I always felt like the only one.

after i got over the wannabe conan thing, i got to liking kilbie. he had some cool segments. i really only caught him on his show and old school, though.

tehresa, who will here remain anonymous (tehresa), Monday, 17 July 2006 04:19 (eighteen years ago)

total prick

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 17 July 2006 04:51 (eighteen years ago)

Never liked him.
Craig Ferguson is kind of a bizarre replacement, though. Likeable enough, but he just endlessly apes Eddie Izzard's delivery without being anywhere near as funny. I miss Tom Snyder.

Also, I wish Michael Ian Black had gotten the gig.

Marmot 4-Tay: what those guyz make music 4. (marmotwolof), Monday, 17 July 2006 05:03 (eighteen years ago)

tom snyder was pretty pimp

tehresa, who will here remain anonymous (tehresa), Monday, 17 July 2006 05:03 (eighteen years ago)

me! i liked him better than conan. the "total prick" comment is true, but for me that was sort of on purpose and the whole point...the talk show host as egoist.

ryan (ryan), Monday, 17 July 2006 05:07 (eighteen years ago)

i interviewed c.k. once when he was doing a press tour to promote his late show, right when it started. he was perfectly nice, and pretty funny. that he seemed not to have shaved or showered i took less as a sign of disrespect to his interviewers as an attempt to sell himself as the perennial frat boy smart-ass. or maybe just that he had actually just gotten out of bed. (he didn't smell bad or anything.)

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Monday, 17 July 2006 05:08 (eighteen years ago)

I TRIED to get into Kilborn, I just can't remember ever laughing at anything he said. Didn't he used to host The Daily Show? That was before I had Comedy Central...

Marmot 4-Tay: what those guyz make music 4. (marmotwolof), Monday, 17 July 2006 05:12 (eighteen years ago)

he was the original daily show host, true, and it was good with him and liz winstead, but after she left, it went downhill

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 17 July 2006 05:16 (eighteen years ago)

He's been in my parents' house!

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 July 2006 10:48 (eighteen years ago)

Ugh, Liz Winstead. Ugh.

Craig Kilborn is not without his good qualities as a performer, but he's forever doomed to seeming like he totally sucks because both of his big gigs force him into competition with Jon Stewart and Conan O'Brien, who are both infinitely more intelligent and funny than he is, and they both surround themselves with writers and supporting performers who are also more intelligent and funny than Kilborn.

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Monday, 17 July 2006 11:41 (eighteen years ago)

What was that movie where he was the douchebaggy boyfriend dude cheating on his girlfriend that protagonist guy was in love with? Oh man, this is killing me. Imdb.com, just this once I want to figure it out mySELF.

Moonwalkbjrain (chaki), Monday, 17 July 2006 19:40 (eighteen years ago)

he never should have left espn

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 17 July 2006 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

did his time on E! come pre- or post-ESPN?

milo z (mlp), Monday, 17 July 2006 19:52 (eighteen years ago)

I liked him fine on the Daily Show, but ultimately Stewart's the better host. I also thought he did great in the late-night arena, but putting him up against O'Brien was just fucking dumb.

So basically what Perpetua said.

Will (will), Monday, 17 July 2006 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

I've only seen his late show once, but I liked it when he was all bitter/self-deprecating about Eric Stoltz stealing the career that should have been his.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 17 July 2006 20:04 (eighteen years ago)

I was just thinking how he could totally take over for Greg Kinnear playing a variety of romcom movie assholes.

the doaple gonger (nickalicious), Monday, 17 July 2006 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

My good pal 0pus M0r3sch1 was Craig Kilborns sidekick in the show (Yes, the nerdy one with the glasses).

That new Little Miss Sunshine looks pretty good.

100% CHAMPS with a Yes! Attitude. (Austin, Still), Monday, 17 July 2006 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

great daily show host (and wtf beth and unger and a whitney brown were awesome) and third-best sportscenter host ever (olbermann & stein), which is no small fucking feat. judging him on the late late show is v. v. wrong. also, dude has serious hoops game!

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Monday, 17 July 2006 23:39 (eighteen years ago)

yeah but kenny mayne was randall's backup in college. take that, smarmy boy!

to be fair, one of my personal sportscenter highlights was kilborn, after a warning track catch, murmuring 'the supple, pouting leather.'

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 17 July 2006 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

jams, kilborn got ups? did not know. he pretty much roxxors, that's one thing I know :)

Monsieur Perpetua OTM too (and we need to talk!)

oh, wrinklepaws! (Wrinklepaws), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 00:20 (eighteen years ago)

Kilborn would be really well served by returning to his sportscasting roots.

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

related:

brian unger ruled and though i was bummed when kilborn left TDS, i was more disappointed that unger wouldn't stay on. all other fake field reporters were pretenders to his throne. even colbert, though he did manage to create his own persona thingy that i guess may have surpassed brian's. i loved brian unger. that is all. continue.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 18:59 (eighteen years ago)

thing about the initial cast was that they were so different. A Whitney Brown had an entirely different vibe from Beth Littleford, Lizz Winstead, and Brian Unger, and vice versa.

kingfish cyclopean ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 20:58 (eighteen years ago)

oh wow, i had forgotten about how many correspondents they've had

kingfish cyclopean ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

I'm sorta baffled by the love of Unger. Guy's tenth string in comparison to Colbert, Carell, Helms, Corrdrry, Bee, and Hodgeman.

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:16 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, Unger's pretty lame even in comparison to Mo Rocka.

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

I'm just doing a terrible job with spelling these people's names...

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:18 (eighteen years ago)

a whitney brown was great, i kind of forgot he was even on the show.

the latest field reporters on TDS are the worst so far, i think.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

Rachael Harris was great though, i wish she did something other than commercials now

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

Rob Corrdry is great, Dan Bakkedahl should be really good in time. John Hodgeman is perfect in his "senior analyst"-type; i don't know how they could work out him doing remote pieces.

the only time I really thought Samantha Bee was outstanding was when she went off on a room of undecided voters in late Oct 2004.

kingfish cyclopean ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 18 July 2006 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

craig is awesome, selflessly hateable. he made the daily show; stewart and 6 years of bush have taken it much much further, but it wouldn't have been possible without kilborn's foundation.

has anyone caught unger back doing the "real news" on cnbc? weird to see.

I wonder what ever happened to Vance DeGeneres, I thought he was much funnier than his sister.

GILLY'S BAGG'EAR VANCE OF COUPARI (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 00:55 (eighteen years ago)

Didn't he leave the show for grad school? His departure show was great. "I'm turning in my badge and gun, Jon. Here they are. And my telephone. And my bowling pin. And my collection of superballs."

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 01:06 (eighteen years ago)

"baffled by the love of unger." there is a lyric in here.

granted, matthew, my memory, nearly a decade on now, might be playing up his steeze. but i thought he was rad at the time. he's certainly not lived up to any sort of mark since then.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

I remember Unger hosted one of those entertainment shows like Access Hollywood or something like that for a short period of time, it was pretty grim. I liked him on TDS though.
