Did anyone just hear that Marketplace story about Disney cracking down on the LA pinata craftsmen for trademark infringement? Fuck Disney. Can't they just say that it's a parody of the character? How does that work? Fuck Disney.
(I know the Taz Devil is WB, but the story was mostly talking about Shrek pinatas.)

Question: When is parody protected from a charge of trademark infringement?
Answer: Parody is a usage of a mark that pokes fun at the mark and does not confuse the public as to the source of the usage. In determining whether there is infringement the court balances the public interest in free expression against the public interest in avoiding consumer confusion. "A parody must convey two simultaneous--and contradictory messages; that it is the original, but also that it is not the original and is instead a parody. To the extent that it does only the former but not the latter, it is not only a poor parody but also vulnerable under trademark law, since the consumer will be confused."

No, it's not. Calvin pissing on something out of spite is pretty in-character. The fact that he never did it on a corporate logo in the comic is kind of irrelevant. If I made a logo of Garfield eating the Fazoli's logo, I guarantee Jim Davis would be all over my ass if he stops making "high art" or whatever the fuck he's up to now.

I was wondering how long it'd be until someone else took a stab at that winning Hook formula. Because who doesn't enjoy seeing the dispirited, middle-aged versions of whimsical fictional kids.

i would see a melancholy live-action adaptation of house at pooh corner, populated roger-rabbit-style by shepard designs, with lots of pensive pastoral shots and a growing sense of apprehensive confusion at christopher robin's-- nah fuck it but i would definitely watch the many adventures again.

If they stay close to the original graphic novel by AA Milne and explore Tigger's grittier origin story, maybe borrowing from Frank Miller's take, than this could be good

lol fuck you disney: https://www.indiewire.com/2022/03/disney-fund-dont-say-gay-support-gay-rights-content-1234704433/
The Walt Disney Company issued a statement of support for the LGBTQ+ community amid the backlash against Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, supported by state politicians that the corporation has funded. But the company is still funding the homophobic politicians who’ve supported the bill, and nothing Disney CEO Bob Chapek has said indicates that that will change. The Orlando Sentinel reported that Disney has given money to every single sponsor and co-sponsor of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which was passed by Florida’s House of Representatives February 24. Officially titled the House Bill 1557, the proposed law is heading to the state’s Republican-held Senate next.As the Orlando Sentinel stated, the bill’s Senate sponsor, Ocala Republican Dennis Baxley, has actively backed anti-gay legislation for years, including laws that would block gay couples from adopting children.

Chapek may be starting to sweat a bit over this: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/09/business/disney-ceo-florida-lgbtq-bill.html
Mr. Chapek also said Disney would donate $5 million to L.G.T.B.Q. organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign. “As I wrote to our employees earlier this week, we’re committed to supporting community organizations like these so they are better equipped to take on these fights,” he said. “Meanwhile, we will also be assessing our approach to advocacy, including political giving in Florida.”
Unless Disney's "political giving" undergoes some serious changes, I can't be bothered to give a shit about whatever minor ducats they feel like throwing at the HRC.
