Funny I was in a bar on Sunday afternoon and ALL of the songs played were glorifying terrorism

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

Terrible songs mind you. At least if you're glorifying terrorism you might bother to write a winning melody.

Samson had seen the temple of Dagon years earlier and knew how it had been constructed, its enormous weight bearing upon two tall round pillars in the center. As Samson stood between the pillars the people laughed at him and spat on him. He prayed to the LORD God, "Oh, God, please be with me one more time. Allow me to avenge my people who are held in bondage by these people who worship a false and worthless god. Let your name be avenged."

Samson stretched his mighty arms around the two pillars and pulled with all of his great strength which had returned. The temple crashed around him with dust and huge stones falling onto the heads of Samson and the people who were worshipping the false god Dagon. All of the powerful political, military and spiritual leaders were present in the temple and they also were killed. Samson died in the destruction along with 3,000 Philistines.

Selling all sweets, selling all socks.
Ain't done nuffink bad, He ain't done nuffink bad.
Papers all say; "What a silly old sod".
Ain't done nuffing wrong, He ain't done nuffink bad.

Flogging all crisps, all knocked off brollys,
Lovely old guy, nice old guy.
Helping all kids, all watering gardens,
Telling all stories, all nine to five.

By hook or by crook, he's an innocent man!
If anyone can do it man, Hamza can!
Abba-dabba-do, I'm his biggest fan!
If anyone can do it , Uncle Abu can!

By hook or by crook, he's an innocent man!
If anyone can do it man, Hamza can!
Abba-dabba-do, I'm his biggest fan!
If anyone can do it, Uncle Abu can!

Nice Kosher burgers, all Easter eggs,
Twice as nice, very good price.
Abu's stall, was a f*cking gem!
Fresh jerk chicken, all peas all rice.

Don't call him a tosser, don't call him a git!
Get off his hat you f*cking prick!
Abu lunch special is, BLOODY LOVELY!
Abu's ok, don't cal him a d*ck.

By hook or by crook, he's an innocent man!
If anyone can do it man, Hamza can!
Abba-dabba-do, I'm his biggest fan!
If anyone can do it, Uncle Abu can!

By hook or by crook, he's an innocent man!
If anyone can do it man, Hamza can!
Abba-dabba-do, I'm his biggest fan!
If anyone can do it, Uncle Abu can!

Good fish sarnie, all plaster cats,
No bric-a-brac, no rubbish like that.
Me and Sates, used to meet him for a beer,
Now he's lock down, we just phone for a chat.

Selling all bibles, selling all porn.
The guy's been trading, since 84.
But if you want a bicycle, go else where!
Abu thinks bikes, are against the law?!

By hook or by crook, he's an innocent man!
If anyone can do it man, Hamza can!
Abba-dabba-do, I'm his biggest fan!
If anyone can do it, Uncle Abu can!

Seriously though - I cannot believe this legislation...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4715478.stm
"[critics] also point out such laws could have led to people being arrested in the 1980s for supporting Nelson Mandela's fight against apartheid in South Africa. These claims are rejected by the Home Secretary Charles Clarke, who told MPs such circumstances as the anti-apartheid movement would not happen again."

Ha! I mean it would be funny if it wasn't so fcking outrageous. And this is the Home Secretary! It makes me want to cry.

The BLASPHEMOUS thread

Too Gay for America (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, fuck the guys who lived across from me when I was in Leeds who'd spend every Saturday playing pro-IRA songs at top fucking volume before descending into a massed pitched brawl at around 4am in the morning.

It seems quite fucking dumb to be a vigorous supporter of the IRA, and then move to England, no?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:01 (nineteen years ago)

Is this in relation to some kind of UK anti-sedition law then? They're threatening to pass similar here, it is a fucking joke. Can't diss the parliament or the head of state huh? HEY QUEENY, SIT ON IT. etc.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:04 (nineteen years ago)

It would be a joke however it has passed - this afternoon by 30 something votes. No-one can expalin (at least no-one I heard on the radio to-day) how this is going to work, how they are going to distinguish between support for groups who oppose repressive regimes but whose supporters may be involved in terrorism for instance. It will be very interesting to see if this law is ever used.

Blair visited Nelson Mandela only two days ago...

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:17 (nineteen years ago)

Dear hero imprisoned
With all the new crimes that you are perfecting
Oh, I can't help quoting you
Because everything that you said rings true
And now in my cell
(Well, I followed you)
And here's a list of who I slew

Reggie Kray - do you know my name ?
Oh, don't say you don't
Please say you do, (oh) I am :

The last of the famous
International playboys
The last of the famous
International playboys
And in my cell
(Well, I loved you)
And every man with a job to do
Ronnie Kray - do you know my face ?
Oh, don't say you don't
Please say you do, (oh) I am :

The last of the famous
International playboys
The last of the famous
International playboys

In our lifetime those who kill
The newsworld hands them stardom
And these are the ways
On which I was raised
These are the ways
On which I was raised

I never wanted to kill
I AM NOT NATURALLY EVIL
Such things I do
Just to make myself
More attractive to you
HAVE I FAILED ?

Oh...

Oh, the last of the famous
International playboys
The last of the famous

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 15 February 2006 23:29 (nineteen years ago)

The legislation threatens a five-year jail sentence for anyone glorifying a terrorist act committed over the last 20 years.

Blair glorified "Shock and Awe" didn't he? So can we send him to prison for it now?

The small print said the home secretary would draw up a list of historical terrorist acts that it would be a criminal offence to glorify.

Ah, they've got a little list, and Shock and Awe won't be on it. Clever, boys, clever! Just like your condemnation of suicide bombing, but not all bombing.

Momus (Momus), Thursday, 16 February 2006 00:05 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know if the Krays were terrorists, exactly.

Wonder what this will mean for the release of V For Vendetta. Besides extra hype.
