you know while watching this i noticed an abundance of 60's/hippie-era references in this movie. also i find it striking that the film is
ultimately about resistance to peer pressure (vampirism=drugs, obviously).

is it possible this film is an oblique conservative commentary on the decades-long fallout from the permissive 60's counterculture and its supposed negative effects on reagan-era youth?

after all, it is wily old Grandpa, the seemingly crazy member of the Greatest generation, who saves the day in the end. are the filmmakers trying to tell us something?

I love how two of the biggest things that this film was trying to set up -- Jason Patric as a star and Charlie Sexton as a music star -- never got much more famous than this. (Patric's had one erratic career...)

Does Lost Boys work better as an 80s horror-comedy or an 80s teen movie?

I would say it's more of a teen movie, I am very easily frightened by horror movies but I can't think of a moment that was truly scary.

I probably watched this 20 times on cable when it first came out, I wonder how badly it has aged.

Watched this with friends last weekend. Fun on so many levels, and it looks gorgeous.

I'm sorry that back in 2011 I tried to force a conversation about Lost Boys 3 that nobody was ready to have.

Oiled-up saxophone dude is apparently a touring artist. I kind of regret not going to see a show he played locally.

In the Lost Boys commentary Schumacher says at the time the movie was made, he was touring with Tina Turner!

I saw this movie probably a dozen times on cable back in the late 80s-early 90s, and from that time until today I had forgotten about oiled-up saxophone dude.

Two of my childhood friends got him to record a Cameo video for their anniversary.

It was rambling and weird but I am sure it was worth every penny.

Does he hold a sax? He does. Does he wear a chain? He does. Does he wear a shirt? No, he does not.

I think we need to take a moment to recognize the greatness of the title of this thread.

it is indisputable for sure. the film is the perfect distillation of all previous vampire media and the wellspring of all subsequent vampire media. the great vampire media nexus.

i mean i don’t think i’ve ever watched it all the way thru but from the parts i remember seeing on tv ~25 years ago, i assume that’s what it is
