*And Damon Dash has said of Lohan: “The truth is, when I met her, I didn't know she was as smart as she is. After we kicked it, I realized she's done a lot for her age."

ie, anal.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

Tee hee, Dan.

D4me D4sh is a self-important idiot. I was in Tribeca to meet my friends and ended up at the wrong address. Turns out it was the building he lives in. He pulls up in an SUV like he's the president. He walks with 2 bodyguards...one in front, one behind. He glances at me as if I'm interested and I roll my eyes. He goes upstairs for a sec and comes back later with his kid, again sandwiched while the kid is totally standing out in the open. If anyone gave enough of a shit to go after him, good to know that they'll probably hit the poor son instead. Asshat.

I get it: she had to lose all that juicy weight cause it was driving the African-American male population to distraction. Now that she looks like a 50-year-old woman, we can expect test scores and job productivity among black males to totally skyrocket.

from imdb: Lohan Avoids "Drama" at De Beers Protest

Teen star Lindsay Lohan strode past protestors at the opening of the first American De Beers store on Wednesday, declaring she wouldn't get involved in any of their "drama". The Herbie: Fully Loaded actress, 18, joined fellow stars Teri Hatcher and Vanessa Carlton to party at the diamond jewelers' bash on New York City's Fifth Avenue, despite the shouts of angry protestors. Representatives from advocacy group Survival International, who claim De Beers' diamond mining in Botswana has led to the evictions of Gana and Gwi bushmen, shouted "shame on you" and "cultural genocide" as celebrities arrived for the launch. Former De Beers spokesmodels Erin O'Connor and Iman reportedly stepped down from their roles after the bushmen allegations first surfaced. When asked by reporters when she thought about the bushmen controversy, Lohan replied, "I don't get involved in any drama."

*British opera sensation Charlotte Church is claiming that Usher tried to holla at her one time in a London nightclub, reports Ananova. "He tried to come on to me,” said the 19-year-old, who is currently dating Welsh Rugby star Gavin Henson. “He said, ‘Man! I love the way you dance!’ And I was like, ‘Whoa-hey there boy, you're cute! But get your ass over there, I have to go.’ Usher's cute, but I'm a faithful girl!"

Who she callin’ “boy?”

I actually think this is hilarious:

As Stevie Wonder continues tinkering away on his upcoming Motown album, “A Time to Love,” his manager Malcolm Cook recently told reporters about the singer’s attempts to fool people into thinking he can see. "One of his tricks was that he would ask me what one of the other musicians was wearing, I would describe it, then he would go and compliment them on their fine suit, shirt, tie, mentioning the colors,” Cook said. "He loved it when that person didn't know what to say and wondered if he really could see."

Lindsay Lohan Calls Obama First 'Colored President' in Interview

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Just call her Lindsay Bunker.

Lindsay Lohan used a derogatory term for African Americans most commonly used by racist character Archie Bunker in the 1970s sitcom "All In the Family."

"It's an amazing feeling. It's our first, you know, colored president," the 22-year-old actress said in response to a question from Maria Menounos on "Access Hollywood" about her reaction to Obama's win in the 2008 presidential race.

The oft-troubled starlet muttered the offensive term in the midst of an interview about her role on "Ugly Betty," gay marriage, and cancer research.

The television interview comes on the heels of a sit-dwon with "Harper's Bazaar" magazine where Lohan denied being a lesbian, but admitted to being in love with her female partner of several months, Samantha Ronson.

eman, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

Is "Colored" racist in English or American? I had no idea.

StanM, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

It's not really racist but it's very loaded.

Black Seinfeld (HI DERE), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe she's an idiot and thinks that refers to any non-white.

the night of counting the years (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

Also, is she really only 22 still? She's going to look like shit by 30.

^^that's pretty lazy writing

Manchego Bay (G00blar), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

I'm Scottish, and coloured is the kind of thing my gran might say, but even she would realise that it's outmoded, probably offensive nomenclature. It's been very un-PC for at least a few decades and I've never heard anyone my age (mid 20s) use it.

what U cry 4 (jim), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

like i know journos need to tiptoe around these terms themselves, but srsly that's how you characterize 'colored'?

Manchego Bay (G00blar), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

http://americanhistory.si.edu/Brown/history/1-segregated/images/colored-waiting-room-l.jpg

eman, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

I've heard people in my parents' generation and slightly younger use it, but then again they are fairly enmeshed in small town life and not exposed to much current thought/affairs or a wide variety of media.

I don't think it was SOOO TERRIBLE when Lohan said it, just something brainless and quickly regretted...she was kind of slurring everything and talking half under her breath anyway, not really signs of being super mentally prepared. Would not advise she pull an LJ and start defending her vocab in the press, though, although frankly I can't see her bothering.

Fred Dalton Township (Laurel), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

this happened more often that id like to think about at my school--kids saying "colored"--i think they were shooting for "people of color" and slipped up somewhere. at least thats the kind way of looking at it.

Uncle Shavedlongcock (max), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

l0u1s jagg3r used a derogatory term for female basketball players most commonly used by racist shock jock Don Imus.

Manchego Bay (G00blar), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

i guess id like to imagine that lohan meant to say "person of color" and didnt realize that its not a synonym of "colored person"

Uncle Shavedlongcock (max), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

Also, as someone who didn't "get" a lot of loaded terms until sometime in my 20s (thanks, lack of exposure!), I can almost understand the feeling that all these terms that've gone in and out of PC vogue are basically arbitrary. I wonder what we'll be saying in another 30 years?

xp yeah most of the commenting I've seen about it figures she slipped up with "person of color".

Fred Dalton Township (Laurel), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 17:24 (seventeen years ago)

or she's probably just racist.did you guys ever consider THAT?

Surely her brain was thinking "person of color" and sorting out the parts of speech wrong.

I mean, the main reason "colored" comes off as derogatory is that it's so fixed in a particular time and place and way of thinking, and suggests that the person saying the word still subscribes to the ideology that surrounded it -- considering Lohan's age and background, she'd have to be hanging out with some strange-ass people to be using it in that way.

jaymc, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:01 (seventeen years ago)

It was bold at first, but as I am both balding and overweight I felt that was too offensive as well. (would Italians be offended by italic words? Maybe I should have tried that instead.)

StanM, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:23 (seventeen years ago)

I always thought that the difference was less in time/place usage (outmoded, loaded, etc.) than about totality - "person of color" vs. "colored," the former uses color as an adjective to describe one aspect of an individual, whereas the latter defines that person by it?

sad man in him room (milo z), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 19:30 (seventeen years ago)
