Do you just need a UK passport for a holiday visit?

You'd need a passport for certain! A visa OTOH you wont if its a holiday, AFAIK. As long as you dont engage in work or seminars.

I've just been to America from the UK to visit my brother, and all I had was my passport and plane tickets. Had to fill in a form on the plane too, but that was it. Security seemed pretty tight, but didn't have any problems at all.
