He's right, we're so lame.

Homer Simpson (noodle vague), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

What's up with all the asian dudes dating asian chicks? That's what I wanna know.

andy --, Tuesday, 11 October 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

We already did this.

common: "i like to have sex with white chicks, i just dont like to date them"

nabiscothingy, Tuesday, 11 October 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

I met one at my usual monday bar last week. He was cool! We talked about crass and the falklands and eugenics

Jonothong Williamsmang (ex machina), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

isnt it a bit of a contradiction, seeing as dreads are meant to connote black pride? wouldnt a black guy with dreads dating a white woman be like a christian church preacher worshipping at a mosque?

okok, Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

You don't know much about dreadlocks do you? In fact, the technical term for the extent of your knowledge is "fuck all"

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

jon what is your "usual monday bar"???

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

Gallup: Americans Overwhelmingly Favor Interracial Dating Between Dreadlocked Types

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

do educate me please oh please oh dreadlock god

okok, Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

The fact that you made the following statement, "seeing as dreads are meant to connote black pride", hereby procludes you from being sarcastic to anyone anywhere

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

1) Dreadlocks may have at one point automatically = rastafarianism, but now it's basically just a hairstyle for some people same as braids or straightening or hair coloring.

2) Plenty of uber-political black guys have dated and *gasp* even married white women. It's not exactly the most unique event ever.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

Not only does dreadlocks not = Rastafarianism, you don't need dreadlocks to be Rastafarian

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

ok, how about 'seeing as dreads WERE meant to connote black pride'

Says who? (xpost)

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

At least these black guys with dreadlocks can get a date. There's something to be said for that.

Aimless (Aimless), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

"Where's the white women at?"

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't include the "'s".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

Don't tell me, tell Richard Pryor

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

Don't you mean Clevon Little?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

if you are the all knowing dreadlock king you claim to be, tell me the facts you appear to know so well, rather than continuing to bait me.

i know dreadlocks arent unique to rastas, and they have supposedly been worn by people from different countries and cultures, but they were popularised by jamaicans, specifically an early sect of rastafari, which DID preach black pride. or do you disagree?

okok, Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Don't you mean Clevon Little?

Ah but Richard Pryor wrote it (along with Mel Brooks et al)

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

I think I see where you're going wrong, here, okok. Women are not, in fact, religious buildings.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

There's a lot more to Rastafarianism than "black pride"

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Does that mean it is wrong to enter them on Sunday mornings (or at other times if you're not a true Christian?)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Mr. D. Perry, to thread.

It's Wilfull Misreading Day on ILE! (AKA "Tuesday")

(PS: "True" Christians are always entering churches; they volunteer for all kinds of weekday groups and activities.)

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

i know dreadlocks arent unique to rastas, and they have supposedly been worn by people from different countries and cultures,

dude, does the term, "crusty punk"(or its variant spellings) mean anything to you?

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

don't make me post the Gary Oldman in True Romance picture again

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

White people be stupid!

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

xpost - dude, they picked that up FROM rastas, they just decided to wear it without BEING rastas

okok, Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

I think there's a whole section of Being And Time about this

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Where the hell is Ed?

Allyzay knows a little German (allyzay), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

So it's kinda like if you saw a Hassid with a blonde, jesus-piece-wearing bombshell.*

*That would be awesome.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

BTW, as funny as that Onion article is, I don't think William & Mary is much of a frat school. But that's just an impression I got - I could be totally wrong here.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 23:40 (twenty years ago)

five years pass...

isnt it a bit of a contradiction, seeing as dreads are meant to connote black pride? wouldnt a black guy with dreads dating a white woman be like a christian church preacher worshipping at a mosque?
