Haha, "you like spagettii bolognaise don't you?""er, yeah""good, that means I can pretend I'm being only fair and nice when I hand this invite to the person standing next to you"
(I would prefer the spag bol myself, Suzie has a face like a cadaver and that would put me right off me mince.)

Completely agree with Stone Monkey about Aislene at the end of the last thread. It goes mostly unnoticed but she's slowly showing herself to be one of the nicer housemates. Not a contender for winning but a nice addition to the house.
I don't agree with the people who are saying Endemol screwed up by letting Grace hear the chanting - it's delightfully cathartic to see her in mental turmoil (and no, I have no shame about this - judging on her performance over the past couple of week I'd wager the girl has made countless people suffer in the past and has never been on the receiving end of same). Plus, it's not like Davina will rip her to shreds in the interview so this could be our only chance to watch her squirm.
I imagine the BB producers are cursing Suzie getting in. She's a posh bland mirror-image of Lea and doesn't look likely to cause much in the way of exciting TV. But aren't we due another housemate to replace George? More than anything we need a new alpha-male figure to a) topple Richard, b) woo Imogen, and c) stop the house spiralling into nicey-nice tedium post-Grace.

i've just spent half of "big brain" arguing with mrs fiendish about this ... i absolutely loathe grace, but i'll admit that this is partly because she reminds me of the dreadful overprivilged private-schoolgirls i met at school [1] and then - in frightening numbers - in my first year at university. it took me until i was 19 or so to learn how to deal with them and after that they ceased to upset me so (indeed, i became good friends with several of them), but my inner schoolboy still screams with horror at the very sight of grace (let alone the sound of her voice).
that said, i do stand by the presumption i made in the previous thread: it's obvious she's wafted through life thinking/being told that she's the best thing since sliced ciabatta, and i have no sympathy for anyone who's reached the age of 20 without thinking, hang on a fucking minute, should i actually take some kind of long, hard look at myself? if this is the first time she's actually had to confront the less pleasant parts of her personality/persona, it's fucking WELL overdue.
as for the GBP: a lot of it, naturally, is good ol'-fashioned class envy/hatred, and i'm afraid i just can't work up any kind of sympathy on behalf of a haughty sloane whose mum bought her a fucking £340k flat. this is perhaps immature and pathetic of me, but hey: wasn't one of the loftier ideals of the original BB that it would tell us as much about ourselves and our attitudes as it would about the housemates?
[1] yes, this makes me an overpriviliged private-schoolboy. but in fairness i spent my teenage years hating myself for it and ... oh, never mind ;)
― grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 12 June 2006 21:53 (nineteen years ago)
The Grace/Sezer hatred seems to be about punishing archetypal high school figures from the past rather than the actual people themselves. Sezer is the awful bloke who stole the girl you fancied. Grace is the rich kid who spent the whole of the sixth form blanking you and being miserable despite having it made. Sezer deserved it; I'm not convinced Grace does.
― Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 12 June 2006 22:24 (nineteen years ago)
hmmmm. sort of, but not really. i don't think i've ever met any sezers; i've met plenty of priapic/overly confident/sex-obsessed blokes, but quite often they've become friends (or at least acquaintances) and i've forgiven them their cock-happy ways. but sezer was repulsively fucking smug and insufferably bollock-driven in a way i've never really come across IRL; he truly was in a class of his own.
grace is more of an archetype, yes; and for me personally there are elements of teenage loathing/class hatred in there. but i really don't think the same can be said of the rest of the country ... i mean, it really is very unusual for me to be in step with the rest of the GBP on something like this ;)
i think, at base, it's simply that she's coming across like an arrogant, stirring, two-faced cow ;)

Hairdresser Helen, 28 — famous for saying “Oh, my God” and “I love blinking, I do” — ended the romance after a rocky few months.
She said: “I felt like the Wicked Witch because I was first to say something. Once we started being honest, we realised we get on better as friends.”
The pair, who met on BB2, have sold their home in Barnet, North London, and are renting separate flats.
Paul, 29, admitted last night: “The last couple of months have been hell. But deep, deep down we know we’re making the right decision.
“From the day we met, we’ve never had time apart. We need to find ourselves again.”
The couple had the longest-running BB romance.

from channel4.com:Grace then trudged into the Diary Room and stayed in there for, like, an hour. Crying mostly, but also talking about the reasons anyone could possibly have it in for her.
"They must have portrayed me as some slag or hoochie mamma, I know what girls are like," she said. "But I was just being myself. Maybe I should have been backstabbing like everyone else."
She seemed convinced her low approval rating had something to do with her fling with Mikey and rejected all other possibilities. "Maybe I've been over-bitching but I'm sure I haven't. I don't s***-stir," she said.

This is a 'before nominations' poll result, but the anti-Lisa vote seems overwhelming.
I dunno, Lisa seemed suddenly human this week after the 'drop noms'. half pissed off with Nikki's over-reaction, half genuinely trying to make it up to her. Also recoginising that Nikki'll probably stay in due to having a 'wicked personality'.

this is interesting - there were several comments at the start of the show that this was the smallest house so far, that there was less living area than before. given that the actual buildings haven't shrunk i'm guessing that the main living areas are so small because there are a lot of hidden rooms...
