company next to our building.

I'm next to the water, and the view is actually quite nice. I watch seagulls drop clams and crabs to break open their shells. I watch sailboats when it's nice out. I also watch people sneak their household trash into the BFI dumpster behind the building. I like the combo of industrial and scenic this office space offers. Note the flat of seed starts - got tomatoes and broccoli seedlings started.

Maria D. (Maria D.), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

I love the little seedlings by the window. :-D

I sit in a windowless room, but if I take a walk around I see Lake Erie to the north and all of Cleveland to the east, west and south.

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Friday, 1 April 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

To add to Col's lovely view, here's the view from my current desk - this is the view when I'm on night shift anyway. Flinders street railway station at night. Loverly.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 20:40 (eighteen years ago)

This will probably be a stupid question, but I don't recognise the map, so: "the east coast" of what is that, Ned?

StanM, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 20:43 (eighteen years ago)

It's the East Coast of England, but it's a nautical map so it only shows the edges and a couple of rivers. It's my favourite thing.

Because "anal is a polite word" for what I am I notice that some non-fiction books have crept up here. I try to keep the fiction here and the non-fiction downstairs. I am sad.
