I wanna talk about ANKLE INJURIES!

Like the one I've got right now that is the same ankle I injured almost exactly 10 years ago, by a mere two months. I feel lucky it healed the first time, I pray my lucky stars will bail me out again, but it seems unlikely. How many times can a person fuck up the same ankle and still walk again/dance to great music like New Order etc.? Is it just the swelling I need to take care of? If I don't keep it elevated it just gets more swollen and numb/painful. It is a bitch to walk around etc and I'm drunk and want to share my misery and get some advice. And ICE feels great on it too.

Ankle Injuries

jergins (jergins), Sunday, 4 June 2006 06:55 (nineteen years ago)

how did you injure it? did you roll the ankle?

See a physiotherpist innit,.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 4 June 2006 06:58 (nineteen years ago)

if you hadn't broken any bones etc it should heel (lol) okay. what you need to do after it's healed is do exercises that strengthen the ankle so you don't re-injure yourself as easily.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 4 June 2006 06:59 (nineteen years ago)

I ran across the street and then when I reached the grass on the other side, I rolled it, yeah, like 90 degrees so that instead of the bottom of my foot hitting the ground, my outer ankle bone side of my foot did. Yeah exercises, that sounds like a great idea.

I just don't want to go to a damn doctor though.

I guess it would have been worse if I had rolled it on the cement instead of the grass.

Has-been Hash Brown (Bimble...), Sunday, 4 June 2006 07:40 (nineteen years ago)

yeah. i did the exact thing, 3 times in 2 years in fact. i finally saw the physio and it was really good actually cos they can determine better whether there's any lasting damage. but she recommended exercises definitely because as your ankle gets weaker after an injury you're much more likely to do the same thing again if you don't get it strengthened again.

That's interesting. Thanks.

jergins' track upthread is pretty good, actually. It's got a Neu! beat, but to me a little more interesting than Neu!

Make sure the ankle has some support while it's healing - get one Tubigrip.

i rolled and popped the same ankle two times in five minutes!

RestIceCompressElevate is always a safe bet initially, then exercises as it's healing with rice(Ha!)-filled bages to follow up.
In college, I popped three tendons on my right ankle playing basketball; hit a jump shot and landed on my toe, which bent backward. About six months in an inflatable cast and on crutches and it's still sore when I run. Careful.

my previously-sprained ankle (2 yrs ago) is killing me this week

I broke my ankle playing football in Australia. I was wearing studs and going into tackles like it was an English pitch in March. Unfortunately, it was an Australian pitch in January, i.e. concrete. I tackled a guy and we both heard a sickening squeaky pop. I looked at him and said, "did you hear that?" then tried to get up and walk away. Then I realised it was my ankle. Within minutes it looked like a bunch of grapes. That was over a year ago, and it's still not the same. Generally weak and uncertain.

Breaking news: twisted my ankle in the shower on Saturday morning.

caek (caek), Sunday, 4 June 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

Pity poor Matt DC, dirty warehouses have broken me

My ankle injury hell, above, almost exactly two years ago. I was pretty much on crutches for a month, it wasn't pleasant. It still occasionally twinges and I'm sure it's still slightly swollen compared to the other one.

My ankle when I got home from the match. It wasn't until I tried to put my shoes on and nearly fainted that I realised I needed to see a doctor after the weekend.

playing basketball in vans(shoes, or vehicles)= ankle hell about twice a month in high school. Don't know what I was thinking.
