First to post!

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:37 (twenty years ago)

Hey guys, someone just sent me this mention of my band in the Chicago Trib from a couple of weeks ago (from an article about noise in bars):

Dave Jemilo, owner of the Green Mill: We tell the people at the door when they are getting ready to pay what the rules are for the night. . . . We have different levels of [quiet] rules . . . the first is the [Sheila] Jordan rule, which means absolutely no talking during the band performance. Then there's Jordan-lite which means be as quiet as possible during the show--and that would be for something like the battle of the saxes. Then we have the rules for bands that are pretty loud, like Mama Dig Down or something like that. I figure if you warn them ahead of time, they can say, "I'm not going in this joint for 10 bucks if I'm not gonna be able to talk."

Neat!

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

It's weird, I don't think of your band as being particularly loud. But then I go to rock shows more often than jazz shows.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

I have to say again how much I like Nick's Chicago album cover idea. Some of these covers are great. And what's even better is that by the time you get past the first few albums, and before the big ballad albums starting at 16 or so, the records are astonishingly terrible.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

They're definitely loud, at least compared to the other shows I've seen at the Green Mill.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

I think we consciously pull it back a little for the Mill, but yeah, I'm sure there's a gap between a really loud acoustic band and a really loud guitar band.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

Do you guys wear ear plugs when you go to/play shows?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

i don't. i have in the past, but i don't regularly. that's probably why i don't hear very well.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I really should, but I don't.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

Did you guys see that a guy from that kung fu place revived the Chicago IX thread last night?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

EAR PLUGZ R FOR LAMERZ.

Congrats to Canasta on Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! show. That's a big deal. And yes, Ben used to be in Super-Eights, and we are playing with them at the Hideout. IT'S ALL CONNECTED.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Same here, John. It hasn't been a big deal lately, but we played a show at the Nomad in Milwaukee on Saturday and it was LOUD. It's a small, loud room and my shit was ringing afterwards. I will never play there without ear plugs again, and I shudder to think of all the times that I did.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

I bought some Ear Love ear plugs after seeing Ghost and Borbetomagus, the loudest bands I have ever seen live. My ears rang for a week afterwards. I always forget to bring them to shows, but I really haven't experience any ringing since then.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Wow, those look great. I've always been too lazy to go get the custom-molded musicians' earplugs. I think I'll get a pair.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

I have definite trouble with very loud shows, and try to remember earplugs whever I can. I've been known to stuff toilet paper in my ears as an alternative. Otherwise, yeah -- my ears ring for a long time. I had a bout with tinnitis a few years ago, and while it's mostly subsided, I don't want it to come back.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

i'm kinda anal about wearing earplugs. i try to always have some on me. slightly wet tissue is my last resort option.

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

are the ear loves much better than foam? i have some 33db foam plugs that i use & the ear loves are only 20db....

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for that link, Jeff. I just ordered a pair, too.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Probably not for blocking out a lot, but good for not distorting the music as much.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

what colors do you guys have?

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait, I met the woman who started EarLove (or at least proselytizes for it) at Schubas one time. I think she was hitting on EL.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

(I just went with clear because I am boring.)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

E.L. for EL!

I just ordered a pair of the clear ones, because I am also boring and I want them to be non-obtrusive. Free shipping though, sweet!

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone else find it alarming that we go through one of these threads a week now?

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

If you erase the posts that have to do with social activities, I think it would be a lot more modest.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

I blame Amanda and Jenny.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

STOP SOCIALIZING YOU MANIACS

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

I blame god, hitler, and carrot top.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

I will try to be more anti-social, as long as I'm not associated with the column called "Chicag0 Antis0cial."

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

It's a good thing you didn't go to Phil's Intonation Fest afterparty, then. SHE WAS THERE.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

God do I hate that shit.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

I always wear earplugs to shows, ever since seeing Public Enemy and detecting a noticeable change in my hearing afterwards.

deej.., Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

I blame Amanda and Jenny.

Hmm. I used to write 20 page letters too, so this is just Phase 5 of "You talk too much."

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

I have a pair, i don't think they're by 'ear love' but they look a lot like those.

deej.., Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha. I once filled up a notebook with entries/letters to a boyfriend. I think he was a little scared when I surprised him with it. This was in mid-high school.

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Here's a thread about me freaking out about my hearing:
What the hell just happened in my ear? Are there aliens in there playing drum and bass?

It's been fine since then though.

Is it lunchtime yet? ARGH!

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

so what are you all doing the weekend of oct. 14 -17? or is it too early to tell?

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

To the best of my knowledge, I'll be here. Too bad you're not coming the previous weekend, Mandee, since that will be Canasta's record-release show/party. On the upside, the album will be out and available for purchase.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

Also, went to "Jeri's Grill" (which amusingly advertizes the fact that it sells HAM ON THE BONE right above its westward-facing window) on Western and montrose the other night, what a place! Its like stepping into a time portal, a time before health codes and yuppies were everywhere. Considered putting on some bogus pop music - Nelly or Kylie or something, then thought better of it, feared it would destroy the blue collar atmosphere and people would stare. There were some ambulance workers relaxing and eating a meal, ambulance parked in front of the windows. It felt like we were extras in a movie about ambulance drivers, the way the whole place was set up was as if everyone was a member of the cast of some grainy 70s film where the main characters take a break in a diner. (I feel like this a lot when I hang out w my friends who are all film students.) My friend Gabe made the mistake - the deadly, bland-tasting mistake - of ordering the chili ($2.50). HOWEVER! The chicken patty ($4.00) was terrific. Prices were almost all under 5 bucks. I also got tea ($1.50) and raisin toast ($1.00)

deej.., Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

Mandee, That's really far away! So, we don't have any plans (ie: Nick & I).

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

Considered putting bogus pop music on the jukebox, that should say.

deej.., Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

(which amusingly advertizes the fact that it sells HAM ON THE BONE right above its westward-facing window)

Kelsey! Where are you? (We used to share many a laugh about that sign.)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

well i do not have to come oct. 14 - 17. I was kind of just picking a weekend at random.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

Come whenever!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

i just asked my boss for Oct. 14 & 17 off... cross my fingers she says yes

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

I LOVE JERI'S GRILL! JOHN! I AM HERE! IN CAPS!

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

so what are you all doing the weekend of oct. 14 -17? or is it too early to tell?
-- Homosexual II (mandeewrigh...), August 9th, 2005. (later)

Mandee, I am doing nothing except MEETING YOU. Mwahaha. Will you be staying with Jennifer & Martin?

jennpb (jennpb), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

probably! but they dont know that yet! :P

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

why dont you post more jenn?? also i heard that jennifer's club is now dead? :(

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

I know -- I know you were kidding. Today is the day where nothing NOTHING I say is right and it has caused me all sorts of trouble. I won't bore you with the details. I do apologize for sounding so severe.

I should duck out before I screw up something else.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

That part has been decided already. We're going to my landlord's restaurant, Buona Terra. Where you can sit outside, but there's really not a lot of interesting stuff/people around that intersection.

I just remembered that we are being invaded this weekend...it's the Air and Water Show!

The Popish Plot (dymaxia), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

NO!!!!!!!! Not the AIRSHOW. Shit.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I found out that I won't be able to go mix until 11 pm (!) and Maddie's working late, so I'm going to go see a movie by myself after work. However, Grizzly Man hasn't opened yet. My options at the theater down the hall are:

Me and You and Everyone We Know

Crash (my pick, but I should wait and see it with Maddie)

Ladies in Lavender

Happy Endings

What should I see?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

xpost Yeah, it's scary for about a minute. Then it's annoying.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

Why do people get so aggrieved by the Air and Water Show? It's like, there's a loud noise a couple times during the day. So?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

I just don't like the crowds. That's why I moved to a big city. ha ha

Amanda, don't worry about it! Amanda, have you noticed I type your name alot?

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

Where are there crowds?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

I mean, it's all downtown, right? How is it any different from any other tourist invasion like the Taste of Chicago or whatever?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

I don't know. I've only encountered them once. I think Nick was trying to drive somewhere and they got in our way.

DASLKFJLKASJLKSJDFKLSJAKFJDSKAjksldj;fkl;asjkl;djfkl;djsakl;fjdskal;jfdk;sa I'm spaced out.

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Sarah. I'm sorry. I like to type your name too. Sarah. Sarah. Sarah.

I guess I really don't like loud noises. Like fireworks. Explosions. Airplanes. People.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

I'm love fun things about love and fun. Things.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

I guess I hear a loud plane or two, but that's it. Maybe if I lived closer to downtown, it would be more annoying?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

I am such a fatty mcfattster right now. I tried to be good and have a turkey burger on pita from home, but I ruined it with two molassas cookies and a coke from the place downstairs. What kills me is being right on campus for work.
Even though it's not on the list, go see March of the Penguins. I totally cried my eyes out.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

I'd say more, but I have to go fact-check biographies of Tyra Banks and Jerry Bruckheimer right now.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

TYRA!!!

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

I'm serious.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

I just remembered that TV movie Tyra was in where she was a real-life Barbie doll, like a second rate Mannequin . And it turns out that the little girl in the movie was none other than Linds@y Lohan.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

john, can i get a copy of the bio for Top M0del?

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

what do you mean? it is just a one-page article.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

I went to the doctor today and I said MY KNEES HURT AND I AM FAT AND I EXERCISE A LOT AND WEIGHT WATCHERS MAKES ME CRY BECAUSE 18 POINTS IS NOT ENOUGH FOOD HELP and she gave me... pills. That could cause heart attacks! But she gave me an EKG first so at least if I die of a heart attack she's done enough that I can't sue her for malpractice.

I'm going to give the fatty pills a week to work then start Weight Watchers again and as god as my witness, I will once again be able to fit into the clothes I moved to Chicago with by my birthday!

Funny that it's been a food/weight issue all around today. We are joined at the stomach by a karmic thread.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

Having a job is the best diet for me. I would snack all day at home, but I just forget about eating here. I already feel lighter!!!

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

pulla, When's your b-day?

jaymc, I TOTALLY forgot that's the badresa birthday bash! Nick and I are both there.

ALSO, who wants to come to our apartment Sunday afternoon? I will have family guests the two weekends after that, so we need to get some hanging out in.

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Thursday, 18 August 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

My birthday is 11/22.

I would LOVE to hang out on Sunday. I don't know if I'll be able to, though. If I can get this dumb dumb dumb research assignment done, and get my reading done for classes, then yes, I really want to come over.

Those are big IFs, but I'm kind of cooking right along on the paper now so that's a good sign.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 18 August 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

Get to work, then! Sunday afternoon you will be free, free as a bird.

I just told TITTWIS, but I went to Lush for the first time last night and bought this soap. I love it! Also, I discovered I'd never been to that section of Armitage with all the fancy pants shops. It was yet another incident which made me realize how much of Chicago I have left to explore.

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Thursday, 18 August 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Oh my god. I was up until 4:30 a.m. mixing last night/this morning, and then I was woken up at 6:30 by a thunderstorm and a possessed cat. Today's going to be fun.

Hi Chicago!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 August 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

Hi Jordan. At least you were up late doing something fun, instead of being persecuted for being a witch or mining for coal. Think of it that way.

I'm so tired of thinking and talking about food and diets and exercise. I'm just going to be healthy and stop talking or thinking about it.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 18 August 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

two things: the food theme yesterday extended far beyond ILX, people. there wasn't mass hysteria, but i dealt with hysteria on several non-ILX fronts. i'm very glad it's over.

second, that picture upthread that used to be anna gasteyer has changed! now it's the red eye from today -- why did it choose today, of all days, to change?

jordan, you're going to be slaphappy today. or grumpy.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 18 August 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

Those rasberries were really good!

Nick, do people tend to get persecuted for mining for coal? ha ha

Jordan, Hi!

Manda, Hi!

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Thursday, 18 August 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I regret nothing, the mixes are sounding really good (only 3 tracks per song!). We spent five hours on two songs but now the engineer i.e. my friend Scott has the blueprint for the rest of the tunes.

I'm just going to be healthy and stop talking or thinking about it.

I hear you, Nick. I wish healthy living was ingrained enough where I didn't have to talk/worry about it.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 August 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

I wish we were at the song mixing stage! We haven't even started working on our songs to get ready for recording. I'm looking forward to hearing bits of the new album this weekend, jaymc.

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

So you like how it's turning out, Jordan?

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

I think I'm veering toward slaphappy, Amanda. Leaving for work this morning, I kissed Maddie goodbye and said, "Good night, honey" and then tripped over the curb.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

Jordan is Dick Van Dyke. Look out for that ottoman!

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

At least you were up late doing something fun, instead of being persecuted for being a witch or mining for coal.

Or writing a paper on punitive damages in products liability suits...

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I was a little worried but now I'm totally excited. The rough mixes that we slapped together a couple of weeks ago used a lot of compression to control levels and were basically piercing and dry with the drums way out front. Now, there's no compression at all, the sousaphone is pushed way up, and the brutal trumpet highs got taken care of with limiting and volume automation. We totally dropped the bass drum mic because there was more bass drum bleeding into the snare mic, it's crazy. I can't believe how warm and full it sounds compared to the unmixed and rough stuff with just EQ and a little reverb added.

/band geek

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

Were they SEXY punitive damages?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

So I'm reading this book, The Russian Debutate's Handbook. And I just don't quite get it. I know what it's trying to do, but it's just not quite getting there for me. The author picture is fantastic through. And it sort of goes along with all this talk of Grizzley Men,
http://www.seattleweekly.com/graphics/features/0321/gary.jpg
And then I tried to read some comics and I didn't "get" them either (Powers, Forever). Help my BRAYNE is withering away.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:20 (twenty years ago)

Haha, explaining Powers might be the one thing that my brain is actually capable of accomplishing today, Jocelyn.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

I've always like that scene at the end of Manhattan where Woody talks into a microphone about what makes life worth living, and makes a little list ("Second movement of the Jupiter Symphony"). I added a new item to my own list on the bus this morning, and it is the first chapter of Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs.

The second chapter is about torturing his Sims to death. God bless this man.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

We're getting a new thread soon anyway, so...:

Author returns, finds city now cool

Former Beacon Journal reporter talks with fans about book, pop culture

For about an hour and a half Saturday, writer Chuck Klosterman talked about what he knows best -- pop culture.

Klosterman, a former Beacon Journal feature writer, was at the Akron-Summit County Public Library to talk about his new book, Killing Yourself to Live: 85 Percent of a True Story, but he ended up talking about subjects as varied as death metal, why he likes new country music, and comparing the world in The Simpsons to Akron.

After a brief introduction by Beacon Journal writer David Giffels, Klosterman, clad in a purple T-shirt and blue jeans, talked about his new book and called his relationship with writing ``the only successful relationship I've ever had.''

The basis of Klosterman's third book started with an article he was writing for his current employer, Spin Magazine. Klosterman was to make a cross-country journey to places where rock stars died and was told by his editor to come back with an epic.

What came out of the story was an epic in Klosterman's own life.

During his assignment, the North Dakota native was torn among three women. Then, while traveling to places where musicians died, Klosterman started thinking about his own mortality.

The result ended up being Killing Yourself to Live, a story about Klosterman's life and feelings, with the deaths of rock stars mixed in.

Some might consider the book self-serving, but even Klosterman was quick to agree. ``It is narcissistic,'' Klosterman said. ``But I'm a very narcissistic person.''

For the speaking engagement, about 100 people of various ages showed up to listen and then get books signed.

Two self-described Klosterman groupies, Elizabeth Whitmyer, 37, of Akron and Lisa Sobnosky, 38, of New Franklin, just wanted to get a chance to see their favorite former Beacon Journal staffer. ``We're anxious to get our picture taken with him,'' Sobnosky said. ``But we don't stalk him or anything.''

Jessica Cherok of Green has been stalking Klosterman's writing since she read his second book, Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs. ``I love his writing,'' the 17-year-old Cherok said. ``I'm so excited, I've been looking forward to this all summer.''

In a question-and-answer session, Klosterman was asked if he was surprised that his writing has been used as a college teaching tool. ``It's weird to me that people buy my books,'' Klosterman said. ``It's even weirder to me that people buy my books to educate. When someone says they like my work so much they want to teach with it, it creeps me out.''

Before reading the audience a chapter of his new book, Klosterman told them he was glad to be back in Akron, where he lived from 1998 to 2002. ``I went to the Lime Spider... and Akron is cool now,'' Klosterman said. ``Of course that happens right after I leave.''

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)

I just read Powers: Sellouts which was great, and now Forever is monkey sex and sub-Conan dialogue and I don't really care because I want to get back to Deena in the hospital.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 18 August 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

It's too bad that Bendis retain his Whedon/Sorkin dialogue tics for the Conan talk.
