kephm (kephm), Monday, 12 December 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 12 December 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

skating with celebrities

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 12 December 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

They did this in the UK last year, it was a bit rubbish. However, we didn't have Debbie Gibson or that dude from Diff'rent Strokes. We had Rowland Rivron and Carol Smillie.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 12 December 2005 02:14 (twenty years ago)

yeah, skating in new york -- been there, done that! i still pay my membership dues to the skating club of new york.

free fact: i have participated in eight rockefeller tree lighting ceremonies! eek!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 12 December 2005 02:19 (twenty years ago)

kidding aside, if they're going to be doing pairs moves like lifts and death spirals and stuff, this could be really dangerous. i mean, accidentally landing a double jump on the wrong foot ended my own career!

out of all the contestants [that i know about], dave coulier has previous skating experience... as a hockey player.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 12 December 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

I liked this show a lot better until I found out, just now, that it features Jillian Barbierie.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 12 December 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

JANUARY 18TH!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 16 December 2005 02:01 (twenty years ago)

Carol Smillie rules.

Mitya (mitya), Friday, 16 December 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
OMG! tonight! now!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 19 January 2006 02:21 (twenty years ago)

so far, so good. much more impressive than i had expected.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 19 January 2006 02:27 (twenty years ago)

poor john nicks -- one of the best coaches in the world and he's being portrayed as the the Bad Guy.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 19 January 2006 02:35 (twenty years ago)

come on people, stop looking at me like that. i know you're watching!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 19 January 2006 02:47 (twenty years ago)

'k, Jillian clearly has a lot more previous skating experience than most of these other celebs.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Thursday, 19 January 2006 02:49 (twenty years ago)

you think? i mean most people can just strap on skates and land single axels like nothing.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 19 January 2006 02:53 (twenty years ago)

I know I can.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Thursday, 19 January 2006 02:59 (twenty years ago)

see, thats what im saying! figure skating is easy!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 19 January 2006 03:01 (twenty years ago)

poor john nicks -- one of the best coaches in the world and he's being portrayed as the the Bad Guy.

And yet he was giving the highest marks!

In the end there was only a four point spread between first and last (what's with the marks out of 10.0 with an unofficial 7.0 baseline anyway?) which is small considering the huge differences in quality.

I thought the show's production values were a bit crap, which I wouldn't normally care less about but that was bugging me here for some reason.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 19 January 2006 03:06 (twenty years ago)

i agree, the set was a bit goofy. maybe if it gets renewed for next season, it will be much nicer.

what was dave coulier thinking?!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 19 January 2006 03:13 (twenty years ago)

Did Coilier do anything? It looked like it was just him going around Kerrigan while she was doing all the jumps and spins...

Tape Store (Tape Store), Thursday, 19 January 2006 03:44 (twenty years ago)

yeah, he didnt do much. bruce jenner really pushed it for the men and jillian barbieri for the ladies...

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 19 January 2006 03:54 (twenty years ago)

this show was a lot of fun! i expected everyone to be pretty much like todd bridges was on the ice. that jillian chick rocked but probably has the advantage of being hot and skating with a model/skating champion. i thought full house guy got way too many points.

you'd think they would have found people with similar skating abilities, though. jillian said something along the lines of dorothy hamill being her hero when she skated as kid and up into her teens. that sounds like a good decade of skating to me. full house plays hockey too.

can you believe todd bridges did a "whatchoo talkin' 'bout"? that wasnt even his line!

anyway, much better than the dancing version for sure.

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 19 January 2006 14:41 (twenty years ago)

I thought it was a big let down. Too much skating, not enough roffles.

RoxyMuzak½ (roxymuzak), Thursday, 19 January 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

We've got this back in the UK just now as well. Captain Jack from Doctor Who is on it! Not enough people falling over for my liking.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 19 January 2006 14:50 (twenty years ago)

I thought it was a big let down. Too much skating, not enough roffles.

i think we're going to see more fireworks in future episodes. the programs were nice, but pedestrian, if not adult version of the exhibition routines i peddled as a child competitor.

i was thinking about this last night and in some ways, its more interesting to see professional figure skaters adapt to complete amateurs, especially if their skating resume does not include previous pairs experience. just speaking from my own personal experience but when i switched over from freestyle to ice dancing, it was a rough couple of months trying to adapt to skating with another person. i discovered my stroking was all wrong, i would constantly try to break away. a mess, yes, but i got through it.

aside from the technicall issues, there's the attitudes. man, you'd think after all the shit nancy kerrigan went through when calling disney "corny", she'd know to keep her comments to herself. she's still such a bitch. bleh.

but tai babilonia? still awesome.
