I have yet to find anything like a quick bite to eat between 12 and 1 downtown. There is no quick at all, only lines, and then more lines. You spend 20 minutes in line most places, and for what? A sandwich. A freakin' sandwich.

I've mentioned this before Kenan, but I used to temp at Wacker and Jackson, and in that building there is the Venice Cafe, which has decent pizza, calzones, salads, and assorted italian entrees at what seemed like decent prices. It's sort of a non-chain version of Sbarro's. They have booze too.

I do not understand why office culture dictates that the women should every now and again bring in some really crappy grocery store brand "treats" for everyone to munch on. Everyone says it's nice, but it strikes me as almost rude. It's like, "Here. I went to the least possible amount of effort for these. Now tell me I'm great and considerate."

I do understand the impulse, I guess. At my last office, there was a produce wholesale place a block away, and sometimes I would come in with $5 worth of fruit, which is enough for everyone. I don't really like champagne all that much. Anything that is alcohol + sweetness + bubbles is generally bad news for my stomach, although rum & cokes have never been a problem. I'm thinking more like wine coolers or cider or drinks of that ilk.

The tortilla. By themselves, flour tortillas are kind of disgusting. I can't really explain this, and I didn't used to feel this way until recently -- but esp. when you take a bite and it's mostly tortilla, yuck.

Man, last day at old job is getting weird. Neither of my bosses is here, so I'm effectively peacing out for them to come in and find me gone. And the other offer was so quick I can't even give two weeks' notice. Best thing about leaving though: not having to talk to/deal with the constantly condescending/crabby/tired African girl I work with. Not that the African part is SO important, but since I dislike her for valid reasons, I can then get irritated by her awkward syllabic stresses.

Eeewww. I'm pretty sure that tortillas, as purchased, are basically half raw, and meant to be cooked or baked or whatev during food prep. This fact is completely unconcealable with corn tortillas which is probably why wraps etc are made with flour ones...but they're not much better.

her eyes is probably my favorite now that i think about it. but cleveland... is sorta different from the rest. more proggy/psyche than most of the other songs. but they've all got a heavy mc-5 influence.

Otto lives a rock star's life. I, like Amanda, cannot. I can manage on less than five hours of sleep two nights in a row if I must but I am an emotional and physical wreck as a result and need excesses of sleep for the next three nights to get back to normal.

i usually don't remember my dreams but i had one right before my alarm clock went off this morning. i was in bed with a friend of mine and i asked her how work was, she said "it was slow all morning then got really busy towards the end" which was exactly what she said to me saturday afternoon when i asked her how work was. then she got up out of bed and went to the living room. i got up too and even though i left the bed seconds after she did the living room was empty. then the alarm went off.

not bad enough i'm not getting any in my waking hours, i've got to strike out in my dreams too.

I don't know what this means. Did you read my post the other day about how I'm striving to get six hours of sleep a night? (Or 30 hours a week, however it balances out.) This has been a challenge for me, since I have a slew of bad habits that have prevented me from getting to bed on time. But I am trying now, because I really do feel happier and more productive when I'm rested. I just need to keep reminding myself of that in the wee hours of the night.

The first day that I only get five or six hours of sleep, I'm ok the next day. I can usually even avoid napping. But the next day, if I don't get my eight hours, I'm a pile of poo. Seven hours for two or three days in a row is barely -- BARELY -- livable. I'd rather not push it, though.

i never get more than 7 hours of sleep. a few days in a row of going out will wear me down (last week or two weeks ago i went out 6 of 7 days and was a f'ing mess) but once in a while is livable.

john, "i'm happy when i get six" and way too easy... me and my boss have this running joke where we can take seemingly innocuous statements and tag on the line "sounds like my prom night" or a variation of that. it was the first thing i thought of when i read your post. yes, mentally i never got past age 14.

Yeah, I get about 7 a night consistently and I'm tired (but not debilitatingly so) all the time, but I make it. It's just that I can't pile on smoky bars and booze and whatever on top of not getting enough sleep. I've kicked whatever bad habits used to keep me up at night, so that's behind me. Now it's mostly obligations that keep me up til 11 or 11:30 and back up again at 6 the next morning.

PS -- Kelsey, that's actually a magical photo of me in the future, when Carl has a new friend. Somehow the future has me wearing socks and sandals, and I just don't see that happening, unless I'm outside drinking my morning coffee or something.

I ran my first race yesterday! A 5K!

If you did this in Mpls, then I'm pretty sure my sis was also in that race.

Thanks for all the turntable info, DUDES, I'll see what I can put together. Nothing fancy, obviously. It is pretty hilarious, though, when you start perusing the audiophile pages. Dudes talk about 3k turntables and 10k electrostatic speakers like nothing, and how you'd have to be a drooling moran to listen to mp3s.
