C/D: Following your dreams

It works out in movies and TV shows, but is following your dreams really a good idea? Is it better to just say fuck it and go to law/busisness/graduate school? Following dreams has paid of handsomely for some people, but for others it's been a disaster.

Good idea or not?

i always say following your dreams is fine as long as you can visualise possibly failure and be ok with what you see. if you cant, then you need to calm the fuck down.

I don't think law/b/grad school neccesarily equal the road to success these days.

It something truly is your dream, then you will have no choice but to follow it. Ended up a disaster for me in many ways, but I had so much fun trying I don't regret a minute of it.

being practical is generally a good idea, but some people's ideas about what "success" means scare the piss out of me. if you have dreams, follow 'em, but don't worry about following anyone else's psycho dreams.

Following your dreams is always classic in the broadest terms. Sometimes you have to fail a few times, or take a wide detour, or just settle for a variation, but that's true of every goal you set - even the most hard-boiled "practical" goals. So, since you're going to flail and struggle and fail a certain amount anyway, why not aim for a goal that worth the effort - even if you have to start at it obliquely?

the best thing to do is to combine the dream with the practical.
be practical and in the meantime, try to make the dream come true.(after work...)

OPENING SCENE OF "XANADU"
Graphic Artist crumples up drawing and tosses it out the window, saying, "Oh well...guys like me shouldn't dream anyway!"

The drawing comes to life and Olivia Newton John helps him realize his dream: opening a roller disco.

I guess that means classic, double-classic if Olivia Newton John is on your side.
