Hiya.

I'm off to a wedding in Boston, as (not very) detailed in attention Bostonians! and I'll be visiting New York on the way back. I've got the whole week off, so I haven't yet figured out when to switch between them. So then to business:

Anything happening that weekend 28th/29th?

Anyone want to come out during the week, alternatively?

Anything happening on, say, the Tuesday or Wednesday before (24/25)that I should consider being there for?

Er, anyone got a couch I can sleep on for a few days?

And that's that.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 5 May 2005 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Mr Farrell, I don't suppose you will still be there on the 1st of June?

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I can confirm I will not :(

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Bollocks.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 5 May 2005 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd offer but some frenz in a band from austin will be in town that weekend, and i think they're crashing here. but i'm up for fappage, tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 5 May 2005 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I should de-emphasise the crashing section, I am a man of independant means, with friends of my own etc.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 5 May 2005 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Andrew! It will be a pleasure to welcome you to the fair city of New York. I'm not sure if the Guinness here will measure up to Dublin standards though. If you need crash space for the weekend, I may be able to offer a couch in Hoboken. Let me know.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 5 May 2005 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

memorial day weekend? im sure theres going to be a lot going on!

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 5 May 2005 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi Andrew! I'm in VA now but have fun:)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 5 May 2005 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i won't be around. :-(

tonight is what it means to be young (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 5 May 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Bloody hell, Virginia is the new New York :(

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 6 May 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

So, yes! I will be in from Wednesday 25th to Sunday 29th. I'm considering going to Free Movies all day in NYC! on the Saturday, because I love all the words in that sentence. Other than that, my schedule's open. Would people rather go out for a FAP on a schoolnight, if the weekend is going to be filled with divisive amounts of organised fun?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 19 May 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, what's the weather like in the colonies these days?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 19 May 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

Jon Williams will be here from the 24th-27th, I believe. There's a sold out Boredoms show and two Lightning Bolt shows. There is also the film festival.

There should be drinking.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 19 May 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

Okay then, if there was Drinking on the Thursday, who could make it, and where should it be?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

I am safely housed in the Hostel on 891 Amsterdamn Street. I bought a lock for the lockers as advised, checked it a couple of times, then selected the stuff I needed from my bags, threw them in the locker and locked it. Then I tried unlocking it. After about 15 minutes, it occurred to me that 1) maybe the guy from Melbourne who had been there might have bought the same kind of lock and left it lying around and 2) maybe I was stupid enough to put my lock into my bag, and lock it away using another lock entirely.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 26 May 2005 00:30 (twenty years ago)

Rah for the Andrew! I am sad to miss you (being out here and all) but hopefully I might see yer in July. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 May 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

argh im really busy this week. though thursday nite, rory from trash is dj'ing at tribeca grand.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 26 May 2005 02:14 (twenty years ago)

i could drink on thursday, tomorrow that is. i only work 'til like 8 or something.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 May 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

damn, i work until 11.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:05 (twenty years ago)

Jaysus. What say the noize birds?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:07 (twenty years ago)

i think jon and ian will prolly be up for something! i can meet anywhere after i get off work. i don't have to work until like 7 pm friday so i can get drunkles.b

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:08 (twenty years ago)

I would be up for some drinking at some point. Thursday would work, though it's a school night, so Friday would be better.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:35 (twenty years ago)

friday night i gotta work so dat's out for me,homiez

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 May 2005 04:36 (twenty years ago)

To summarize then: a possible venue is Rory Phillips at Tribeca Grand (that's in the hotel, yeah?) tonight. When's he start/end? Another possible venue is of course some bar somewhere (also he's playing Lit tomorrow for Aktion's 3rd birthday and Motherfucker on Sunday).

Nate can be there, but can't stay late because he has a proper job. How does your proper job affect how late you can stay out, Phil? And hstencil can only get there late.

This is not actually the worst plan I've ever heard.

I look like this:

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 26 May 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

im not sure, i might have totally made up the thing at tribeca tonite. but i'll probably be at lit on friday - late though because i have to go to a bday party at a scary bottle service club first. and at motherfucker on sunday.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Hey! Are you meeting up for a drink tonight, then? I might be away this weekend but tonight is good. Sorry I just noticed this thread. :(

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 26 May 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

I'll be stopping by a friend's reception around 8, but after that could be up for a drink if people are going.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 26 May 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

Okay, someone pick a venue for tonight or we'll go to HiFi (if that's the place I'm thinking of, with the 100000000 song digital jukebox, and a note on Fake Plastic Trees that says 'overplayed').

I have no actual attraction to it, I just know where it is.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 26 May 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I'd be down with that... we can at least meet up there and move on somewhere else in the neighborhood. Avenue A b/w 10th and 11th. What time, Andrew?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 26 May 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

(Oh and advance warning that I probably won't last too late)

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 26 May 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

I'm going for some food now. Say 9?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 26 May 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

(read: I am starting the process of negociations regarding where to eat)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 26 May 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

9 sounds good.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 26 May 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

9 it is. I prolly won't last past a couple drinks, but it'll be nice to say hello!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 26 May 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

Ugh, I'm sorry Andrew... I'm not up for going out tonight. Maybe Friday night?

Aaron W (Aaron W), Friday, 27 May 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

Ok, that's good, we (Nate and Me) thought we missed you!

Me and Nate appeared half an hour late, Phil ended up going to the Tribeca Grand after all, and I rang Hstencil after 11 to tell him not to bother coming along, but he was already home anyway.

I suck at the game of New York :(

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 27 May 2005 05:06 (twenty years ago)

Hi Andrew!

I might go to Tonic tonight, but I am not sure I wanna pay $15

DMG 14th Anniversary Show: Tisziji Munoz' Fyr of No-Music Double Trio plus John Zorn's Cobra
$15
Tisziji Munoz' Fyr of No-Music Double Trio: With Ra-Kalam Bob Moses (drums), Sadhu-Bhav Tony Falco (drums), Don Pate(bass) & Justin Purtill (bass).
John Zorn's Cobra: Zorn's infamous game piece.

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

If you go to see Tsiziji, you might get to see Paul Shaffer - he sometimes sits in on keyboards.

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Friday, 27 May 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

I like the way the description keeps adding more information while always raising more questions than it answers.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 27 May 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

So does anyone want to go out to this show (I'll watch anything, up to a point), and does anyone want to go drikning before/after/during?

Myself and a friend are walking down Manhattan, and just reached the hostel at 103rd Street. So it'll be a couple of hours before I can check back in.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 27 May 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

It sounds like you're making pretty good time. I guess that's about the halfway point.

I'd be up for going to the show. Tzisiji is a pretty great guitarist, and I haven't seen a Cobra performance in several years. Where would you want to meet up for drinks beforehand?

o. nate (onate), Friday, 27 May 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

Nate, is you name just "Nate" or does the O stand for anything?

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Friday, 27 May 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

The "O" is silent. Actually, I just put that on there at one time in order to distinguish from Nate Detritus.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 27 May 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

http://www.japansociety.org/events/current.cfm

I was thinking about going to this around dinner time...

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Friday, 27 May 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't mind seeing the Superflat show. I've been meaning to go check it out. We could meet up there and then head down to Tonic.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 27 May 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Hang on I'm coordinating plans with japanophile retail-slave friends.

By all means go, but I may have to join you later. I'll be wearing a plain green tshirt and carrying a bright yellow manbag.

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Friday, 27 May 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

Alright, I'll wait and see what Andrew thinks. But if I go, I'll look for you.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 27 May 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

okay, I'm leaning towards going to the Tonic show! Anyone know how pricey the drinks are there? I know a wicked cheap dive bar in the area...

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Friday, 27 May 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

I think beers are 5 at Tonic, IIRC.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 27 May 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

ps- Andrew could you send your cell phone #?

o. nate (onate), Friday, 27 May 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

think i am going to pass due to budget guys :/

I will go SUNDAY though.

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Friday, 27 May 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Sunday should be awesome. I'm going to try to go to that as well. I wonder what happened to Andrew... I guess he's still walking down Manhattan.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 27 May 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

sorry i couldn't meet you, andrew. i ran into o. nate on the train tho!

sunday i realized that my frenz from austin are playing at the knitting factory old office, but i could prolly meet up afterwards.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 27 May 2005 21:54 (twenty years ago)

I got down to Battery Park by 5.30, but it took me until now to get back on the 1 :(

I'll send you my mobile number, Nate, but it's from the foreign, so you may not be able to ring it (or message it, if your phone does that).

The free guide I have (L Magazine) says DMG show 8pm Tonic, but also lists under clubs The Bunker, 9pm Tonic. Confusion..

But I'll be there anyway.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 27 May 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

The Bunker is downstairs I think. The other show is upstairs. Since JW bailed, I was having second thoughts on the plan. Some friends are going out later here in Hoboken, so I was thinking maybe of joining them, what would you think about that instead? OTOH, maybe we could go to the show first and meet them afterwards, if it doesn't go too late.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 27 May 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

Or maybe we could grab a bite to eat first, then head out later for drinks here. I'm getting kind of hungry.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 27 May 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

hmm...

o. nate (onate), Friday, 27 May 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

sorry, i have to stay in the rest of the weekend. im super super busy, for once. but tonite is a good party at Lit with freeblood (!!! sideproject) and glass candy playing, and a bunch of good djs. saturday glass candy is playing again at tribeca grand. also dan selzer's all disco party at capones in williamsburg. sunday is motherfucker

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 28 May 2005 01:35 (twenty years ago)

if you want to get a bite to eat in w'burg sometime the weekend that would be cool. i have to get a lot of work done so that means no booze and no drugs, which means no going out to party :(

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 28 May 2005 01:36 (twenty years ago)

I would like to go to the saturday dan s party

i am so drunk

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Saturday, 28 May 2005 08:14 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha sorry for the stone face on your suggestions Nate, I was already busy wasting time + quarters on the PS2 Tekken 5 we have in the hostel. But things worked out great, with added Tom + Ally!

What time does the Capones party start, and would you like to go out for a meal before then, Phil?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Saturday, 28 May 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I've moved my stuff to Nate's in Hoboken, and I don't want to be coming back here at like 3am AND I have to get up tomorrow fairly early to get to La Guardia AND I'm going into work an hour and a half after my plane gets in on Monday, so maybe ~10 hours sleep tonight is a good idea, so yeah basically I don't think I'll be at the party. But I totally want to meet Phil again! And Jon too(particularly since I'm imagining that he brings a deck of flash cards, which he uses to illustrate salient points). So if there's eating in W'burgh this evening, I'm down.

What's the quickest way to get to La Guardia from town, and how quick is it?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Saturday, 28 May 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Mori pulled out of the sunday tonic show

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Saturday, 28 May 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

Ikue Mori? I didn't even know she was going to play. As long as Seiichi and the Rovo violinist are there, it should be worth seeing. I wonder who played in the Cobra last night at Tonic. I only saw part of Tisziji's set, since we bailed to go meet up with Tom & Ally, but I saw Zeena Parkins there, and I was wondering if anyone from Sunday's show might be stopping by. Oh well. Probably better not to know what I missed.

o. nate (onate), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

There is free pizza at Capones, although people don't start dancing until midnight or so. Capones is awesome and I highly recommend waiting around until dan s. starts djing.

h0t h0t h0rsey (Carey), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

we hjave a ton of beer and might drop by

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Sunday, 29 May 2005 00:04 (twenty years ago)

some dude just told me you used to be in his kol clan or something.

h0t h0t h0rsey (Carey), Sunday, 29 May 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

yea
