Ken C says it is.

Well what he says is that 'if the lass doesn't fancy you it doesn't really matter if you are all like poetry and whatsit. whereas if you're like hott then you know. talk about weather.'

dirtyden-c, Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:24 (twenty years ago)

Only if you're talking about hott weather, I presume.

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:26 (twenty years ago)

Ken C says it is.

While I do wuv Ken, Hitch he ain't.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:30 (twenty years ago)

You can turn a "maybe" to a "yes" with good conversation. But most "chatting up" is not good conversation. :-/

Boris and the Johnsons (kate), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:31 (twenty years ago)

see, andrew loves me despite what i say isn't hitch

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:31 (twenty years ago)

I fancy people based on what they say, so the answer is no.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:32 (twenty years ago)

so "is chatting up people more than or equal to about if they fancy you than what you say" would be true then

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:33 (twenty years ago)

anyway tuomas you fancy people based on whether they stick their hands down your pants, if i remember correctly!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:33 (twenty years ago)

"But most "chatting up" is not good conversation. :-/ "

i beg to differ

dirtyden-c, Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:33 (twenty years ago)

yeah, only if you define "chatting up" as the bad conversation.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:34 (twenty years ago)

because like chatting up isn't always "hiiiiiiii love your bra!!"

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:35 (twenty years ago)

(i like how i'm totally obviously an expert in this!!!)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:36 (twenty years ago)

chatting up can be extremely fun conversation and it can also be 'hiiii i love your knickers'

dirtyden-c, Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:36 (twenty years ago)

anyway tuomas you fancy people based on whether they stick their hands down your pants, if i remember correctly!

Arousal isn't the same as fancying!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:37 (twenty years ago)

only if you define "fancying" as non-arousal fancying.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:39 (twenty years ago)

I fancy people based on what they say

You are a liar, and I call 100000000000000 of your previous posts to prove it.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:40 (twenty years ago)

mark not telling the truth isn't the same as lying!!!!!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:42 (twenty years ago)

We're fucking PROGRAMMED to fancy people for what they look like, and regardless of Finland's warped moral ideas I refuse to believe that perpetually-randy Tuomas bases his horn entirely on conversation.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:43 (twenty years ago)

What 100000000000 posts? As I said, to me fancying is different than finding someone hot (and even finding someone hot has a lot to with personality). If I'm chatting up with someone and find her opinions to be totally contrary to mine, I definitely won't fancy her.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:46 (twenty years ago)

i'm sure if they find you pleasing to the eye and you can string a sentence together you'll be ok.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:46 (twenty years ago)

Approaching someone in a tricky situation.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:47 (twenty years ago)

If I'm chatting up with someone and find her opinions to be totally contrary to mine, I definitely won't fancy her.

i think the point being made really is the inverse, like, if you think she is UGMO then you probably won't shag her even though she loves your opinions. whereas, if she is hotttt omg okay you agree with one thing with me that'll do.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:49 (twenty years ago)

(i'm exaggarating slightly here to make it simple to understand)

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:50 (twenty years ago)

About that thread: note that I state it on the start that it was a superficial crush, and besides, the fact that she was on that course (and what she spoke there) already told me something about her. And I did meet her and talk with her, and based on that I realized I didn't fancy her after all.

Christ, I'm not saying that looks don't matter at all, but it's a lot about style (which usually reflects one's personality), and even then I won't fancy a person if I find what she says unappealing.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:54 (twenty years ago)

If I'm chatting up with someone and find her opinions to be totally contrary to mine, I definitely won't fancy her.

Because I hate myself, I'm kind of the opposite. I refuse to put my member in any club that would allow me to.

Mike W (caek), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Note: am not rapist.

Mike W (caek), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:55 (twenty years ago)

Why is ILE all about pulling people in bars today?

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)

the point of this thread (i think) is still whether if you find the looks and style of the other person unappealing whether you'd still fancy her even if she says all the right things.

xxxpost

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:58 (twenty years ago)

should have been him/her but i was talking to tuomas really there.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 13:59 (twenty years ago)

I would fancy someone that looked like a tramp, I think, if they said really amazing things. Because there are hot people everywhere, but hardly anyone ever says anything really amazing.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:04 (twenty years ago)

There aren't that many people I find absolutely unappealing appearance-wise. Besides, people will start to look more (or less) pretty once you talk with them, because their personality becomes part of their appearance, and you can't judge them on a superficial level anymore. But yeah, if someone who's absolutely unappealing to me would said the right things to me I might still not fancy her, but that is rarely the case.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:11 (twenty years ago)

Although actual tramps don't really tend to say that much amazing stuff. They generally stick with "Can you spare some change mate?" or just make a vague growling sound.

James Ward (jamesmichaelward), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:14 (twenty years ago)

actually several people i fancied in the past looked like tramps (but in a nice way)

it's been a while since i've met anyone who said anything amazing to me.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:16 (twenty years ago)

I knew a tramp once with a public-school accent that always wanted to talk about literature.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

did you find out how it was that he became a tramp?

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:18 (twenty years ago)

I'm quite sad I never made friends with the tramp I always used to see in Manchester who would walk around carrying a white rabbit.

James Ward (jamesmichaelward), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:21 (twenty years ago)

yall could chill beatin down tuomas when hes actually right for 1nce

,,,,,,,,,,, Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:24 (twenty years ago)

No. He wasn't really very interesting. He smelled terrible. I don't really know whether he was actually a tramp, he probably had a home somewhere, but he was *always* (I saw him practically ever day) wandering around the town centre pestering girls and trying to engage me in conversation about Evelyn Waugh or something. And when I worked in Oxfam, he would always come flouncing in and put a filthy two pence piece in my hand and say something about the virtues of charity. My friend Jenny told me he did the exact same thing to her, when she was working in a bookshop with a charity box on the counter. He insisted in putting the dirty pennies right into your hand. He obviously found them on the floor.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:25 (twenty years ago)

Sounds like quite a catch.

James Ward (jamesmichaelward), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:26 (twenty years ago)

I should maybe revise my earlier statement: I would fancy someone who looked like a tramp, if they said really amazing things, *unless* they smelled like a tramp too. I don't think I could handle that.

The tramp didn't call himself a tramp. He introduced himself to me as a writer. Once my sister saw him in the garden next to the library snogging a tramp lady! Maybe she thought he was a catch.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:31 (twenty years ago)

there was that bible story about how this tramp who gave all their very little possessions for charity vs the rich man who gives lots more in value but not as much as a percentage.

actually that may have been from statistics class.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:33 (twenty years ago)

I did this soup run for a while and there was this service user who travelled around Jordan on holiday. How does a homeless person get a room for the night? Getting arrested for vagrancy = free bed and board!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:33 (twenty years ago)

she also believed in the virtues of charity

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:34 (twenty years ago)

there is the one about the camel trying to fit through the eye of a needle and getting stuck too. I think that's relevant here.

right you are, squire...

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Ooo and in response to the question it all depends. Cop out answer I know but think:

a) I am pissed, he is talking to me. He is hott he has size 11 feet. I will have him.

b) I am sober, it is quiet and he is talking to me. He is funny, while not normally what I go for he has surprised me with his insightful comments. I will have him.

Him = me obviously. There are times where people want to meet people and times when people want to meet genitals.

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 22 February 2006 14:42 (twenty years ago)

i much prefer people in winter clothing so i definitely agree with that statement

Wow, I remember that guy. The rabbit was massive.
