Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

Hi, Adam!

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 00:49 (twenty years ago)

I don't talk to people on ILX outside of ILX. This is why I am not one of the "in" crowd. (Also, I have never attended a FAP.)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

(Mainly because I cannot, legally, FAP.)

kingfish van vlasic pickles (Kingfish), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:05 (twenty years ago)

Do you mean on or offline? If it's offline, it's because there aren't many Phila people on here that I can tell. Online? I'm still figuring all this stuff out.

Sara Sherr, Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:07 (twenty years ago)

Cynical, bitter old man crap on ILM? You don't say! Who could you possibly be talking about? ;-)

Don't Ever Antagonize The Horny (AaronHz), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:36 (twenty years ago)

But...but...I don't post any of my cynical, bitter old man crap on ILM - just here on ILE.

Aimless (Aimless), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

I don't even know who I don't talk to much!

Darius Rucker Lookalike (deangulberry), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:44 (twenty years ago)

I don't really talk to anyone much on a regular basis outside the sheepfuxor threads, however there are people I "notice" more than others.

kate/baby loves headrub (papa november), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 05:46 (twenty years ago)

You know, I'm struggling to figure out people to put onto this thread, even though I know I don't really engage with a hell of a lot of people here. Well, I don't think so, anyway. I don't know. This place is so crammed with people that it's very easy to not interact, either at all or a little bit, with a hell of a lot of individuals.

I guess I could just pick the whole of ILM and leave it at that. Um, except for the people off ILM who are really active here on ILE too.

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 06:03 (twenty years ago)

I wpouldn't say there's anyone I don't specifically engage with. My posting habits are extremely erratic so I'm on here at odd hours, so I bump into most at some point. Also, what Dee said.

Hi t\'\'t; you're probably another person I owe an email to; I also owe the artist formerly known as ramosi.

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Friday, 11 March 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

Oliver Twist
star anise
Thermador
Restore & Restyle
Mr. Coffee
linoleum

Top that!

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Friday, 11 March 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

they've spent thousands and thousands of hours studying, reading, critically engaging in music discourse etc., etc., and see any board-contribution which doesn't directly involve them (or exist at a high-enough level) as fine, decent conversation, but ultimately distracting and w./o. engaging them enough.

who are these numbnuts and what are they being distracted from?

miccio (miccio), Friday, 11 March 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

I think this discussion could use an actual example of what they're saying these days on ILM, so:

kelly is all woman, pure woman, perfect woman.
gr8 songs,fantastic voice,nice ass.hot videos

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Friday, 11 March 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Did nabisco give you permission to quote him like that?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 March 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

actually anyone who distracts us from Kelly Clarkson's ass deserves all the ire they get

miccio (miccio), Friday, 11 March 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Hi t\'\'t; you're probably another person I owe an email to; -- Frank Kogan

(That's not strictly true in every possible sense, perhaps, but in my dire times of need & lack it's kind of heartening to read that somebody, albeit theoretically, "owes" me something ;)

Hulloo-hulloo, Frank!

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Friday, 11 March 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

It required 1/2 a bottle of Chardonnay to read this entire thing. i will now open another bottle and go to ILM.( I have never been). Will report back later.

aimurchie (aimurchie), Sunday, 13 March 2005 03:55 (twenty years ago)

I don't know who I engage with. I sorta think of ILX as a colossal spitoon.

otm

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 13 March 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

Went to ILM, read some threads, posted to one about Peter Gabriel. besides me being confused by not knowing enough about music, everyone seems nice so far. Only one glass of Chardonnay consumed. I think I'll go to ILCooking and start a fight. Will report back.

aimurchie (aimurchie), Sunday, 13 March 2005 04:33 (twenty years ago)

No fights available. I was invited to ILB by the founders wife (Scott - and Maria) - and then led to ILX by my tend towards political conversations/their desire for me to experience Ilx. I can't imagine getting through the past year without Ilx; my ability to post ballswinging words was a major part of my sanity during this years election in the U.S.. I felt continually educated and enlightened by the political threads.
I really don't know where else to go to find a group of enlightened and compassionate folks who care about the subject.Whatever the subject may be.
I LIKE to argue.

aimurchie (aimurchie), Sunday, 13 March 2005 06:51 (twenty years ago)

no you don't

Sven Bastard (blueski), Sunday, 13 March 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

aimurchie, yo sober yet? or still liquidly engaged?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 13 March 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Relatively sober. I guess what I like in general - and about this thread - is passion. I may not join the fray every time, but I LOVE everything that inspires people to write their thoughts in a semi coherent fashion. It's communication - and as we get continually lost in an abundance of content, it is nice to see real words from real people, even if it's just "So, I just told my boss to fuck off:C/D".
Getting back to the original premise - I have no contact with anyone here outside of here, except Scott and Maria. Ned and I have certainly engaged, to the point where I feel that, if and when we meet, it will be fun. I felt closer to people on ILB, when that was my regular thang, but I'm really bad at keeping everyone's moniker in my head, and ILX has sorta destroyed my recognition abilities.
I don't do this from work, so maybe that pre-detemines my reluctance to join a "hey, what's up",regional thread. I'm usually here at night and on weekends, and sometimes the silence is deafening.
I think that the fact that I think about it - and you (all of you) think about it, means there is a huge cultural significance to this. If you take that premise as true, then we can continue on and say that this particular culture exhibits the same signs of infighting, sniping and bullheaded rhetoric as any other culture. it also has flashes of brilliance, and a very good evolutionary chance.
I wish I had been here in 2001...well, ok, but wishing doesn't change anything, and progress is promoted through dialogue and events. And dialogue about events, whether it's someone's bad day or the situation in Fallujah.
It's all about communication - everything - and we can endlessly talk about subtext and meaning. But words written down and sent to a board such as this is a positive affirmation of the desire to be heard. We all want to be heard, yes?
On ILB, there was a "poetry thread" that went on to thousands of posts. The strange and wonderful thing about it was that everyone kept posting poems. Not their own poems, although you might assume that poems abound in that community. Just...poems. And the "poetry thread" became a touchstone for many people, myself included.
Every day, going to the poetry thread, revealed some wisdom or laughter that I might have missed.
To me, that was the highest form of communication. And I appreciate every nuance of this form of communication, because without it, I'd be more lonely.
My long responses tend to kill threads, so...get back to your witticisms, please.

aimurchie (aimurchie), Sunday, 13 March 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

And I get the impression that I have interacted with Nathalie and Blueski and Kate Masonic Boom despite our not, as far as I can recall, ever actually having an interchange with them.

So, hi! Whassup?

I'm mighty fine. Congratulations on the book deal. Have we emailed back and forth? I don't recall doing so.

I wish I was part of the *incrowd* (read: furiously emailing with a dozen people) but then I realize I'm so lazy when it comes to replying... I don't know, I don't think I really *fit* on ILM as I don't have a Tommy Lee sized dick I can wave around. Yet I still keep posting away...

Marcello, did you get the CD I sent you? :-)

nathalie barefoot in the head (stevie nixed), Sunday, 13 March 2005 13:21 (twenty years ago)

Not yet. When did you send it?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 14 March 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

I think that I presume a lot of closeness with Britilxors that I don't actually have because (1) have lived in London I know many of the places they talk about (2) When I was working on the East Coast at 5AM last spring I intersected with them a lot more than I do now in California and (3) I secretly consider myself British.

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Monday, 14 March 2005 07:46 (twenty years ago)

1)I have lived in London & I know many of the places they talk about / frequent

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Monday, 14 March 2005 07:50 (twenty years ago)

nathalie barefoot in the head (stevie nixed), Monday, 14 March 2005 08:36 (twenty years ago)

For gawd's sake Nath STOP APOLOGISING!! ;-) It's the "managers" of our lovely South London postal service who should be apologising to me for their luxury one-delivery-per-week system...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 14 March 2005 08:53 (twenty years ago)

i really really miss talking to dee. she was awesome and made me feel better

she's always in the This Is The Thread Where I Say threads

Sven Bastard (blueski), Monday, 14 March 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

There should be a series of threads where only 3 people could participate, and those 3 people would be posters that don't usually engage with one another. It'd be like Dee, Roxymuzak, and Mark Sinker: GO.
Ned, Mark Grout, Ken, Dadaismus and myself would be unable to resist posting even on these

-- Sven Bastard (stevem7...) (webmail), March 9th, 2005 1:04 AM. (link)

I would like to point out that I have not posted to this thread.

Nathalie although we haven't interacted a huge amount directly I've always thought of you as a bit of an ILX lynchpin. Actually I've always mentally grouped you with Nicole W, which obv is a huge compliment as I luv Nicole.

Aw

I should engage more

I think I'll move to Australia, they all seem quite engaging.

Or maybe I should move them all to Ormskirk, and get them jobs on Hollyoaks.

Yeah, that'd be nice.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 14 March 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

The problem with ILM is that people like Mars Volta too much and are so sensitive about it. Boo hoo, Mars Volta is nothing like Yes! Sob. I will go cry into my gatefold now.

And my other problem is that I just don't know how to talk to people anymore.

Sara Sherr, Wednesday, 16 March 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

i really really miss talking to dee. she was awesome and made me feel better

Awww. I miss chatting with you too, hon. Hugs.

Ha ha ha ha. Thanks for reminding me about my not keeping up with my TITTWIS responsibilities lately! Really, though. I needneedneed to start keeping up with that thread series again, and I needneedneed to read the mongrels/sheepfuxors thread too, and, well, yeah. Needneedneed!

Anyway, I should engage with a whole bunch of people I don't normally engage with on this thing, this is true. Which means I'm going to be doing a heck of a lot of engaging here on this thing.

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 07:05 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'm bad about replying too (and about keeping up with threads). Though given that most emails to me are about the insufficient size of my dick, or about how to increase the volume I ejaculate, I'm generally at a loss as to how to respond.

Frank Kogan (Frank Kogan), Thursday, 17 March 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

Nathalie, I remember about a year ago on ILM begging you to return to a thread, but you'd evidently left the building by then. I don't remember what the thread was.
