xpost:

YES. And what was the abortion movie? that is slipping my mind. his range is so completely narrow. I don't think he's Mr. Awful, but I never really enjoy any film he's been in. Certainly The Ice Storm moreso than the others, but still. He has yet to play a character that is, for me, in any way memorable. He's forgettable to me, especially since I don't find him all that attractive (even if he had a nice body in spider man [which was more memorable than he was]).

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 18:57 (nineteen years ago)

I don't find him irritating so much as totally void of interest. Now, Nicholas Cage -- for me he's like chili oil in the eye.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

Dang, Kelsey. My hardest and scariest exam is on Monday so I cannot join you on Sunday.

But Toby Maguire is CUTE. So I forgive his inability to act. It's not like he's ruining otherwise amazing films or plays. He's just action movie eye candy.

You know, credit card companies are a lot nicer to me now that I say things like, "I totally forgot I even used the card and I'm in law school and that's why I didn't pay the $8 balance for two months, but I want to do some Christmas shopping so can you please override the hold on my account?" than when I used to have to say things like, "Look, I know I'm past due but I make maybe $14k/year as a waitress and I need you to override the hold on my account so I can go out and get shit drunk with my friends tonight since I decided to use my tip money for rent this month."

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm, I forgot he was in the Ice Storm. Was the abortion movie Cider House Rules?

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

EL (of 'nasta) wrote me looking for some Minneapolis tips (she's there on business) - she wanted a nice dinner, and I suggested she go my favorite (good for vegetarians too - Kels, you should go for a special romantic somethin' sometime) -

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, what's on Sunday?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

Possible birthday-and-onion-ring celebration with Kelsey.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

Yes. Cider House Rules. I knew it was an Irving novel. Thanks, Jenny! SUNDAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!!! BEER & ONION RINGS TO WHO WANTS 'EM!

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

DAANG, birthday on Sunday, count me in. What time where? Will you email me about this?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:04 (nineteen years ago)

Nothing like starting a thread with an xpost.

For second I thought the cover would be this:

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

Oooh, cover connection!

http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B0007Q6PW4.08.MZZZZZZZ.jpg

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

I sent said email. If no one got one that would like one, it's because you live out of town or I don't have your email.

But, for the record, let's say 6:30 on Sunday at the Edgewater Tavern. That way, it's not like we're out drinkin' too late on a Sunday.

Not that it'll stop JOHN!!!!

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

(Nick, yes, but she's preggo for REALS this time - Also, Jamie thinks you hate him)

YOU GUYS! I'm TIRED AND CRAZY AND DON'T WANT TO BE AT WORK!

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

Also, SOMEONE JUST GAVE ME SOMETHING TO FAX! I don't want to do any work!

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

Neither do I.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

I don't hate Jamie, I'm just really bad at email.

I think we can probably come to your party, Kelsey. Right, Sarah? We're not doing anything on Sunday, right? Except maybe recording, I guess.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

Sarah, you could answer my LJ MEME.

Kelsey, if you think there's a possibility you might want to come to one of the Mpls shows, let me know so I can try to put you on the guest list.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

let me chat with the leafster about it tonight (unless it's too short of notice for you). i have no idea what he has in mind for this weekend. granted, he's a poor, busy law student so the default answer is "nothing" (where a cheap night out would be warmly welcomed), but there is always the hope that he has something up his sleeve. if that's the case, i hope it's all romantical & stuff.
whew! that was long & rambly!!!

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:25 (nineteen years ago)

and also, thanks for thinking of that! so thoughtful!!! so sweet!!

kelsey (kelstarry), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

BO-RED.

Still trying to rewrite lyrics for the same song I've been trying to rewrite lyrics for for like 3 months. Why so dum?

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:51 (nineteen years ago)

Hi,

I will be in Chicago in two weeks, either on Thursday 22nd night or for the day (until early evening) on Friday 23rd. I'm quite happy to walk around on my own and take photographs, also to check and see if Reckless still have a cheap copy of Wisconsin Death Trip, but I felt it would probably be impolite of me not to at least mention it.

Hope you're all doing well.

Adam

Chino (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

Dear Adam,

I thought we was friends. Why the formality?

Love,
Chicago

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:54 (nineteen years ago)

Eric, What is the name of your song that goes I want to sing Another LIttle Piece of my Heart...?

xpostular - Adam, I am so sorry I won't be here when you will be here. I will be in Le France strengthening familial ties.

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:55 (nineteen years ago)

HI ADAM
I will be out of town from the 21st through the 27th or 28th. Will you feed our cats when you visit?
LOVE NICK

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:56 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha, in order to get my shit together re: lyric writing, I told myself I would point to a word in the dictionary and have to incorporate that word into the lyrics. The word I chose? Tatterdemalion.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

I will be neither in Madison nor Chicago, but in Kansas City, Missouri. Mostly likely eating ribs. For Jesus.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, wtf does that mean?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

Wow... too literate for OSX Dashboard Dictionary.

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

I am fairly confident I will be in town on the 22-23. Call me, boo!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:01 (nineteen years ago)

Main Entry: 1tat·ter·de·ma·lion
Pronunciation: "ta-t&r-di-'mAl-y&n, -'mal-, -'ma-lE-&n
Function: noun
Etymology: origin unknown
: a person dressed in ragged clothing : RAGAMUFFIN

Function: adjective
1 a : ragged or disreputable in appearance b : being in a decayed state or condition : DILAPIDATED
2 : BEGGARLY, DISREPUTABLE

My guess was close, but I assumed that it refers to a demon lion in tattered clothing.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:03 (nineteen years ago)

You should use it, anyway, Nick. It wouldn't have stopped Colin Meloy.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

(Actually, it's fun to imagine Morrissey singing it.)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

Have fun nick and sarah. I'm sorry, I don't feed cats. I usually get my wife to do it.

Jaymc I will call you. I don't have your number.

Chino (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

We will be NOT IN TOWN. Alas!

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

It wouldn't have stopped Colin Meloy.
This is hardly encouraging!

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

Adam, that's okay. I'll e-mail it to you. I think I still have yours.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

It's fun to imagine Morrissey singing just about anything. E.g., "I'd like some pancakes today, pass the Mrs. Butterworths, pass the Mrs. Butterworths."

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

I like the idea of a unilateral non-catfeeding policy. Adam does not negotiate with cats.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

"I'd like some pancakes today, pass the Mrs. Butterworths, pass the Mrs. Butterworths."

Yeah, see, right away I was able to imagine a vocal melody and cadence for this line.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

"Hey, you, big fat pig, you faaaat pig"
Morrissey can sing anything.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

Me, too, and it immediately became my new favorite song because I love El Moz and nobody can take that away from me.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

xpost: You're the one for me, fatty!

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

Hey Sarah - That song's 'The Cardinal' - named after:
http://www.cardinaltavern.com/

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:17 (nineteen years ago)

The last time I was in Santull0's they were playing the Smiths. Let me tell you, that was some morose pizza.

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

i can imagine a surly 19 year old vegan who cuts her own hair playing "meat is murder" while some poor soul tries to enjoy a slice of pepperoni in the corner.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you, Eric.
I'm listening to Shelly Sh0rt's downloadable songs at my desk now.

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

OMG I can't stick around for all this Morrissey mockery.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:24 (nineteen years ago)

i am NOT mocking Morrissey! i would never do such a thing.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

I imagine you as being amused on an almost hourly basis during your visit.

But I suppose it was a novelty for me to have a REAL LIVE AMERICAN CHEERLEADER living in the room next to me. I got her to make me my own cheer, which was really quite good.

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

Was it better than "Adam in Real Life"?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah because it had movement as well as sound. It was more of an experience than a distraction. And it was open-ended, as all good art should be.

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:26 (nineteen years ago)

I mean it was basically just her spelling out my name and doing some jiggling.

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

this all sounds so sexually underage.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

Errrr...how do you mean?

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

Like, illegal?

I don't think it was?

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

::drools::

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

People still drool over cheerleaders? I thought that would be too mainstream-cleavage for men like yourselves.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:33 (nineteen years ago)

I bet she was a cute college cheerleader, though. Not like a Laker Girl.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

Amanda, you may be overlooking the fact that their eyes just skipped to "cleavage" and didn't register any of those other silly, unnecessary words.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Don't try and salvage your indie cred out of this now.

xpost

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway I think indie cheerleaders are called "groupies".

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

I've heard of Da Yoopers. Also I've always wanted to visit the U.P. To drive across it, actually. It is not quite as intense as my Sask dreams, though, so I haven't gone around and done it yet.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

I remember being surprised at all the British people who said "hiya" as a greeting.

I say this! Then again, my mom's real-live Oirish/Lancashire-ish, so I've picked up a bit from her. I also say "garr-idge," with the occasional mid-Western "guh-RAHJ". Depends on the company I'm in, I think.

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, that is a working chainsaw powered by a V8.

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

I bet she was a cute college cheerleader, though. Not like a Laker Girl.

All I know is that she was from Alaska.

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

What about Gaa'-raghe? I heard people say that too in England. Maybe that's just Suvnahs.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

Also, the road in the background there is US 41, same as Lakeshore Drive.

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

Alaska!

*swoon*

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:46 (nineteen years ago)

Hey guys: I want to get something to eat. Where's somewhere in Wicker Park/UkV/Bucktown/generically west that's good for a very late lunch?

That isn't Sultan's or Santullo's. Or Cold Comfort.

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

Earwax?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

The summer before last, I almost ended up at the hostel that Jewel's folks still run on the Kenai Peninsula, but I ended up staying in Anchorage instead.

I've only seen Da Yoopers in midwestern diners where each booth gets its own jukebox.

Pontiac used to have good paninis. I like Santullo's.

Eazy (Eazy), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

I thought that would be too mainstream-cleavage for men like yourselves.

Hopefully this lesson will teach you how truly sad ALL men (no exceptions) really are.

Klaus Darko (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:50 (nineteen years ago)

All the cheerleaders at my college were really fit Bio major black girls with muscles that made even me jealous.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:53 (nineteen years ago)

I've learned my lesson. And how.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:57 (nineteen years ago)

Some friends of mine stayed at that hostel. They had some pretty entertaining stories about the place, mostly about how the family tried to screw them over.

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:57 (nineteen years ago)

Bio majors? Random!

I second earwax (veggie soup/stew/ fresh salads/ tea!).

Sarah Kittensmew McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

Boo yah, they're letting me skip the staff meeting so I get to leave work 4EVA at 4:15. Plus they gave me my last paycheck and unused holiday pay and I checked my balance and I'm in better financial shape than I anticipated! DOUBLE BOO YAH!

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 22:01 (nineteen years ago)

i'm officially done with school for the quarter. exactly one week, almost to the hour until i touch down in chicago. i'm excited, especially since i might try to convince my dad to take me to Amitabul when he picks me up from the airport. also, the chance to buy some pants at H&M is strangely appealing. i'm suprised they aren't on the west coast yet.
