haha chanel! we saw karl lagerfeld in rome last summer and then i bought his h&m xl tshirt

http://www.vogue.com.au/slides-images/imagefolder/slide-1680/00430f.jpg
chanel is so weird

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Sunday, 19 June 2005 07:33 (twenty years ago)

i could post chanel all day but i wont clog the thread up, look here for the whole collection, mostly killer, but also some filler!

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Sunday, 19 June 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

I think that look works quite well. It may be a bit much, expressly for the runway, but without the pattern of the base layer, I think it's perfectly wearable. (xpost)

youn, Sunday, 19 June 2005 07:39 (twenty years ago)

i always have some time for stella mccartney, the spring 05 collection was really good but this one looks a bit underwhelming on the runway, it would be a different matter on the street i think
there are some nice dresses tho
http://www.vogue.com.au/slides-images/imagefolder/slide-1667/00370f.jpg

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Sunday, 19 June 2005 07:45 (twenty years ago)

youn dont get me wrong i think it looks great! i do always find it hard to recontextualise single chanel pieces from an outfit tho - they always all seem to fit together as this big oiled CHANEL machine. theyre so singular and um chanellish

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Sunday, 19 June 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

also its hard to do the 'find something similar at the op shop' thing with chanel (unless you r marge simpson)

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Sunday, 19 June 2005 07:50 (twenty years ago)

http://www.vogue.com.au/slides-images/imagefolder/slide-1667/00110f.jpg

i love stella for making this dress because i have one similar already! (haha about as 'similar' as when they do that 'find this look on a budget' thing in cosmo)

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

The Stella McCartney dress makes the model look like a fawn. (Or maybe she just does.) Tehresa's Vuitton selection is very nice.

youn, Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

haha yeah i see what you mean. i like the dvn model she looks like a very well scrubbed 2 yr old (who is normally grubby)

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Sunday, 19 June 2005 08:27 (twenty years ago)

ok maybe someone here can answer this: what is harper's bazaar's obsession w/ karl lagerfeld? my aunt gave me a subscription to it and i swear, every month they have some big piece involving him (ex: karl answers readers' fashion questions, karl takes pictures of valentino)!

tehresa (tehresa), Sunday, 19 June 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

well im a bit obsessed w him too! i love his answers to the readers q's - he's very bitchy which he sez he learned from his mum. i guess he's someone who involves himself v heavily in fashion, he kind of embodies that frivolous bitchy exclusive REAL FASHION aspect of the biz. he's this cartoon character mascot

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Monday, 20 June 2005 08:20 (twenty years ago)

also he's just a very very hardworking prolific guy with a lot of energy to expend in many directions

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Monday, 20 June 2005 08:55 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
Sod fall fashion.

Where can I get a really good, really horsey-looking proper tweed jacket? Money no object.

Also, riding boots. Tall ones.

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 08:02 (twenty years ago)

Sod maternity fashion. Why the fuck do they put a ribbon around every frigging blouse and cardigan?!? I've seen a few nice items but really WHY THE NEED FOR RIBBONS?

nathalie sans denouement (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 08:19 (twenty years ago)

alce tea-skirt have you tried looking in actual dressage stores? im sure i saw a few when i ws in london

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

In *London*?!?! Why on earth would there be a dressage shop in London?

(Wait, then again, there are actual Sailing shops in London and there are no boats anywhere near, say, Covent Garden.)

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

nathalie i feel your pain, theres nothing worse than an all-pervasive trend that is impossibly ugly! although it obv must be much worse when we're talking abt a fashion gene pool as small as the maternity wear market - wd you consider second hand stuff? ive seen some good stuff in those mothers/childrens recycled clothes shops where you can trade stuff in.
i actually really like those maternity pants or skirts with the big expanding elasticated panel for the tummy, ive considered buying them before but then i felt paranoid that ppl would notice it ws maternity wear and think i ws knocked up

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 09:37 (twenty years ago)

haha well as far as i cd see london has every possible permutation of useless shopping available!

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

my mother found a jacket nearly exactly the same as this hermes one for $25

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 10:41 (twenty years ago)

wd you consider second hand stuff? ive seen some good stuff in those mothers/childrens recycled clothes shops where you can trade stuff in.

I haven't seen shops that sell it, nor would I really want to wear it. I know it's silly, but I don't like 2ndhand clothes.

i actually really like those maternity pants or skirts with the big expanding elasticated panel for the tummy, ive considered buying them before but then i felt paranoid that ppl would notice it ws maternity wear and think i ws knocked up

:-) Yesterday I noticed they had'em in catalogue and I just told my husband I was going to buy'em. I love'em! They seem comfy and not too obvious. I also noticed just plain sweaters so I'll opt for that. Everything BUT clothes with ribbons. *yuck*

nathalie sans denouement (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 10:43 (twenty years ago)

kate, if money's no object then you should be able to find a pair of tall leather riding-type boots without much difficulty.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

Money's no object on the jacket. The boots are somewhat less down the line.

I suspect both of them will end up getting ordered off the interweb. Hrrrmmm, I wonder if I can get such a thing on LL Bean or if it's too Brit-country/prep rather than US country/prep. My mum gets a discount on LL Bean coz she has one of their mega-platinum buy-a-small-country credit cards.

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

Also... olive tweed or navy tweed! Decisions, decisions!

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

Arrrr! Or should I get the tailored jacket:

http://www.barbour.com/data/imagery_productwomen/LadiesTailoredJacket.jpg

More buttons, plus it is longer in length and slimline! Oh no, I cannot decide!

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

hey kate sometimes j.crew has some nice tweedy jackets, well made, reasonable price.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

No, no, I stopped buying J.Crew years ago, was disappointed with their stuff.

The only problem with those Barbour jackets is that they don't really look ... tweedy enough. They certainly look horsey enough, but not really tweedy.

Ah well, supposedly they sell them at Liberty, so I shall investigate in the flesh on the next late nite shopping day.

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

i remember l.l. bean as mainly being good for long undies, monogrammed backpacks, and sleeeping bags.

xpost

you can't go wrong with joseph for good women's tailoring.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

kate, if money's no object then you should be able to find a pair of tall leather riding-type boots without much difficulty.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of boots like that for fall. And also the tall stack heel boots, which I love but I always manage to almost break my neck any time I wear something like that.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

j.crew were using subpar manufacturers a while back, they've switched to better ones and are going a bit more high-end. But it's certainly understandable if you don't want to mailorder them from the states. Here's their hacking jacket:

http://jcrew.com/images/nov299/emstyle/69998_WC3553.jpg

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

Since all I can wear to work is suits there were actually a couple of suits from J Crew's fall collection I had my eye on. But $195 for a pair of their jeans??? Hell to the no.

Leon C. (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

I can't wear big heels, just want low ones. Which is why riding boots are perfect - they have a low cut-out heel for keeping your foot in the stirrups, without build-up of height.

I love LL Bean. Except their clothes are cut ridiculously large. I have a pair of jeans I swim in.

x-post... nice jacket, but it's only got 2 buttons! No good! Ah, if they've fixed their manufacturers, I might give them another chance.

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

Oh forget it. LL Bean is all about the fleecies now. :-(

I want fitted tweed.

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

You could try a tack shop mail order catalogue. (But then you can't try stuff on)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, my mum has found every tweed jacket that LL Bean has ever made and is emailing them all to me. They're just not as nice and fitted as the Barbour ones. LL Beans look like they're made for frisbee throwing with a dog, not for hunting with a pack of them.

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Maybe you could search Oxfam/other secondhand sources for a good but slightly oversized jacket, and then have a tailor fit it to you?

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

God, you sound like my mum.

FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE, I WANT TO HAVE A NICE, EXPENSIVE SUIT WHICH FITS ME WELL AND MAKES ME FEEL ELEGANT. WHO CARES IF IT'S A LOT OF FUCKING MONEY. FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE, I HAVE A LOT OF MONEY AND WHOSE BUSINESS IS IT IF I SPEND SOME OF IT CHEERING MYSELF UP BY BUYING MYSELF A TREAT?!?!?!

Sorry, that was not aimed at you, J.Lu. I've just had an inbox full of fuss from my mum.

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

joseph joseph joseph joseph joseph joseph

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

wtf is up with those overalls upthread?! I had ones almost *exactly* like the karen walkers (except longer) in 1987, when I was 12. Oh, I loved them then, but I just don't think fashion and overalls go together. Yardwork + overalls, yes. Pregnancy + overalls, sure, makes sense, is cute in fact. Otherwise, they're kinda silly, I mean, as "fashion."

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

Kate, buy the expensive, tailored-to-you tweedy/horsey classic jacket! Maybe even buy nice tailored pants to go with it! You will have it forever and it will be worth it. Just say no to LL Bean and second-hand shopping on this one.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

Well then, if money truly is no object here, having such a garment/ensemble custom-made is definitely the way to go.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)

LL Beans look like they're made for frisbee throwing with a dog, not for hunting with a pack of them.

Surely you already knew that Americans embrace the sloppy in the name of comfort.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

Awww, sorry for shouting. I just couldn't shout at my mum last night.

(Especially since she started again with the offering her mum's trust fund to help me buy a flat, argh.)

I should just probably get one tailor made. A real total luxury that I will have for the rest of my life. I mean, I spend enough time feeling totally fat and middle aged and mumsy as it is. I wanted to have something *elegant* and middle aged and mumsy, like I could go to Edwardian house parties in or something. Anyway...
