Also, who else just has Tuesday off? What a waste of a holiday!

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

being still sort of new to the american ways i forgot all about it and as it turns out ill be the only one at my job working monday because im the only one who forgot to ask for the time off. duh.

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

I only have Tuesday off. But I have some firecrackers that I bought in Wisconsin to help ease me along.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

i'll be at work on monday. rediculous. there will be a skeleton crew here, nothing will get done aside from me cleaning my desk and maybe organizing my files for the first time in roughly forever.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

I only get Tues. off too, but it's my last week at this job, so I craftily arranged it around a holiday. haHA! Take that, wieners. I am so happy to leave this job that I almost posted my manager's goodbye email but I didn't know if there was a "take this job and shove it" thread or what.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

I could get mon off but my guy can't which suX0r.

We're going out of town for the weekend, to my aunt's lakehouse. Fishing! Boating! BBQing! Drinking! hurrah!

I think I'm going to take a halfday on Friday so we can try and beat the traffic.

And we're getting a new dog tomorrow which should make this trip a little more edgy.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

New dog! I think you have a blue heeler mix, no? I do too. He HATES fireworks -- it paralyzes him with terror.

Me, I plan on bbq-ing some meats on the 4th.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

yes! we're getting another one - a boy just like the girl we have now. My guy has met him and says he's much calmer. Hope he's right b/c Missy's a nut. Haven't had her through a 4th yet so don't know about the fireworks.

note to self: buy bag of rawhides to drop off at shelter.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you Jaymc.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

dood what's up with all these people having to work Monday!? fuck that shit. I plan on BBQing and blowing things up, as is my patriotic duty.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

I'll probably work Monday, but it'll be pretty laid back. The 4th is the kiddo's 18th birthday, so the usual cake & ice cream, presents, possibly grilled cow-parts if it's not too hot.

I will commence to drop a knowledge bomb. (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

Lakehouse sounds awesomely fun.

I have Monday off but I can totally do some work from home, which I will do, blazingly high. Just because I like somehow being the "productive" one around here haha.

Since the boy will be out of town with his mom for the holiday, I will be piss-drunk by noon on Tuesday, sunburnt and sweaty, hopefully disrupting the parade, which was just god awful last year. Then I'm totally going to my house-/band-mate's parents' annual 4th party, where we will continue the drunkening, eat all kinds of crazy grilled meat (his parents make, like, deer sausage and ostrich burgers and shit), and shoot off no less than $1,000 worth of illegal fireworks. Also, we promised them we would play a ridiculous version of "This Land Is Your Land", which we will do. With tabla and accordion.

I'll be in Portland that evening hanging with friends, including the good Mr. Casuistry. Roxor.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

For some reason my eye kept blurring nickalicious' post in with Ned's and this line:

which I will do, blazingly high

was breaking my brane.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

I bet Ned would be a great blunt buddy.

"NOSE SHOTGUN, Ragget?"
"Heavens!"

I am working on Monday. What a freakin' useless day. Like 3 people are going to be at my office.

i've dreamt of rubies! (Mandee), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

What sweet druggery.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

Monday - work.
TUesday - Hosting house and soul-destroying party. Drunken bike race, kiddy pool full of liquor, watermelon eating contest. Estimated probablity of police intervention - 70%.

burning the flag, no?

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

ill be the only one at my job working monday

I actually really enjoy this. I see any work I actually do as a bonus, and I can do whatever I like in the ofice, take long lunches, and feel smug for not wasting a day's holiday. Revel in it!

it must be very cool to have a birthday on July 4th. Its like one huge nationwide party.

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

Note to self: must think of way to make flagburning competetive drunken sport.

John Justen, HUSH UP LITTLE MANG. (johnjusten), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

I'm working Monday... AND Tuesday.

JJ - it could be, like, a RACE. Whoever's flag is the last one not burnt all the way up has to EAT THE ASHES.

I have no vacation time left so my plan to go up to the Yuba River has fallen through since I'll have to work Monday. Monday night, we're going up to see friends in Napa where we'll scorch animal flesh and guzzle wine and where I'll watch what I imagine will be the Germany vs. Italy semifinal.

i get this, too! 31 dec, baby! the whole world parties for my birthday (or, maybe, because my birthday's over!). though i think 4 july is much better because then you don't get the 'oh it's your combined christmas/bday present' scam.

tehresa, who will here remain anonymous (tehresa), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

Goddamned line-up-hours-early obssessive indie idiots took all the Belle & Sebastian tickets yesterday for the free July 4 show in Battery Park.
So...I'll probably work. This only being about my 4th July 4th ever, I'm not exactly sure what's meant to be done on the day. BBQing and blowing stuff up sounds pretty good though.

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 16:58 (nineteen years ago)

Lauren, nice call.

If the weather holds up, I'll be lazing by the pool with the DC girls.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

At my old company, if 4th of July fell on a Wednesday, they'd just give us like the whole fuckin week off. Not here ;_;

I'm off on Tuesday only so I too will be sitting by quincie's pool.

Allyzay will never stop making pancakes (allyzay), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be on an aeroplane, wishing I were joining in on the drinking portion of the DC pool party.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

Take kids to parade in morning (kids like to catch candy); in afternoon possibly check out bike races downtown (my cousin will be racing); definitely view fireworks at night. Hmmmm, we should probably eat in there, too.

July 3rd: Free El Gran Combo (best salsa band ever) concert on the Parkway in Philadelphia. Not sure about the 4th itself. Maybe burn a flag.

I see that joke has already been made about a dozen times. Anyway I'd hate to be perceived as celebrating the fourth per se, rather than just enjoying a day off. Maybe I will finally clean my bathroom.

There will be studying in the morning, followed by a healthy round of cooked meat on the BRAND NEW grill and beer.

And I will sing...SING.... SING!!!!

This is who I am,

Big Loud Ape Mountain (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 29 June 2006 02:12 (nineteen years ago)

four years pass...

See, when I read my post on this, I recall how utterly HOPELESS I was then.

Much better now.

I will probably be trying out some of the recipes from this NYTimes Article on Grilling .

I will also be watching some World Cup action.

I will probably go swimming, and then will play some guitar.

I love me a long weekend when life is fair - to - good. And it certainly is right now.

Happy 4th, y'all.
