Yanno, with all that free money.

This is the Thread Where I Say Pt 34: Baby, How'd We Ever Get This Way?

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

I just hit my Mom up for money. Last month, it was Dad. I'm alternating. It's good to have a schedule.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

I feel your pain, babe. After I get paid this Friday and pay my rent, I'll have approximately $35 with which to pay the phone bills, the gas bill, the electric bill, gas and food.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Woh, the thread is practically middle-aged.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Yay! I got to name the thread, kind of!

See, I've already borrowed (large sums of) money from my mom, one of my sisters, and my boyfriend. You know who has money but would never offer to lend me any? My Dad. But I know no one HAS to lend me money. I should be more responsible... or something.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

I know how it is, though, Sarah. You turn around one day, and you're broke. Responsible is one thing, broke is quite another.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Aw, TITTWIS is having another baby (-themed title) :)

Archel, your posts spread happiness and warm loving vibes wherever they go, so please post the lost one again!

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

I've had offers of money-loanery, but I never take my various family members up on it. Maybe I should, though. Maybe I could, y'know, do something.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Can someone live on 50 cents a day? Stay tuned!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

G Unit!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Hey, Baby, Why don't you tell me one of your greatest fears?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Losing my penis to a whore with disease.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Lost post was something like:

I am leaving in one hour [now 30 mins] and going for tapas.

Aw Pink. People be joking, sometimes it's a coping mechanism. And some people are just dicks. Don't let it make you feel worse. Personally if someone was upset by my joking I wd stop immediately but if they don't do that then it's time for the big red IGNORE! IGNORE! sign.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

How did we all get so destitute?

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

im not destitute by any means, im just fat and grumpy.

Lupton Pitman (Chris V), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

Wait, you get to be two dwarves, Chris? How'd you work that one?

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

unfortunately my family has always been poorer than me so when times have been really tough it's usually off to the pawn shop for me.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

Well, for example, I bought plane tickets home, and then put down a deposit on some bookbinding courses, the other half of which I'll have to pay up come October. These two amounts alone would've covered my entire budget for August.

But really it's because I'm a)unemployed and b) a student.

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

I should've added c) a fool for buying those things back in March when I had money and not budgeting.

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

ooh! i'm super jealous about your bookbinding courses!!!

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

I budgeted. I had ten dollars a day to live on. Kind of a tall order, actually. I went to a movie, took a cab twice, ate some junk food, and drank some beer, and now I'm totally fucked. The real problem here is that I don't make enough money.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and that one day of Intonation ate my lunch.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

I budgeted. I had ten dollars a day to live on.
That's about how much I have in my budget, after paying bills. And I've pulled it off for two months in a row. I'm not sure what happened this month exactly. I probably just went out to eat a couple times too many.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

On a really good week, what with the all the food I serve to the bankers that ends up in my clutches, I can save about $50 a week I otherwise would have spent on breakfast and lunch.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

i make shit, luckily the wife makes great money.

Lupton Pitman (Chris V), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

Kelsey, are you in Chicago? There are some really good ones there. I'm hoping these several I'm signed up for will be worth the gargantuan cost.

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

i guess this would be a bad time to brag about my amazing fiscal responsibility?

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

sgs......i am. are you thinking of the book arts program at columbia? i drool everytime i think about that. maybe signing up for a masters in book binding is what i need to get out of my slump.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Dear ILx - please pick a new career for me, k thx bye.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

i want a new one, too, luna. or at least to have the one i want full time.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

i feel dumb. i didn't move here quickly enough.

dahlin (dahlin), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

where is here?

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

I'm applying for a new job at the same place. A much better job that I think I deserve.
I have not applied for similar postings in the past, because I've sorta figured that since I take everything so damned personally, I wouldn't be able to continue working here after such a rejection.
But I'm using that to my advantage this time. If I don't get it, I'll quit. Because this job is ruining me.
My sister's in town and she's been telling me what cynical fuck I've become, the whore.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

where is here?

Glasgow.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

me. i am here.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

Man, 10 dollars a day isn't that bad... I've lived for less than that for the last few years, except for the summers, when I usually (though not always) have a summer job. Of course, when you're a fifth (soon sixth) year student, you kinda get used to it, and stop dreaming of expensive things. My principle is, if you have enough money to eat properly and go to the pub on regular basis, you're doing okay. Unfortunately, there have been times when I couldn't even afford to buy a pint, and that's when you really feel poor. A pint or few with your friends every now and then should be a basic human right.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

I think I will get a night job as a cocktail waitress.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Do cocktail waitresses even exist anymore?

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Sorry to just pop in on everyone this way, but $10 a day isn't bad unless you realize that's all it will ever be and you're 29 and almost 30 and you want to visit breezy, quiet pastoral places in beautiful faraway countries but you can't even hardly get out of Chicago on $10 a day. If that's not the case, then $10 a day sounds great. Talking about money is always depressing.

New career: forest ranger.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

you'd probably make a killing.

yes they do.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

I really enjoy/ed waitressing.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

Seriously. I enjoy serving people food and drink. Does that make me servile? Is that a bad thing?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

Yeah I'm making do on about $30 a week.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

I'll have to wear short skirts and let old men pinch my bum, but it MIGHT BE WORTH IT.

Oh kill me.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm a control freak too, which I guess is why I proposed myself. Sadly I will choose control over surprise almost every time.

Hence totally HATING the fact that my step-dad had secretly arranged a hotel for us for the wedding night (as it happens my gran spilt the beans by mistake so the evil plan was foiled haha, though I played along anyway).

Archel (Archel), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

pink, that's a crazy thing for your friend to say

stelf)xxxx, Friday, 5 August 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

My brief marriage, years ago, was the result of extremely rational, mutual agreement. Niether of us proposed but one of us must have asked, "Well, should we get married then?"

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

stelfox, i'll marry you.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Well you know dave, I really didn't think ppl thought like that anymore. I'd kind of given up on the whole being married before kids thing (even though that's what i would want ideally) as we can't afford both, but now I'm not so sure.

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

Yay Mandee! I just have to ask, how do you feel about men with lots of trainers?

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

i'm cool with trainers!

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

alright mandee, it's a deal.
where are you, btw, and can i get a green card out of it?

stelf)xxxxx, Friday, 5 August 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

Nobody is ever going to want to marry me.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

See now they're engaged, how hard can it be?!! damnit!! *cries*

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

FP, does your old email address still work? I sent a message to it. If you are just ignoring the mail that's fine too, it didn't need a reply :)

Archel (Archel), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

i'm in the USA, so yeah, green card--totally--if you want to move to this sinking ship !!

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

ta Archel - I usually try to catch up on that address's mail at the weekend

(i use it for all my mailing-list subscriptions, so it gets ~ 1000 mails per week)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

It's OK, I mean, Jared Harris got married two weeks ago and you don't see me crying over it!

Alec Tea-Skirt (kate), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

btw, mandee, i've also emailed you, because i've alwayws thought i'd like to know my future wife reallly well. i reckon one reply should do the job.
see, folks, it's easy, all you have to do is ask - and not even a specific person.
just go up a few random strangers in the street or wear a sandwich board saying "husband/wife wanted - will you marry me?" and i'm betting you'll be up the aisle in minutes.

stelf)xxxx, Friday, 5 August 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

hey i replied to your e-mail and it was UNDELIVERABLE!

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

(Actually, that's true, I just married Ken C this morning after all. We had wrestlers at our ceremony and everything!)

Alec Tea-Skirt (kate), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

i see LADY FATE is throwing a couple of road blocks our way

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

(archel - *when* did you send it? if it was after 7.30 today then I don't seem to have got it. if before, it must be on my computer at home and i've not noticed it)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

kate, i like yr new name! anagrams are the best.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Fight through that shit Mandee! Aww congrats you two!

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

It was yesterday, Forest.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

mandee, this is where all the deceit begins!
(should be okay now, though)

stelf)xxx, Friday, 5 August 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Hi Huksta!

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

Aaah. I'll read it when I get home, then.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

i just got the anagram in kate's new name - awesome!

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Nearly hometime for me too!

Three minutes left officially (not that I'm a clockwatcher, but I've not exactly been enjoying the office lately)

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

I don't get to go home for another half hour. Poo.

I suppose I should really do some work, but can't really be arsed.

Alec Tea-Skirt (kate), Friday, 5 August 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

I should be going now! woo! see you kids later. xxx

Panther Pink (Pinkpanther), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

Laters g-kit & pink!

I don't know whether to leave work now or in a bit.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

i'm back from the market!
but with NO GOLDEN GRAHAMS
OR HALLOUMI!
instead i'm eating salt and vinegar rice cakes.
i may bake a batch of pretzels too!
i wanna get proposed to....

dahlin (dahlin), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

i proposed to my wife in typical fashion...i was in my underwear, wife beater and black socks. i had just gotten home from work and was changing when i couldn't hold back any more. she told me afterwards she wouldn't have wanted it any other way...it was me being me.

Lupton Pitman (Chris V), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

awwwwwwwww
how.... romantic

dahlin (dahlin), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

This is a complete aside and in no way a criticism of anyone or anything anyone has been saying here, because it's all very cute and all... but I suddenly realised that most of the time IRL I'm not actually that bothered about being single. It just often really strikes me when I get on ILX and everyone is talking so cutely about their other halves and partners and how they got engaged and that kind of thing, that I just suddenly feel a bit ... like I'm missing something.

Which I don't generally feel when I'm tucked up in bed with my laptop and my guitar and a takeaway pizza.

Just ruminating, really. Never mind me. I'll go home soon.

Alec Tea-Skirt (kate), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

I've just got the best image of you Kate.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Right, home time. 'Till next week folks.

tissp! (the impossible shortest specia), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

I just got here and already I need to leave. Woooo, only 8 hours to go!

bare meat lei (luna.c), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

well, that's one life goal accomplished. maybe i'll pass my driving test this weekend, too.

stelf)xxxx, Friday, 5 August 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Out of here myself now... think I'm the last English person to sink over the horizon but goodnight Transatlantic folk (and others) and have a good weekend...

Alec Tea-Skirt (kate), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

You too, Kate. xx

luna (luna.c), Friday, 5 August 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

luna (luna.c), Friday, 5 August 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 5 August 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

this is over 1000, so I'm gonna start a new one and I can't think of what to call these bastards anymore.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 5 August 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

Kittens Licking Cakes!

Those of you far far away, happy weekend already!

Pink, maybe you should just ask him what is up. Say you know you're being silly and you know he loves you, but did he still want to get married? But don't let him get away with just agreeing to it. I would demand a decent semi-surprising proposal!
