It is September 2005 in Iraq

... and now the Brits are at it too. Earlier today, soldiers out of uniform (apparently SAS) were arrested by the Iraqi police after shooting at them when told to stop at a checkpoint. Then, rioters set fire to a British tank in Basra.

So, now, heh, British troops have bust down the walls of the central jail in Basra with a tank to free them. (150 Iraqi prisoners fled the jail as well.) Seems we don't negotiate with legitimate governments either.

So much for a democratic nation. So much for the British showing the Americans how it should be done.

The BBC are reporting the soldiers as still in custody.

The Brits must have really puny tanks if rioters can destroy them.

The breakout is just, er, breaking right now.

(And sorry for the double: I tried searching for subject "september 2005 in iraq" and nothing came up. Original: It's September 2005 in Iraq )

I love the idea that the Brits think there is something wrong about their guys being arrested if they bust through a checkpoint and shoot at cops.

I just can't believe we thought it was acceptable to break down the jail. With six tanks. We're supposed to be the good guys [chokes with laughter; cries]

10 o'clock news: "breaking down the prison wall was an accident."

(Sorry, I just accidentally cracked your nut with a sledgehammer.)

They sent more than six tanks! Ooops. Why don't they just sail a fucking gunboat up the Shatt Al-Arab while they're at it?

I also love the MoD spokesman who said "under Iraqi law these people should have been handed over to the British army". Jesus, they don't even bother trying to hide the fact that the Iraqi authorities are a mickey mouse quisling outfit whose "law" has handily been written for them by the occupiers.
