Ned in London redux -- Heathrow transportation question! Plus FAPs/shows/parties/whatever July 28th through 30th

And finally the last bit. So here's what's up -- I fly into Gatwick on the 28th, a Thursday. I fly out of Heathrow on Saturday morning the 30th...but really, really early. When I got my tickets it was through one of those blind sale things that gives you a cheaper seat but not full control over the time of the flight, and that means I'm leaving at the somewhat ungodly hour of 5:30 on Saturday morning. Oh dear.

Pretty much I was up for get-togethers on both Thursday and Friday night, but what I'd like to do is figure out a way to stay awake on Friday night via FAP-like merriment (or whatever suggests itself...bowling perhaps, Mr. Chu? ;-) ) into the wee hours, then get over to Heathrow in time to check in, get enough coffee to stay awake until I'm on the plane and then sleep away semi-soundly during the flight. Question is, what's the best way to get to Heathrow from London that late at night, assuming the Piccadilly line does not run all evening? I figure I need to be at the airport by 3 am or so.

All thoughts welcome! Party thoughts welcome! I will have tales of things by that point re: Europe fun I hope!

For trains and buses running through the night.

Sorry the train doesn't go through the night, looks like its the buys only, second link.

This might not work at all but if the Airport Bowl in Harlington (pretty close to Heathrow) is still 24 hours, we could actually do a late-nighter there (if Ken's up for driving maybe). Might be a little ambitious and unfeasible ultimately but worth consideration.

OK that is all lies the airbus stops at midnight as well. I must hang my head in transport shame.

The N9 runs from Aldwych to Heathrow via Trafalgar square, picadilly knightbridge and a load of other places.

Wow, that would be brilliant (if possible). Otherwise, the N9, you say? Shall keep it in mind.

I looked at the airport bowl website and it doesn't say when it closes but its £1.99 a game after 11pm.

Ed (dali), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Surely we have a plan (maybe).

four weeks pass...
Okay, reviving this a bit in advance just to nail down a couple of things -- first, transport is no worry, as Stevie will be driving me to Heathrow, so no worries there.

Thursday the 28th the legendary (if you know him) MJ Hibbett is playing a show at the 12 Bar -- though I admit I don't know where that is. Come one come all! Starry in particular wanted to attend, I recall.

Friday the 29th would still be lovely for BowlingFAP though now we can do it in London itself rather than out in Heathrow yonder. Ken C I gather knows the right place for such things. :-)

I'd also love to do a get-together dinner beforehand that night where all who can show up would be appreciated -- it would be a nice way to set the seal on the trip. All suggestions welcome.

I know this has been a tough time and again I worry that all this on my part seems frivolous, but truly, you guys *do* rule, and hanging around with y'all is as good a way as any as conveying it -- even if my own bowling skills are minimal. ;-)

Hope everyone is well.

You'll need to get back out to Wimbledon, I assume, so perhaps dinner and bowling should be in South or west London. How about dinner a Kastoori in tooting (superb Indian veg that kate took me to, one of the very bets indians I've been to, cheap too) followed by bowling at the Streatham Megabowl. You'll be able to bus/tram/train it back to wimbledon.

Sounds good! Stevie will be attending this, I gather, so I won't need to journey back on my own, but ease for return after late night revelry is always appreciated.

ping pong on Wednesday, Needlework on Thursday, BOWLING on a Friday night (29th July)

Coolness. Further info on next Thursday from MJ, those who need it:

The 12 Bar's on Denmark Street, off Charring Cross Road and about
three minutes from Tottenham Court Road tube station. Steve and Sarah
have both been a couple of times before tho, so if you're coming with
them they'll know the way!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 July 2005 07:27 (twenty years ago)

oh wow the 12 Bars.. i remmeber that place isn't it quite posh?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 21 July 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

no, it's an hole.

we call it the "12 person bar" because it is quite small (and we are funny)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 21 July 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

Much is made clear.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 22 July 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

what time is MJ btw?

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

Not sure. I should e-mail him again (I was going to show up around 7 to 8 or so). But there is this other FAP happening I gather?

Mark and anyone else -- lunch this Friday, further thoughts? I plan on scrounging the best possible locations for the cheapest copy of the Associates _Affectionate Punch_ reissue afterwards, so if we want to plan around that...
