Drinking your pee C/D?

Apparently morning pee has melatonin in it which helps regulate your circadian rythymns in some way.

Pee drinkers swear it has health benefits but isn't it just waste?

My morning pee smells like chicken noodle soup - I won't be drinking it.

Cases for and against please.

ok just the thought of drinking wee makes me feel pretty (very) queasy. that's my case against it.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:31 (twenty years ago)

Madonna does it.
I don't.

I like to think I'm both openminded and pragmatic, so part of me is uncomfortable with the fact that the idea of drinking pee repels me so. But really, don't you have to draw the line somewhere, against some things that do seem so patently unnatural? I mean, what is feces WEREN'T so full of bacteria, but instead was rich in vitamins and minerals? Would people be sitting down with knife and fork in front of their own shit? (the answer is cleary yes)

i don't think that urine would be full of bacteria would it? it's the smell that makes me queasy.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:37 (twenty years ago)

Supposedly urine is completely sterilzed in the kidneys. BUT STILL!

Aaron A., Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:39 (twenty years ago)

i was thinking that some minerals or whatever would be quite concentrated. like urea or ammonia or whatever it is that creates the smell. is it healthy to ingest that?

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

i don't find it that weird as it's self-produced fluids.that said, i don't think i'll ever have a glass of wee. :-)

When I was about 4 or 5, one of my friends and I convinced my little sister to drink some of my friend's pee (we put it in a yellow glass and told her it was lemonade). She survived. We very nearly didn't, after our parents found out.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:47 (twenty years ago)

I haven't done it but if I was convinced of the health benefits, I don't think it would bother me terribly.

kate/thank you friendly cloud (papa november), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:47 (twenty years ago)

When Waterworld happens, we will all drink the pee.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:49 (twenty years ago)

but people, what about the smell! the wee smell!!!

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:49 (twenty years ago)

Urea is an important constituent of the white plastic that light switches and other electrical fittings are usually made of.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:49 (twenty years ago)

well let the electrical fittings drink wee then. i'm steering clear.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

My pee rarely has much of a smell, but I think thats because of the copious amount of water I drink.

kate/thank you friendly cloud (papa november), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:51 (twenty years ago)

ok well to be perfectly honest mine doesn't either, i drink loads of water too. it's really the smell of men's urinals that is coming to mind.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

This was on that Celeb Detox thing the other week - everyone did it apart from that Lisa I'anson burd. Whats her face from Rough Guide (the tall one with the black bobbed hair and shades)she asked her 'conventional' GP about it and he/she said it wasn't a risk and could possibly have benefits....

smee (smee), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:53 (twenty years ago)

Yep, thats fucking disgusting that smell.

However, I don't think I'll be licking the urinals in any men's public toilets any time soon :)

xpost

haha ew!

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:54 (twenty years ago)

Somebody is gonna mention those urinal cake things now, aren't they? Wasn't there a thread?

smee (smee), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:57 (twenty years ago)

I've gotta believe that any health benefits from chugging piss can be found in other, non-yellow discharge sources.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

Urinal Deodorant Cakes

I'm sure there was another one though...

smee (smee), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

Maybe Hari will do this, and take pics.

Have we ever had this conversation before?

I say this because, I was just reading all the posts since my last message, and I'm *sure* I've read them all before somewhere. I'm sure I read exactly the same thing maybe a week or two ago.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

Deja poo Caitlin?

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 12:53 (twenty years ago)

That is not only bad it's wrong - it'd have to be Deja Wee - innit?

smee (smee), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

Inna dancehall style too.

BARMS, Wednesday, 9 March 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

The most interesting use of pee I've heard of lately was in the Baroque Cycle: boiling it down and making phosphorus bombs.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

I was going to try in the interests of science, but I had asparagus for lunch and couldn't face it.

N.B. I wasn't actually going to try it in the interests of science. Though the part about the asparagus is true.

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

Making phosphorus bombs sounds more fun than drinking it, at least
