The problem is, there's this little thing called "reproductive fading", which makes repeated cloning a bit of a problem. If they don't get some "new blood" to clone, their society will die. Guess who they pick? More importantly, guess how this problem gets resolved? (No, I won't tell you, but it is as obvious as you think.)

Weellll, there's this little thing called the human body (used quite a bit in scripture as an analogy) which is quite the little rhythmic machine. Yes, except that RSS subscribing doesn't work, email notifications won't work, etc. I suppose it makes sense for "This is Where I Say" and "Excelsior" type threads, but you people seriously need to get new computers if you can't load all of that thread.

Equally, when an old thread is revived, I'll generally want to reread it from the start.

See you're just being purposefully obtuse! Even without that setting on clicking on the links when logged in takes you to the "#unread" anchor.

Of course the useless shits that ousted me have broken the system whereby Show All Messages was automatically selected when more than x messages were unread, and now clicking it manually loses the unread messages marker so you don't know where to start.

It's basic purpose (as I used it) is "I would like to see (n) messages of reminder, which I have read before. Or more than that if there are more than (n) new messages".

I am basing this on the idea that if you're reading a 1000-message thread, you should read or at least skim the 1000 messages, no matter what your setting.

(Obviously there's a compromise position, but I never had a chance to implement it and god forbid the team now in charge ever lift a finger)
