Another interesting conversation at the smoke pit at work

So, I work for a government agency...where TOMBOT used to work. Before he sold out. (Just to set the scene)

There is a dude here who never talks to anyone...but today he did. He talked to this one older black lady who reminds me of Aunt Jemimah, the syrup lady. She asks him how his weekend went and he begins to talk. He mentions how he and the "Agency KD Crew" did a couple shows as they usually do on the weekend. At this point, im not interested and kind of daydream in the corner. What got my attention was his mentionings about lip gloss and knee high boots.

KD = Kross Dressing

There is a NSA Kross Dressing Crew. Yes.

Ok, this might not be worth mentioning to some of you. But on a monday morning with a splitting headache from too much wine last night...my mind is blown. I dont know why. He has a rainbow lanyard; it all makes sense now.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

So that's where Kiki and Herb get their political edge.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 December 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

I dont know who those people are, but sure.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

are you capable of a non racist thread?

$#@!, Monday, 19 December 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

I dont see how thats racist. But if it is, then I guess not.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

well the aunt jemimah thing might be funnier coming from somebody who i dont associate with mocking black nationalists, saying that iranians "deserve to die", and calling katrina survivors greedy/stupid/whatever

$#@!, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

to be honest i did laugh at 'are there black realtors' though

$#@!, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

Aunt Jemimah = A 70 year old lady that wears the old school frilly dresses to work, 2 in thick glasses, and calls everyone "child".

And if you're argument is regarding the word "black", then dont ever call me "white".

PC nonsense out of hand, once again.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

"aunt jemimah" = a pretty loaded term even if you didn't intend it to be.

bob abernethy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

I mock everyone, to include black nationalists that take themselves too seriously.

I dont recall saying iranians "deserve to die". If you can pull that quote up, id appreciate it and correct myself.

And yes, there are indeed *some* greedy and stupid Katrina survivors. If you dont read the fine print on just about anything, you're asking for trouble - that doesnt only apply to New Orleans residents. The case in which you are refering to that I commented on...they were stupid.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

*used the wrong your/you're

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

The impetus for Aunt Jemima comes from a minstrelsy/vaudeville song of the same name. Chris L. Rutt of the Pearl Milling Company saw the song being sung by blackface performers Baker & Farrell wearing an apron and kerchief, and appropriated the character.

Aunt Jemima is depicted as a plump, smiling, bright-eyed black woman, originally wearing a kerchief over her hair. Originally, she was represented as a slave and was the most commonplace representation of the stereotypical "mammy" character.

...

The phrase "Aunt Jemima" is sometimes used as a female version of Uncle Tom to refer to a black woman who is obsequiously servile.

The 1950s television show Beulah came under fire for depicting a mammy-like black maid and cook who was somewhat reminiscent of Aunt Jemima. Today, "Beulah" and "Aunt Jemima" are more or less interchangeable as terms of disparagement.

Iranian Shit Talk

$#@!, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

You could have just described her as a "woman" that looks like aunt Jemima. Or not bothered at all since it seems totally irrelevant to the story. Which also seemed irrelevant.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

I guess I forgot to use my sarcasm font.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

...

I fucking hate people who take ILE seriously.

Hi Matt!

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

It was also in regards to the president of an insane country suggesting that Israel be wiped off the map and relocated. I found the joke borderline appropriate. But in the context of what President Ahmadinejad said, it made sense.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

So would the guy make a good crossdresser, or what? We're missing most of the vital details here.

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

He had nice calves. But the face of a road-worn cross country biker.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Doesn't the government frown on cross dressing and gayness and etc? Or is that just the military?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

Thats just the military. The government cannot take a stance on it, legally speaking. But that doesnt really matter...no one here cares as long as they get the job done, or know who to blame shortfalls on.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm not saying anyone SHOULD care. So weird though. There's a whole NSA crew of trannies? That's kind of awesome. Do they fight crime in drag? Cos that sounds like the basis of a great movie.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Starring Sandra Bullock and Nia Vardalos.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Yeah if the government was gonna start frowning on being totally gay then they'd probably also have to take a stance on the 600 lb. man who works there, with those pants that could be used as a dwelling for nomads in any other context.

I blame suburban maryland for turning Spink into a bigot.

TOMBOT, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

That was my point I guess. That there was an organized group of trannies that do shows in the DC/Baltimore metro area that ALL work here at the agency.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

Huk, that really wasn't very funny.

xpost how do you think they came to find each other at the agency?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

At a karaoke bar.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

And no, Im not touching the Morgan Freeman thread.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

dude just to backpedal i think youre a decent guy and im all about more southerners & ex military on ile instead of the 100000th britpop IT guy or failed canadian stand-up, you just got this almost european tuomasian way of not getting racial shit

$#@!, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

So, I work for a government agency... / There is a NSA Kross Dressing Crew.

Nice way to keep it secret. :-)

StanM (StanM), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

'european way of not getting racial shit' = 'american way of not getting class shit'

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

no i think i get class shit

$#@!, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

Dude how is calling unnamed and unethnicized people who "accidentally" misappropriated funds given to them for an explicit purpose and then demanded more money "stupid" an example of not getting racist shit? I mean, bitches were stupid, what can you say about that? You can't take a govt check marked "FOR PURCHASING HOUSING" and go use it at the Walmart on clothes and then expect they'll give you more, as an awful lot of people on regular welfare can tell ya. If they find out, they cut you. If yr too dumb to read it, then you're fucking dumb, no matter what your circumstances are or whether you are white or black.

I'm not touching the Iranian thing other than in the context of the thread you totally overreacted. SURPRISE.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I mean shit I'd like to use a WIC card to purchase cigarettes but it's illegal, ya know?

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

overreacted? you mean by posting about the iranian condom factory?

$#@!, Monday, 19 December 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

no I mean on this thread, calling it some example of "racism"

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 19 December 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

If yr too dumb to read it

well, that goes into education issues...

fuck it. you know, it's hard being a "liberal" because i want to help people and yet there truly are a lot of idiots out there.

bob abernethy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 19 December 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

so, should, like, the nsa spy on itself?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 19 December 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

so, should, like, the nsa spy on itself?

Meh. We'd find a way to fuck something up while doing it.

And i wasnt trying to keep it a secret. It really doesnt matter...im an IT guy that has shit to do with anything important. In fact im part of the horse's ass end of the whole organization. Its all a joke.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

I can see the Jemimah comment being slightly racist without providing context. In my mind the connection was there without racial context. She after all looked like Jemimah.

I guess I should have said..."she looks like Condaleeza Rice if she were 20 years older, weighed about 200 pounds more, had on a moomoo, thick glasses, and had a very thick southern style accent." But if I did that, it would have been lost in the description.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

This is funny, I didn't know Tombot worked for them. I have a relative who sometimes works on computer stuff at that agency and an other government agency. Maybe you should googleproof some stuff here though.

dar1a g (daria g), Monday, 19 December 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

I think that Spink was thinking more of Mrs. Butterworth than Aunt Jemimah.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 19 December 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

mrs. butterworth?!??

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 19 December 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Google proof what? That a group of trannies work for a government agency?

Hell, that demographic makes up 90% of the Department of Justice. And thats a documented fact.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

why would KD = Cross Dressing?

jed_ (jed), Monday, 19 December 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

Welcome to the dumbing down of the 21st century by pop culture. Its cool to mispell things...and even more so when you're wearing your mother's nighty.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

or rather, why would people make an acronym of Kross Dresser?

jed_ (jed), Monday, 19 December 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

I dunno dude, I try not to post stuff about my work, and my work isn't even in the surveillance business.

Anyhow, cross dressers =/ gay, necessarily.

$#@!!, Monday, 19 December 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

But Im not making this up. It came out of the dude's mouth. I was 5 feet away and heard the whole conversation. Its not like I heard 3 words and then hypothesized...im really just repeating the words out of dude's mouth.

And I never said gay.

Spink, Monday, 19 December 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

I know, I was just saying, uh, I don't know why really.

dar1a g (daria g), Monday, 19 December 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Mrs. Butterworth. That's the syrup lady.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Monday, 19 December 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

is mrs. butterworth black or white, i wonder?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 19 December 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

re: gay, brought up because somewhere there was a mention of a rainbow flag in the office which struck me as a hilarious image knowing the sheer number of uniformeds running around that building!

fuck it. you know, it's hard being a "liberal" because i want to help people and yet there truly are a lot of idiots out there.

yeah that's basically the point I was making, whatchoo gonna do, I mean we can argue education but that one was really a no-brainer. I mean in all honesty I don't feel these people are getting the aid they deserve/require but you can't fuck up the aid you DO get cos it just gives the gov't a chance to fuck you (and everyone else! more importantly cos most people aren't that kind of stupid!)

also DC intel corporate lifestyle has a huge, hideous building named after a tranny, google proofing is unnecessary!

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 19 December 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I've ever worked with anyone who performs drag shows, sadly.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 19 December 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

I don't think I do either, but there was some Scissor Sisters love expressed, so perhaps someone here attends them on occasion.

dar1a g (daria g), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

black or white, mrs. butterworth is hot

u saved me (dubplatestyle), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

but is she a drag queen, is a more pertinent question.

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Is she supposed to be married to Uncle Ben?

remy (x Jeremy), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

she and mrs. dash were america's first high-profile lesbian couple
