i think i like...el hadji diouf

hes sort of admirable, no?

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

i feel almost tentative saying such a thing!

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

I loathe him, mainly because of his spitting

Vicky (Vicky), Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

his spelling is atrocious

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Like the rest of the Bolton team, he's just in Ivan's shadow.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Good old Nadge Chuff. I think I preferred him when he was a bit rub, at Liverpool.

I don't really see what there is to admire.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

me neither. he always looks so angry. i don't like.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:36 (twenty years ago)

Oh there's another one, Papa Didi Deop...?

Oh, now that looks made up.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

This guys a bad apple, I say he learns to play ball or he gets a swift kick in the ass!

T mer, Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

no, ive decided, i think hes pretty cool

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

My brother met this guy and asked him for his autograph. Diouf said yes but then tried to trick my brother into coming back to his hotel room and licking his anus. I'm ashamed to say that he was succesful.

Kirp Blog, Thursday, 10 March 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

the SPITTING thread

no spitting thread would be complete without a mention for the spitting footballer el hadj diouf. why is it that his spitting is greeted with greater revulsion than more physical acts of violence? why does spitting have a reputation as being cowardly?

Have you ever spat on someone?

SPITTING!

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 10 March 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

Spitting is less hygenic than clobbering someone, as long as you've washed your hands.

Which El Hadji hasn't.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 10 March 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

spitting on someone is worse than verbal abuse (racist or not) too imo

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 10 March 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

i dont mind it

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 10 March 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

i mean, its kind of funny

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 10 March 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

i think YOU'RE funny

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 10 March 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

apparently Eto'O spat as well after being allegedlt verbally abused in a racist style. it is a curious trend. i suppose it is 'better' than the kung-fu kick (tho not quite as imaginative).

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 10 March 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'll never forgive the cunt for that, no matter how clever or magnanimous a manager he is.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 10 March 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

Voller should've been punched for such a piss-poor Mick Jagger impersonation. Andreas Moller did a much better one upon scoring the winning penalty against England in the Euro 96 semi-final.

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 10 March 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

He's got great work ethic, but he still deserves a good cockpunching.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

Spitting is not worse than racist abuse.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

depends how you look at it. actions > words philosophy, and yes i am well aware of the gravitas and baggage surrounding racist abuse, but the Big Ron style derogatory approach based on ignorance rather than actual hatred doesn't really amount to anything worse than what Ken said to ES journo the other week i don't think (yes it is still stupid but let's stop being hysterical about it please).

Sven Bastard (blueski), Thursday, 10 March 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

racist abuse can involve spitting, too.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

Diouf has managed to get himself sent off after 8 minutes against Arsenal with his team already a goal down. This doesn't seem like admirable behaviour to me.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 12 March 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

My colleague tells me that Diouf has said that he doesn't enjoy playing football and only do so to avoid working for a living.

Adam Faithless (Adam Faithless), Saturday, 12 March 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

haha classic

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 12 March 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

that may explain why he is not all that

Sven Bastard (blueski), Saturday, 12 March 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

diouf is good for the english game

charltonlido (gareth), Saturday, 12 March 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

To make everyone else look better? He's a lazy, thuggish, moronic, selfish man who isn't even that good a player. In what way is that good?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 12 March 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

Is that pronounced 'die off'?

Aimless (Aimless), Saturday, 12 March 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

I like him so much more after this afternoon.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 12 March 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

Remy (null) (x Jeremy), Saturday, 12 March 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

do you think he drops it like its hot?

charlton lido (gareth), Monday, 21 March 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Dioufus is so last week. Its all about Thimothee Atouba now.

I love it when players I dislike commit unnecessary and painful fouls on players I like even less.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 March 2005 10:25 (twenty years ago)

Diouf seems like a deeply unpleasant man. There was a story in the Observer last week about him using disabled parking bays because they're free.

If true, what a cunt. If not, he's still a petulent little prick.

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 21 March 2005 10:38 (twenty years ago)

There was a story in the Observer last week about him using disabled parking bays because they're free.

It would be pretty funny if someone broke both his legs, though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 21 March 2005 10:39 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
will bolton be able to keep him? or will the price be too high? he wants to stay, apparently.

he's a top guvnor, no mistake

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

tangentially, kevin davies, also a very good season, but with almost no fanfare at all? really done well again, must be one of the premierships least acknowledged players

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

not true, he regularly wins widest arse in the premiership awards.

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

Football365 sez:

Most Improved Player: El-Hadji Diouf
He may be an absolute rotter of a man, but he has proved to be an inspirational acquisition in footballing terms for Sam Allardyce, who many thought had lost his mind when he brought in the gobber. He's scored goals, worked hard and gone a long way to reminding us why he was once thought to be worth a hefty £10m. But can Sam afford to bring him back next season?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 19 May 2005 10:53 (twenty years ago)

hmm

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

She said the reasons are that he is a French-speaker and so could not defend himself and, if he is convicted, magistrates would have to consider making a football banning order which could put him out of work.

She said they could not take money into account when making the decision.

If only she'd explained WHY they could not take money into account, or indeed from his account.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

This is unconscionable.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

From guardian website:

"True story. A friend of the Mill was swanking it up on a sunny afternoon last summer in a beer garden in south-west London. In swaggered El-Hadji Diouf with the de rigeur posse of Mr T wannabes. After a few minutes, appalled that punters had neither swooned nor bowed but had merely continued their conversations as before, the Senegalese genius clicked his fingers ostentatiously. That was the signal for one of his lackeys to produce a ball from a bag and toss it to his master, who proceeded to perform keepy-uppies as his flunkies clapped and whooped. Little El-Hadji, it seems, suffers from Attention Seeking Disorder"

Fantastic

The Emancipation of Baaderonixx (KERERU 4 LIFE!) (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

Just out of interest how many players do you think there are in the Premiership now who don't speak English 'well enough' to be able to defend themselves (not that any footballer would surely)?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

Wayne Rooney?
