Well, outside flyering anyway. I didn't see or hear anything about a stabbing, but I did see some racist guy who was beaten within an inch of his life get carried out and laid onto the ground right in front of me until the ambulance arrived. The event staff guy next to me was a nurse during his day job, and said that there was obvious head trauma.
After that, they said the show would resume, but about half an hour later the first wave of cops went in and it was certain it wouldn't. That was right when everything erupted. I remember 7 or 8 years ago when I went to see the Descendents at the same venue and the show getting broken up. The mostly good crowd didn't really lose control until the police pulled the plug.
While I don't condone the destruction of property, I did see so many ways the police mishandled things and could have done much better.

predictable really

Yeah, you'd think the police would have figured out that stopping the show altogether causes the 99% of the audience who didn't have a problem to begin with to suddenly get angry. And when your options are smashing a police cruiser or going home and writing an angry letter, one tends to choose the most immediate way of showing their dissatisfaction.

Would the police have so cavaleirly pulle dthe plug if this had been a brahms concert!!

dave q (listerine), Sunday, 5 March 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

Some people in the crowd of about 1,500 then started pelting officers with rocks and bottles

Always with the pelting. Can't they figure out a new word?

It would be better if they were pelted with pelts.

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Sunday, 5 March 2006 16:27 (nineteen years ago)

So... if the police wanted to defuse the situation, they should provide pen and paper on site?

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 5 March 2006 16:39 (nineteen years ago)

and lecterns

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 5 March 2006 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

Sometimes I call poontang trim, sometimes I call it pelt.

Never poontang to a woman's face, that's for sure.

"These kids today don't know what a real riot's all about."

Raw, Uncompromising, and Noodly (noodle vague), Sunday, 5 March 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

Lesbians apply poontang to women's face and it seems to work out OK.

Mr Jones (Mr Jones), Sunday, 5 March 2006 17:40 (nineteen years ago)

I thought it was only adviseable when the lips are chapped.

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 5 March 2006 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

Oh wait, that's chapstick, innit? Confusing.

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 5 March 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

"Chapstick" sounds like a stick that chaps carry around, so we're back with those cops beating up punks. (phew! derailment over!)

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 5 March 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

This is why I only go to Lilith Fair.

Super Cub (Debito), Sunday, 5 March 2006 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

for some reason I really like how that one article says "the U.S. state of California"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 5 March 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

If the punks had been more in a state of California, maybe this never would have happened.

Super Cub (Debito), Sunday, 5 March 2006 18:53 (nineteen years ago)

Altamont, dude.
