I saw episode two being taped and it was excellent, at least on par with the best of Black Books.
I think it will be the show that makes Richard Ayoade into a (deserving) star.
Chris Morris is excellent in it too.

I hope it is at least as good as Hippies. (Actually, it is a good premise for a trad sitcom of the BB/FT style so am looking forward).
Bring back good "laugh-tracks" (they were always from a studio audience anyway). I never had a problem is the sit was right.

the person who did technical consultancy popped up on the slashdot thread about it. said they had real geeks dressing the set and making sure all the references were ok. he says they did a good job.

I thought it was pretty weak (though the aforementioned set design is amazingly detailed - down to the Dan Clowes' Pogeybait action figure on the Robert Pollard lookalike's desk). Don't know that I'd watch it again.
― T/S: Pinks/Oki Dog/Scoobys/Tail o' the Pup (Bent Over at the Arclight), Friday, 27 January 2006 23:47 (nineteen years ago)
The jokes are apallingly lazy, and that is the world's worst Dylan Moran impersonator. It does get better as it (the episode) goes on, mind.
― Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 27 January 2006 23:57 (nineteen years ago)
Morris is CJ; Father Ted-style edgeless silly; live audience not a bad thing - never seemed to hinder my enjoyment of Porridge or Ever Decreasing Circles; blah blah blah.
But, I killed the online version after 8 minutes cos I felt bad watching something new without the missus.

I read somewhere that Linehan wanted him mainly for his slightly bizarre way of speaking. Matt Berry was better than him as Dixon Bainbridge in Boosh though (Ayoade was Bainbridge in the pilot - which had a laugh track OH NO!)
Darkplace had some good moments too.

If I had something better to do, I wouldn't have watched all of this. As it were, it was 1/2 an hour well spent, since I now know that this is a rubbish show, with paper-thin acting, rehashed stereotypes masquerading as characters, and the worst comedy script I've experienced outside of Last of the Summer Wine. I laugh easily, and for me to go the entire time without laughing once is quite a feat. The girl was okay in it (I can see what you mean about her part being under-written) but she still didn't elicit so much as a smile from me.
I don't have a problem with a laughter track, I have a problem with rubbish shows. And I cannot stress this enough - this is a rubbish show.
Charlie, you really aren't missing anything.

I mean, Kevin Eldon maybe could have worked extensively with a French dialogue coach before tackling the role and possibly Graham Linehan should have paid greater attention to the economic circumstances that lead to some countries having a heavy call centre presence than others...
― tom d: he did what he had to do now he is dead (Tom D.), Saturday, 31 July 2010 13:39 (fourteen years ago)
I won't abide anyone bad mouthing Eldon, by the way.
― rhythm fixated member (chap), Saturday, 31 July 2010 13:40 (fourteen years ago)
i don't know, i think it's important to get the little details right. e.g. the gags about the food at heston blumenthal's restaurant which weren't anywhere near what they could have been and the peddle-stool/damp squid joke which it seemed to me would have been better integrated into the storyline. also the richmond as a witness thing ending with "oh no, that's not her" was v poor.
― jed_, Saturday, 31 July 2010 13:58 (fourteen years ago)
would have been better integrated into the storyline in the previous series', i mean.
see, i liked the fake food jokes.
i blame the writer for KE's poor showing, he's usually better than that. (pope + whoopie cushion = francis bacon painting comes to mind)

Roy's really hit his stride this series.
― rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 2 August 2010 15:03 (fourteen years ago)
the last episode was a little weaker but was saved by matt berry's line readings ... the way he was addressing the judge in the courtroom scenes killed me
so is this series/season over now? (ie was this another 6-episode series)?
― congratulations (n/a), Monday, 2 August 2010 15:07 (fourteen years ago)
that was last one, yes.
― koogs, Monday, 2 August 2010 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

The revival in this thread prompted me to give this show another chance last night and dear god it is poor. You get better writing/acting/gags on Ceebeebies for pity's sake.
― Stevie T, Monday, 2 August 2010 15:39 (fourteen years ago)
the last episode was particularly poor
― cozen, Monday, 2 August 2010 15:41 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah I didnt much care for that last episode. The plot was ridic thin and the jokes way too diluted. I love Richmond but his cameo was really ... pointless (tho goth2boss was kind of amusing).
― Gumbercules (Trayce), Monday, 2 August 2010 21:44 (fourteen years ago)
will probably always watch IT Crowd because of Moss, the Reynholms (both have been great) and because some of the writing is really great but I do feel it's really let down by Roy and Jen as well as some really, really awful jokes that remind me of execrable 90s pre-watershed sitcoms - i'm thinking Thin Blue Line or The Upper Hand sort of level.

― A B C, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 01:17 (fourteen years ago)
did i just get suckered into basically watching 20 episodes of the big bang theory because of british accents?
nah, this is way better than BBT. if it was just 'lol nerdz' it wouldn't be worth the time, but there's at least one or two great episodes per series
― Nhex, Tuesday, 3 August 2010 02:52 (fourteen years ago)

Jim also right about the type of vibe- tho I'd argue it's closer to The Brittas Empire than his examples. Which is a pretty damning indictment.

rab florence and iain connell of video gaiden and burnistoun "fame" are going to be on the writing team of the next series of IT Crowd. although i thought burnistoun was very hit and miss i generally find them funny and look forward to what their input might bring.
