I'm fine.

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

That's nice.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

pretty good. the day is going slow but I feel centered.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

Snotty

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

also i might be getting a visit from a good friend which is nice to think about.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

I'm super! Thanks for asking!

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

I knew someone wouldn't miss the chance to say that...

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

My shoulders have been sore the last couple days, but that's nothing new. Just a little more than usual, I guess.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

I just made myself some tea. Earl Gray.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

I'm looking forward to a phone call when I get home. From a friend.

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

I think I'm going to skip yoga tonight and work out instead. then I'll do the washing up. It's my driving test tomorrow.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm gonna smoke a bowl and play video games, as usual.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:35 (twenty years ago)

I'm mad at my boss again. He insisted on going with the $4/month web hosting service instead of the $10/month, because he's cheap as George frickin' Constanza, and the server crashed -- no joke -- 10 minutes after I started uploading files to it. I would smile smugly and say "I told you so," but that wouldn't get the work done any faster.

Other than that, I'm fine.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

My mood was improved .0005 percent by this picture:

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

It's my driving test tomorrow.

Break some leg, adam!

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

polyphonic you are enlightened

Juan, the Magic Don (jingleberries), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

I'm okay, just about. Not at my cheeriest by any means but there's nothing actually the matter. I believe the word is "snuh".

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

I might move...I mean, like, away. To Oahu, actually. Probably gonna take more than a year, though.

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

I suppose you could still access the internet from there.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I know. I was just SAYING...

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

Oh I was just musing.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

Oh. Ok.

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

Sorry...

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

I'm coughing occasionally, after flu late last week, and still a bit weak from that, but otherwise okay, and in a pretty decent mood of late too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

Jeez, I hope I get a letter.

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

I just bought a goshdamn house. I'm now cash-poor and basically tethered to a town that can be rather irksome (sometimes). On the other hand, I'm finally able to extricate myself from the twixters whose very existence is a slap in the face of the Amurcan Dream.

So, elated with a dash of nausea. Thanks for asking.

Will (will), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

Sounds good!

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

Ok Spencer, you just made me shoot water out of my nose. Ow.

Otherwise, I'm good. Eating cheese, bread and olives, and feeling fine.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to own a house. In sonoma or something.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

Nowell seems more prosaic than usual.

Sonoma sucks.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

How would you know? Ukiah isn't in Sonoma!

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

Fucking SHIT.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

What's "prosaic" mean?

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=prosaic

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

Well, what sense was he using it in?

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

The literal sense.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

I'm doing moderately okay, much better than yesterday's hissy fit. Listening to Sly & the Family Stone (the Fat Elvis years), contemplating several projects on my plate, including a possible Bay Area trip in the spring.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

My girlfriend had a bad day yesterday and I'm feeling the aftershocks

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

Tread lightly.

My wife told me today, "Yesterday I thought about coming out to your office and putting a towel over your head." I guess I was acting like a horse that was too scared to leave the burning barn.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

Adam i lived in sonoma for the first 22 years of my life.
plus Ukiah is an hour away from where I live now.
Sort it.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

Pretty good. A little tired and a little full.

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

Sort it.

OK

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

Sonoma is nice, though. Maybe I can poitn you to some nice parts. Do you like sausage?

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:47 (twenty years ago)

You'll still have to drive back to SF to do most anything worth doing.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

I like sitting and reading and listening to birdsong.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

Yeah you can do a lot of that, just like don't try to find any decent live music venues or anything.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

I don't like live music.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, I can't afford a house!

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

You might be able to in Mendo. Sonoma has been slowly becoming more and more for rich folk.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:55 (twenty years ago)

I was just musing.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

i am ok but it could be a combo of xnanx/merv/vodka/redwine and something else i've forgotten. i threw it all in a dumpster cuz i cant fucking stand drugs and it gave me this wonderful buzz. guys u should consider getting hi on life more often.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

John, for heaven's sake, are all those "I am drunk ha ha look at me ma no hands" threads yours? This is like waking up to find the cat's crapped in the planter again.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

WHy are you now saying "last night" when you only started posting trashed rubbish a few hours ago when it was supposedly 3am or something? Not that much time has passed. You nut.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

Dude, it's okay to go back to previous "I am drunk" threads and resume them. The other drink-and-posters manage it. Go on AIM or something. This cry for help shit is too Facts of Life for a Saturday morning.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

Go drink some water.

Lay down.

Feel better.

The next time you feel like starting a dozen threads about nothing instead of opening up a chat window, don't.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

Tep speaks wisely.

Also, you did so start a thread that said "help" about 2 hours ago. If you have no idea what you're even doing you shouln't be online at all - this shit will come back and bite you on the ass when you're 30 and trying to get a job and someone googles "John Dahlem" and sees all this crap...

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

hi. i am fine, see. some preposterous hacker decided to have some fun. a pity as it could conveivably ruin my career. i will have tos peak to A1 sex-stud mod about this. later. when i give a fuck.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

You're fucking kidding, right? Nice try.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 22 January 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

The loud crazy guy in this department is starting to get wound up again.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Saturday, 22 January 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

I took the last old-format SAT today. I'm crossing my fingers for a 1600! (though I kind of doubt I achieved it)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

Well, the auction was fun. I didn't get the Oz book, but I got a few other possibly profitable items. And does anyone know if Gusano de Oro is a good brand of mezcal? I bought a box off of a guy that had an OLD unopened bottle of that in it, plus an unopened bottle of French brandy and a nice cut-glass decanter. Oh no, auction fever has set in!

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

What did the guy who won the Oz book end up paying for it?

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Sunday, 23 January 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

so what was Nowell's burning question?

eman (eman), Sunday, 23 January 2005 00:33 (twenty years ago)

Aaron, he gave $22.50 for it. I did a little research yesterday and it looked like copies in this condition go for a rough price range of $25 to $40. I wasn't prepared to shell out more than I was sure I could double within a couple of months.

Whew, three power outages due to high winds since I got home from the auction.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 23 January 2005 01:00 (twenty years ago)

eman, no idea what Nowell's question was.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 23 January 2005 01:01 (twenty years ago)

Do you know offhand what a 1st ed. of The Wizard of Oz is worth? Considerably more, I would think...

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Sunday, 23 January 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

I should get a guide to old book values before I do much more of this auction stuff. After I won a couple of lots of books, an elderly gent came up to me and said that he owns an old house that's been empty for several years, and it's got loads of old books in it that he'd sell me. He said he thought the books dated from the '30s, though how he knew that I couldn't say. I got his name, directions, phone #. This might be my big score.

I found an online price guide at fadedgiant.net and it gave a range for 1908 editions of that Oz book of $20 to $44. The ebay and Amazon sales I saw were in line with that. One guy had an edition autographed by Baum for about $450, but that's a whole nother kettle of wax.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 23 January 2005 01:17 (twenty years ago)

Have I missed anything?

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I tried to write some poetry.

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

Ha, hi Nowell. You didn't miss anything that matters. Someone wanted to know what your question was, I don't remember if they found out or not.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

You know what it is, right?

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

No idea! I don't remember the context anymore, just someone asking about it up thread.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

I don't remember either! But I heard that fettucine and mushrooms and garlic are good for the memory, so I'm jamming myself full of that. (I just sat down at the computer with my dinner.)

Hi Nowell, how's life in the islands today?

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

Hey, wait a minute, I'm an hour late. NEVER MIND!

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

I just had an interview and I think it went okay :)

youn, Friday, 28 January 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Nowell, would you post some of your poetry? Pleeeeease!

bprofane (AaronHz), Friday, 28 January 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

four months pass...
I couldn't find the last thread I made, and I didn't want to make a new one...so...

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

Here I am.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

Today's my birthday, you know.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

Happy birthday! Sixteen or seventeen?

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

Sixteen.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

Someone very evil deleted my last thread, I know it.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:37 (twenty years ago)

hitler?

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:37 (twenty years ago)

No, Nowell, the search function has just been buggy lately.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:38 (twenty years ago)

Maybe not evil. Just...uppity, I guess.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)

Do get a grip, Nowell. It's right here: Hey

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

Oh.
Well, I'll be damned. Forgive me for overreacting.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

You won't be damned, but I am holding on to your birthday present for another year. Better luck with #17.

(PS -- it was a pony.)

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

You're funny.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)

1989. I don't know if I could say that was a good year.

Pick one album from the year 1989.
