The Riotous Rise Of The Cambridge (UK) Multi-FAP: A Summer Spectacular

This is the catch-all thread for the multiple FAP/meet-ups that are happening in Cambridge this summer.

Currently, there's a potential frisbee FAP this coming Sunday (10th) on Parker's Piece

PLUS

A FAP/walk/bike ride at some point in August (TBD)

PLUS

I'm having a housewarming BBQ FAP and would love ILXors to come along, this will be at some point in August I think. Maybe we could link it up with the generic FAP above?

PLUS

Short notice, but I've got tickets for Architecture in Helsinki this Thursday (7th) night at the Portland Arms, should anyone fancy that.

I think that covers it.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 4 July 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

Over.

jonie, Monday, 4 July 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

if there's sufficient notice i guess we might come up to cambridge for a weekend, we're thinking of doing that a couple of times anyway... don't think this sunday's an option though, really.

toby (tsg20), Monday, 4 July 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

August, please. I cannot do any more things in July. But August would be very, very nice! I have nothing planned for any of those weekends yet.

MIS Information (kate), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 06:41 (twenty years ago)

August would be good for sure.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 08:04 (twenty years ago)

reminder that Frisbee FAP is on!!!! I plan 3pm action and provide frisbee.

This Sunday: Parkers Piece. My frisbee is orange, and we should be fairly close to Parkers Piece.

Is this Pop In The Park thing gonna be gone by then?

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Friday, 8 July 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

see here for Frisbee FAP action this Sunday July 10th

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Friday, 8 July 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

xpost: ignore it; posted to wrong thread

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Friday, 8 July 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

xxpost: we should be fairly close to Reality Checkpoint on Parkers Piece

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Friday, 8 July 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

have just read the London thread. Frisbee FAP understandly may not be priority.

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Saturday, 9 July 2005 00:12 (twenty years ago)

I've been off line for the last few days. The pop in the park thing on Sunday is great, it's a world music day:

SUMMER SUNDAY
WORLD MUSIC DAY
Parker’s Piece Midday - 8.00pm

The day will also feature a fantastic line-up of entertainment from around the world on the main stage including:

CORE CRU – BREAK & SHAKE - exploring the connecting roots of Egyptian dance and break dance; TOM THE POM & SAMBA BAND – Digeridoo, Percussion and Samba; NATURAL SWEETNESS – a wonderful blend of English, Jamaican, West African and American music; MADIOKO & RAFIKA – afro-funk outfit from ‘Le Marais’ in Paris; THE EDUARDO NIEBLA EXPERIENCE - Spanish guitar playing fusing Flamenco Gypsy Jazz with Arabic, Indian, Latin and classical influences; KASAI MASAI – traditional Congolese Music from this 5 piece outfit, consisting of d’jembe, guitar, saxophone, bass and drum plus dancers; ABDELKADER SAADOUN – exponent of Rai, a rhythmic form of music which originates from Algerian music and encompasses Jazz, Funk, Rock, Reggae and Blues.

Compere: DJ SKUNK

So I'll definitely be around and about, but maybe more for flamenco than frisbee.

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Saturday, 9 July 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
K, dudes, any thoughts for a date in August? Saturday the 20th is pretty much the only date I *can't* do.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 25 July 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

Neither of the last 2 weekends (V and Reading), but any before that would be spot on.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Monday, 25 July 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

I think Emsk is having a party at least one of those weekends, but other than that I am OK.

(I probably won't be able to do the weekend of Reading due to D@r@ visiting, though.)

Rum, Sodomy and the LAN (kate), Monday, 25 July 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

So--I'll put a date on the line: Saturday 13th, anyone?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 25 July 2005 09:46 (twenty years ago)

It suits me, although I fear that may be too soon for a lot of ppl planning to attend the campuntfap.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm... We may be able to make it but me and battlingspacemonkey are off to FRance on the 15th and need to save dollar.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure Dollar can save themselves, after all David van Day must make enough money out of that hot dog van in Brighton boom boom.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

I know Lauren & Ken have expressed an interest, although I may have pushed Ken into this! :-(

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

stop pushing ken you mischievous minx

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

I only pushed him a little & he liked it really.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

Oh yes, emsk had this great idea at Truck of having a Sci-FI Time Travel weekend, but have it on a Wednesday.

Come Back Johnny B (Johnney B), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

Oh no! Carl Sagan (staring soulfully into space) has discovered a giant space-time warp which has swallowed Thursday. So instead, we will hold Thursday on Saturday.

Remember! Thursday is Saturday!!!

Rum, Sodomy and the LAN (kate), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

kate, what exactly did you have for lunch?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

Remember! Thursday is Saturday!!!

So, er... when are we having a FAP?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:05 (twenty years ago)

It's gotta be a saturday for me please.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

i can't make the 13th because i'll be either going to oxford to hang out with ledge's family, or going to a roof party. have fun!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

well saturday 13th is not fixed colette, so feel free to suggest other dates. chris will be really sad if his best friend doesn't turn up.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

i could do the 20th (assuming the ruin from poptimism isn't too much), although actually you guys should come to london for poptimism, so that's probably a bad idea.

we're in france the bank holiday weekend, so that's out as well. i suspect it'll be hard to find a date that'll please everyone, so as long as the 13th works for most people, that's cool. maybe next time i'm in cambridge with toby for a feast or something, we can have a fap after, since those old guys eat FAST!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

I am going to be in London the 13th/14th and was going to suggest a London FAP on the 14th myself.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

Argh, I'm getting all confused.

Masonic Boom (kate), Monday, 1 August 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

Boo. I can't do August at all.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 1 August 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

When this thread was started, August was all open. But now it is now. Let's start looking at September. (Except I'm trying to plan Lee or Lea canalboatfest for then, as well.)

Masonic Boom (kate), Monday, 1 August 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

Current thinking is that towards the end of August is good for me, but September is fine too. I'm contemplating the Summer Sundae festival in Leicester in a couple of weeks assuming there are still tickets, so that would rule out the 13th/14th.

This is incredibly confusing.

surely that is good (london/cambridge a cultural exchange!)

i can't do the 13th as i am possibly trying glasgow. oh, can't make 20th either actually! all the other ones are good though. holy shit 13th is only 2 weeks away.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 August 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

13th & 20th both probably bad for me. 20th definitely bad. Maybes September is looking more and more likely?

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Monday, 1 August 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

I refuse to let this thread die, people.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

September starts interfering with my boating plans!

Masonic Boom (kate), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

This Saturday!

clive (Clive), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

I'm supposed to go visit my rellies in Herts on Sunday... but could someone drive me from Cambridge to Harpenden after the FAP?

No, wait, what am I saying?

Masonic Boom (kate), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

This Saturday is strangely good for me. Although I doubt anyone else. But I think this is not what you are intending, Clive. You are of course welcome to visit the new house. xpost

Kate, be careful, I am known to agree to drive very large distances purely for fun.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

I was going to stay home and rest (and also work on the new Shimura Curves songs now we've finally got an actual Manager and all) on Saturday ... argh.

Masonic Boom (kate), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

I cannot do this Saturday. I think it may be a September fap!

Kate - surely someone would have to be sober to drive you. Surely "sober" & "after fap" do not mix!! Remember the pimms last year? Remember getting drunk in the pub before hand? Huh, huh?

Pink (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

This is true. This is very true. I am glad for Pink for talking sense. Also, I do not want to have to face my family that hungover!

Masonic Boom (kate), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

I can be sober!

(This is the extent of what I was talking about: part of me prefers the fun of the road trip to the fun of drinking. This is the only situation in which you will catch me intentionally avoiding drink!)

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

tbh, I can't do Saturday - but this weekend hadn't been mentioned anywhere on the thread.

You have moved in to the new place, right?

(xposts)

Even if your passengers have passed out?

clive (Clive), Thursday, 4 August 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Yes yes, it was like a movement from a small flat to a bigger house. I thought you were angling for a visit!

Even if your passengers have passed out?

This is better, I get no contention over the stereo then. This is why I keep the bottle of ether in the glove box.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 4 August 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

(P.S. It would be nice for you and K to come and stay, we actually have the room now and we owe you one for the other weekend)

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 4 August 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

Only if I get to push Chris in the face.

Kate's away this weekend - but we will confer and suggest suitable dates. Anyhow, back ot the thread...

clive (Clive), Thursday, 4 August 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

Only if I get to push Chris in the face.

We have been doing this to SO MANY PEOPLE. And each other. Pretty much every day.

Cool, mail me when the conference is complete.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Thursday, 4 August 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

So my friend and bandmate is DJ-ing at this festival in Cambridge on Saturday 13th:

http://www.palimpsest-festival.co.uk/

Did we nix that date?

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 07:57 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to that Kate!

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 08:35 (twenty years ago)

September starts interfering with my boating plans!

they have boats in september too kate!

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 09:24 (twenty years ago)

they have boats in CAMBRIDGE too i mean! haha.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 09:24 (twenty years ago)

Ken C - I kiss you!

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

I've heard of the "September That Never Ended..." but is it really always September in Cambridge?

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

(Many planets have a Cambridge, etc.)

Alce Tea-Skirt (kate), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Dudes, I am DJing at Palimpsest too. Come say hi!

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
*bump*

Nacht Fieber is tonight dudes!!!!

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Thursday, 1 September 2005 06:02 (twenty years ago)

When are we having the actual FAP? We said September. It's September! Pink? TISSP?

Luminiferous Aether (kate), Thursday, 1 September 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

two months pass...
Well, it is definitely not summer any more. But never mind.

I will be in Cambridge from Thurs to Sun next week, I think. So if anyone wants to FAP I am very much amenable.
