What was the show, I think it was on MTV, with 4 guys, living in Englund. It was on in the 80's, one was a punker, one had zits all over his face. They partied alot, one went to school, and something or someone always blew up?

The Young Ones totally hasn't aged really really badly.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 4 May 2006 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

it was too then to be now.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 4 May 2006 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

but for those of us who knew then its still good now

worst show ever

sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 4 May 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

although it's a fairly rich source of memes, actually watching it is kind of painful.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Thursday, 4 May 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

it's rather bad

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 4 May 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

i thought i liked it and then i saw it again, a year or two ago, and was aghast.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Thursday, 4 May 2006 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

i still think things like the 'tell that to Roger Bannister' gag were inspired and v clever.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 4 May 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, and the fly on the wall documentary film crew making a documentary about what its actually like to be a fly on the wall

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 4 May 2006 13:39 (nineteen years ago)

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Thursday, 4 May 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

The Young Ones totally hasn't aged really really badly.

Unlike everything you like?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 4 May 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

Well, to pick a sitcom at random, Yes, Minister is two years older than The Young Ones, and it's not embarassing to watch an episode of Y,M anymore. As opposed to watching Mayall et al engage in a load of old fannydangle.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 4 May 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

don't think you need that comma, dude

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 4 May 2006 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

You are correct.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

ye olde tv classic comedies have their points but too often they're filmed radio.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

do you know what that means?

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

yes. they are excellent as script-readings but as television they are poor -- the image quality itself is dire, and there's no visual sensibility in evidence -- no lighting, no camera movement, no editing in any expressive capacity.

the Enrique who acts like some kind of good taste gestapo (Enrique), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

but they're funny

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

Young Ones made more use of visual aspect than other comedies at the time perhaps, inc. the odd subliminal imagery thing that seemed to serve no purpose/connection to what else was going on and was just put in to mess with people. Well why not.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

but it wasn't funny

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 4 May 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

oh shoosh you.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 4 May 2006 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

I know, lets start a thread comparing the Young Ones and the Simpsons!

*flees*
