Chicago smells like chocolate again today.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

Also, apple slices with peanut butter on them are awesome.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

So jaymc was just talking about going into the studio. And I wanted to say that we (the FF) wrote a new song yesterday in practice in like 20 minutes. It was awesome. I had some lyrics, Sarah came up with a bass line, and it all just fell together. Which is cool because the last new song we wrote took like a month to actually finish. But when we saw Crap Engine on Friday (who are really really good, despite the awful band name), they played one of their power-pop songs, like 3 minutes long, and then their bass player said "That song took us 7 months to write"). So I guess we're generally lucky. This doesn't have much to do with Chicago, but I'm just excited about our new song. Carry on.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

i didn't even bother to slice the apple. i just smeared peanut butter on the spots i wanted to bite from. then i gave up & ate some pb off the butter knife.
*now* i'm satiated.

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

by the way, does anyone have any updated info on the lake path? is it still da-da-da . . . horrid?!

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

hahahahaha. a month! you guys. so cute.

last night, we had an argument about one of my keyboard parts. matt said "what about that thing you do? don't you go down on that line?" i said, "i stopped doing that a long time ago cuz i thought it was clashing with piano/violin/whatever." he said, "oh. i miss it." i said, "well, you can't miss it too much since you haven't noticed that i haven't been playing it for the last TWO YEARS!"

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

actually, i think the part itself was written THREE years ago.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

awww. matt.

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

so this show tonight is late & i'm a tired monkey right now & it's only 4:45 . . . so do i go home to work out or to nap?

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

and thus begins the moment when kelsey follows nick's lead & posts to herself.

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

if i work out, i might wake up. then again, it could make me more tired.
if i work out tonight, i won't have to do it in the morning.
naps are really, really great though.

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

So Jeff, I don't know if you're still out there, but there's a 70% chance of rain tonight, supposed to be strong storms, I'm thinking there probably isn't going to be a game...

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

I post to myself?

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

sometimes you carry a thread on your own for a few.

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

Disco nap.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

what's a disco nap?

kelsey (kelstarry), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

That nap you take so you can stay out later at the disco.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

Um... I guess. I dunno. I think it's a Beastie Boys lyric. Eat a Scooby snack, take a disco nap.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

So what does everyone else think? Is there going to be a baseball game tonight? I have to decide in the next 12 minutes whether I'm going up to Wrigleyville to meet Jeff or if I'm going home to stay dry.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

I say go home and get WET.

http://www.duke.edu/~jfb10/roadtrip/drinking%20me%20and%20codes.JPG

slightly more subdued (kenan), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

Well I just checked the weather again and it's supposed to storm from 7 until midnight, so I'm going to go home. Sorry if I'm ditching you, Jeff. I just left a message on yr cell.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 9 May 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Yep, i got the message. I sent you an email, i'm going to go to the park anyway at 7, and see how much if any of the game is played. It's cool if you don't want to brave the rain, I can dump the ticket on the street for face value.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Monday, 9 May 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

Oh, cool...I love stormy nights. One thing I miss about the 'burbs are the tornado warnings. Don't get any near the lake. :(

it's mashed potato time! (dymaxia), Monday, 9 May 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

I cannot imagine missing tornado warnings. You're one of those adrenaline types, aren't you?

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 05:07 (twenty years ago)

I tornado blew down my parents house in 1999, with us in it. It was... interesting. I wouldn't want to go through it again.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 05:46 (twenty years ago)

I go home to Chicago in one week, and I'm totally done with school! Hurrah!

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 06:26 (twenty years ago)

(Plz give me a job)

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 06:27 (twenty years ago)

Mornin', cow pokes.

I'm feeling good today. What I need is MORE COFFEE.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

I bought a big-ass coffee to supplement the free stuff we have at work. Worked 9 - 6 yesterday, came home and ate tilapia with Maddie, then went back to work from 7-9 and was up until 1:00. COFFEE, MOTHERFUCKERS, it's the only way I can get through this gig.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Now I feel like a dumbass for not going to the game last night. Dammit.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

I couldn't sleep the night before last because I had a HUGE Mr. Pibb at Chip0tle (I usually try to stay away from soda, especially late in the day; Also, I usually try to stay away from Chip0tle in general).

Last night I was so proud of myself because I grilled corn on the cob and sweet potato fries. True, Nick had to help me towards the end, and I didn't cook the potatoes long enough beforehand so they ended up being a little too hard in parts, but yay for grilling!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

MMMMMM CORN ON COB

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

I left after the 5 inning. It was sort of fun to sit in the rain though, I bought a poncho! The Books was good too.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

I buy my corn on the cob off a pick-up truck in the Menards and/or Pizza Hut parking lot. Ah, Indiana in the summertime! They are building a Chip0tle here, right next to La Bamba's and up the road from El Rodeo and around the corner from the great all-day breakfast Mexican place. Why corporate America, why?
Last night I watched 24 and now I can't wait until next week to see how they dismantle a flying nuclear weapon.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

MMMMM MEXICAN BREAKFAST

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

MOST REPETITIVE SHOW EVER

No, that would be "Super Milk Chan." But 24 is close.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, Millions of Americans lives are at stake. Eat up!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

Ohmygod MR PIBB. There is not nearly enough of that stuff around New York. Me + Gigios in Evanston used to = Mr Pibb extravaganza.

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

It's not Mr. Pibb anymore, It's Pibb Xtra to appeal to a younger, "hipper" demographic. They sent out booklets to restaurants explaining the name change.

IcouldnotmakethisupifItried (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

But but how can there be Pibb Xtra if there is no just Pibb? Isn't that like calling Dominos for extra cheese and having them just send you a box of cheese? Does it taste the same, or does it now taste Xtreme and Xtraordinary? Is everything going to be okay? Why can they not just have regular Mr Pibb and then Mr Pibb Xtra, which would be regular Mr Pibb with extra Xanax?

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

(What kind of name is Pibb, anyway?)

nabisco (nabisco), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

You're just full of questions, aren't you?

I think I might need to have a Dr. Pepper, or perhaps a Mr. Pibb, at lunch today.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

Mmm.... Dr. Pepper

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

Pibb Xtra is Pibb with lemon. My favorite Pibb-related experiences are getting Steak n Shake to put vanilla in with it. Speaking of which, y'all should try Vanilla Dr. Pepper.

()ops (()()ps), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

I am now drinking a Dr. Pepper. I'm also eating my lunch, I was too hungry to wait until "lunch time."

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Thanks.

I'm addicted to looking at the apartment ads on craigslist now. But the problem is that they make me want to upgrade, not save money. I keep thinking, "Wow! Look what I could have for only 150% of what I'm paying now!"

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

You cannot uninstall Spyware by uninstalling programs from the system menu. That's why it's spyware. You may have uninstalled the suspect programs, but you didn't get rid of all the other little evil shit they put on your computer. They hide that stuff pretty good.

AdAware will scan your drive pretty quickly. You'll be amazed what it finds. I always am.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

And step two is to stop using Internet Explorer immediately. It causes nothing but pain.

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

(I'm sorry if you know all this already. I'm always afraid of sounding pedantic. But this stuff can get serious -- first sex ads, then slowed performance, then you're unknowingly sending viruses to other people, and finally computer death. That's the Windows Way. Gotta nip it in the bud.)

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

I stopped using Firefox ages ago when it mysteriously stopped working on my computer. I've gotta get a new version and get back on that shit.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, you really do. Explorer has security holes in its security holes.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

I'm so glad I use a Mac with Firefox. Except at work, because this computer is soooo old.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

can one overdose on alacer emer'gen-c? i've had five packets today

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

too much vitamin c gives you the runs!

teeny (teeny), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

Lovely.

I'm getting a little frustrated. I was running adaware and it had already scanned OVER 450,000 objects with over 200 suspect files and then it timed out or something. It froze. I checked the systems page and it said it was no longer responding.

In better news, the owner left for the rest of the day and a coworker told me I can sneak out at my own risk. I think I'll stick around for a while longer though because I get paid to do basically nothing as it is.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

I finally did it! Someone cue up the theme from Chariots of Fire!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

I'm stopping by this art opening (12) tonight. Is anything else going on?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

What time are you going there, Sarah?

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

hi, yeah it's wear what you want, except for nick, he has to wear a tie. And tails. We'll make room to dance. I've burned like 15 cds.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Friday, 17 June 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, we haven't decided when we're going to the art show. Give us a call if you want to come with or meet up with us there.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 17 June 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

ATTN Jordan (and Matt, though I don't think he reads this thread) -- my band will be playing your fair city on July 11. I'd love if you came, but since I've never gotten off my ass to see you the six billion times you've come to Chicago, I understand if you don't want to.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 June 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

i was just skimming things here but i have to say that the crustless pieces are the BEST ones!!! I usually wait for everyone to eat the outer, crust-havin' pieces so I can get the heavenly, all-pizza, no-crappy-hard-crusted pieces.

n/a (Nick A.), Sunday, 19 June 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

My boy turns 21 this weekend. Where should I take him? Is that place Divine in Wicker Park any good? We walked by there and they were playing some hot music. "Dress code strictly enforced," which I'm down with.

deej.., Sunday, 19 June 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

i've never been to divine, but i generally tend to avoid places where the dress code is strictly enforced!!

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 19 June 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

I like dressing up, I just wish I knew what the dress code was! They are impossible to find any info about online.

deej.., Sunday, 19 June 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Some very beautiful people seem to go there, from my recollection.

Any other places you'd recommend?

deej.., Sunday, 19 June 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

Where are you playing, John? I'll be back from tour by then and I don't think I have anything going on.

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 19 June 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

High Noon.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 June 2005 03:59 (twenty years ago)

deej, who's this "boy" of yours?

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 June 2005 04:01 (twenty years ago)

hah its a friend of mine from high school, grade younger than me. Good people. Why do you ask?

deej.., Monday, 20 June 2005 07:26 (twenty years ago)

the phrasing seemed ambiguous.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

Jeff, how is married life? Do you have a honeymoon planned? I can't remember.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 20 June 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

Also, everyone, we should do something this Friday night because, um, I said so. So, what do you wanna do?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

KA-RA-O-KE!

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 20 June 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

Ok, so, nick and I are in. That's 2. Who else?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Jaymc, the High Noon is a pretty cool club,I will try to be there.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

YES I AM IN FOR FRIDAY!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

We could go to Hidden Cove for karaoke. Unless it's too far out of the way for you guys. It's like 5300 N. Lincoln.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 June 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

I will travel any distance for karaoke.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 20 June 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Good. It's a fun little place. I sang Steely Dan's "Do It Again" there once, about a year and a half ago.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

Do they have "Cherry Pie" by Warrant?

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if they have any Heavy D. Prolly not.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

CHICAGO KARAOKE FAP: Friday, 6/24

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 20 June 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

I went to Chinatown last night on the recommendation of the Slow Food Guide. Lao Tse Chuan, I believe it was called. "Best Chinese food in the city!" everyone said. It was garbage. No, really. I don't know if it's a cultural thing or what, but every animal part we were served had bone in it in surprising places, as if the animal had not been attended to with any care at all, just cleavered into bits. The rabbit was totally inedible for this reason. The duck was just as bad, burned on one side, and dry. How you get duck to be dry is a total freakin' mystery. The "Three Happiness" or whatever was exactly like fried shrimp from Red Lobster, only not as good. Crap, crap, crap. If this is the best in Chicago, I guess I just won't be eating any more Chinese food in Chicago.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Monday, 20 June 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

Has anyone, I'm guessing not Kenan, had good chinese takeout in Chicago? I mean, the kind that's so good you can eat it in the little box it comes in and not feel gross? I'm looking for great vegetable fried rice in particular. There was this chinese place across the street from my old job (in jefferson park) that everyone ordered from all the time but the veggie fried rice had shrimp in it! Not veggie!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 20 June 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, try Blue Willow on Fullerton just west of Western. They used to be at the corner of Damen & Chicago but moved in 2001 or 02. That was our most reliable Chinese we found the entire time we lived around Wicker Park.

Baked Bean Teeth (Baked Bean Teeth), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 03:07 (twenty years ago)

Shrimp don't have any feelings.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

Also, while they're pure cholesterol, they're also fat-free, which means that the cholesterol can't be absorbed the way fatty cholesterol can. Eating a bunch of shrimp won't raise you blood cholesterol one bit. So pull up a chair and have at 'em.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 03:13 (twenty years ago)
