is anyone here suffering from an inability to feel like they 'like' anyone romantically anymore?

i think i was suffering from this for quite a while but now i feel like its going to be okay, its an odd feeling though, you feel quite numb to everything, as if something is dead inside you. i suppose some people might even go the opposite direction just so they can tell themselves they dont feel like this, but thats obviously not the answer either is it really?

i find it helps if you log in

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:27 (twenty years ago)

Someone (Rick? N?) had a great thread about this.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:27 (twenty years ago)

Is this the step-sibling of the speed-dating thread then?

salexander (salexander), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

...or the OKCupid thread...?

N had a thread that was called "Women do not excite me, nor men either" or something like that but the search function is buggered.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:33 (twenty years ago)

"Is this the step-sibling of the speed-dating thread then?"

hi salexander, i suppose it is, yes!

hmmhmhmh, Monday, 3 October 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

It's Sophie :) You are good at starting these controversial topics hmmhmm.
xpost. Yes the search function appears to have been fuXored for quite some time. Perhaps it is just us though. Maybe it is a sign of rejection.

salexander (salexander), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:38 (twenty years ago)

ths search function doesnt want us to reunite with old threads! its the ILX equivalent of a cockblocker!

hmhmmhhm, Monday, 3 October 2005 10:39 (twenty years ago)

It is not fucked for old threads, I don't think.

Woman delights not me; no, nor men neither

Alba (Alba), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

Thank you, N, that was the one I was thinking of.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

I have the opposite problem, in that I am altogether too affectionate.

C J (C J), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:41 (twenty years ago)

I mean, it's fucked for ones from the last few weeks, months maybe. I don't know.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:41 (twenty years ago)

Oh fuck except I just clicked through to it, started reading and now I'm crying. Oh god. :-(

I think I'm going to go in the loo and have a cry for a while. That caught me really unawares.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:42 (twenty years ago)

Oh, sorry.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

Memories, memories. ILX is good like that. Memory like an elephant. Hmhmhm could well have contributed to that, but we shall never know. Mysteriouser and mysteriouser.

salexander (salexander), Monday, 3 October 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

You have a memory that's big, grey and wrinkly?

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:00 (twenty years ago)

Haha hadiha. That was just wilful misinterpretation & a fallacy, a disgraceful fallacy.

salexander (salexander), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:03 (twenty years ago)

Aww Kate, I just went back and read it too...

suzy (suzy), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

Gah. I thought that thread was different, it was the title that stuck in my mind - there was another one that was actually on topic, not my hijack to describe my first meeting with a man I'd end up in a nearly two year relationship with.

That really hurt, but no need to apologise, N, it was I who asked for the revive.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:05 (twenty years ago)

Yes. I have discovered that women are mental and I am dead inside.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

I've been telling you that for years.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

A rare moment of concurrance with Ally C. (Please don't correct my spelling if it's wrong, I couldn't bear it.)

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I'm not interested in sex, or being in love or being with anyone ever again. It's worrying at 26 years of age.

Bombed Out and Depleted / Kate (papa november), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

For instance; I received an email this morning which ended with the words

"I have no interest in seeing you again."

Which I find distressing, baffling and amusing.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

I've been writing those kinds of emails lately - or rather, failing to write them.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

You sure it wasn't a spammer?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

i still like liking people.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

do you like like people?

Like Daphne and Like I'm Celeste (nostudium), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

Unless it's from the clap clinic. xpost TIMING and now it's lost the funnieh. ah whateveah.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

You sure it wasn't a spammer?

"I have no interest in seeing you again. However, if you would like to buy a university diploma for only $19.99 plus carriage from me, then please email me at your earliest convenience."

Alba (Alba), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

The only reason I'm asking is that a couple of years ago there was a wave of "You are a really poor writer!"-type emails from supposedly known addresses which turned out to be spam ads.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

Indeed. I wait every day for the clap clinic to send me something. ANYTHING.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

I used to run a clap clinic. You wouldn't want the kind of stuff we sent out...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

I'm waiting for a note from my ladydoctor about the results of my PAP smear, and I sincerely hope that it says "I have no interest in seeing you again, for at least 3 years".

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

xpost. Or the "Someone is interested in you". And then inside the email: "We would like to sell you stuff, you poor fool. As if anyone would actually be interested in YOU".

salexander (salexander), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

I used to run a clap clinic. You wouldn't want the kind of stuff we sent out...

I wouldn't want the kind of stuff you took in!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

"i still like liking people."

me too. perhaps not liking liking people is more honest then when you really like people it wont be just cos you like liking them, but then the problem there is that its not particularly positive and you might scare people off by being someone that doesnt want to like people

hmhmhmhmh, Monday, 3 October 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

Come again? Talk about circumlocution!

salexander (salexander), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

You're THINKING too much and DOING too little, hmhmhmhmh!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

Not to mention that your name sounds like a muffled clearing of the throat.

salexander (salexander), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

or steve martin's character in the man with two brains

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Oh we are being too mean. It was only meant in jest :) Marcello took it too far below the belt.

salexander (salexander), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

You sure you're not mixing up "it" with Kathleen Turner (in my dreams)?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

marcello i, like, like, like, 'like' like, like, people, like, yes

ken c (ken c), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

actually it should have been i, like, like, like, 'like' liking, like, people, like.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:35 (twenty years ago)

Overheard in an Oxford Tube coach several years ago: "I, like, hate Sting."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

This whole thread is starting to remind me of those weird conversations on the school bus which revolved around whether or not a specific boy LIIIIIIIIIIIIKED you. Or not.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

and you wonder why i post under an alias.....

hmhmhm, Monday, 3 October 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Has anyone else ever thought how weird "like" is if you say it backwards? I ekil you. Actually it sounds kind of cute.

salexander (salexander), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

ally, you spanner

RJG (RJG), Monday, 3 October 2005 13:01 (twenty years ago)

i have almost no interest in the opposite sex; there is a distant, muffled echo of my former heterosexuality lurking somewhere beneath my rough, flabby exterior

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 3 October 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

mandee wright is the name of a sexy porn actress

pornlovah, Monday, 3 October 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

there is not

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 3 October 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

Mandee, kiss me.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 3 October 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

QUIT FLIRTIN', COOK

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 3 October 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

Another dream dies.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

kiss him Mandee, then sell your story.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

To answer the question asked in the thread title?

Yes, I have that feeling frequently. It broke a few days ago when I found a picture of myself @ age-12 with my age-13 crush and realized that I felt more strongly for her (in legacy) than I have for anybody (in present) for half a decade.

remy unlogged, Monday, 3 October 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

I've been writing those kinds of emails lately - or rather, failing to write them.

This must be the female mind, that Cook referred to, in action.

the bellefox, Monday, 3 October 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

i wonder what ally is thinking, really

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

I don't think much. Or I think too much. Perhaps one of those is my problem.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

i've emailed you, ally - kinda.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:28 (twenty years ago)

"I think you think too much, I think..." etc.

The female mind in action? Er, no. More like in inaction. There are some emails that it's better you don't write.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

I don't think much. Or I think too much. Perhaps one of those is my problem.

That'll be the male mind in action.

the bellefox, Monday, 3 October 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

i wonder how my female mind works

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

We should all get together and figure this thing out, someday.

Mandee; the answer is yes. Let's.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm sick of my female mind. I just want someone to love me for my female *body*.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

Morrissey said that.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

MANDEE U MAH BOOOO

orgone accumulator (ex machina), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

N, it worries me somewhat when you get my references. I think it makes me sad and indie or something.

Anyway, I've really had enough of work and I'm going home. To an empty bed. Oh well, enough said.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

(And by "get" I think I mean "call me on")

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 3 October 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)
