j blount (papa la bas), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 02:29 (nineteen years ago)

closest i came to actually seeing swiss family robinson was the ride at disney world - DOCTOR CASINO actually READ THE BOOK WTFFFFFF. the last starfighter was awesome from what i remember. my aunt tried to take me to neverending story but i moaned and she took me to purple rain again instead. sure as hell caught it enough on cable though. people should probably put asterisks for 'i saw this cuz it was on hbo alot' - asterisks by all mine btw.

I read Swiss Family Robinson too, but the book didn't have awesome coconut grenades and booby traps, from what I remember.

Pushed up into his abdomen? Ouch. I have a dog who had to get an undescended testicle removed from his abdomen.

I'm interested to know if anyone else has ever seen Konrad. I haven't seen it since I was five, and haven't heard of it since. It was something along the lines of D.A.R.Y.L. or A.I., IIRC. I just remember the boy arriving in a box filled with Styrofoam packing peanuts.

This film had a horrible debilitating effect on me because it left me feeling sorry for inanimate objects - a feeling I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO SHAKE OFF SINCE. Only last week I found myself feeling sorry for a pencil or sumthin'.

Doi Doing! (Dada), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

Hah, I almost posted The Wizard. Explorers too, but I just saw that on TV a couple times this year.

The Explorers is actually totally awesome until they meet the aliens, at which point it becomes totally weak.

FUN FACT: The voice of the ship in Flight of the Navigator = PAUL REUBENS.

plus the aforementioned Sandlot, Harry & The Hendersons, and the two Short Circuit films.

Picnics and Pixie Stix (Charles McCain), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 21:56 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, throw Crash Course in there as well.

If I actually went through my family's VHS library, I could probably find 4 or 5 broadcast airings of both Crash Course and License To Drive.

Richie Rich... when this first came out (I was 6/7) I watched the rented VHS about five times in succession.... I used to use it as a method of staying up all night actually, just press rewind and watch again..... I felt so "daring"....

It probably looks cheesy and hideously dated by now. Plus I am very against the capalistic attitude shown by several characters in this film.... it would appall me.

About a year later I got similarly addicted to "Baby's Day Out"... who would have guessed that several years later I would have a poster of Baby's mom on my bedroom wall?!?!! (absent for a loooong time I assure you).

JTS (JTS), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 23:06 (nineteen years ago)

I just saw License To Drive again on TV a few weeks ago! Still kinda funny.

Marmot 4-Tay: The root cause of dragon hatred among power metal bands. (marmotwo, Thursday, 3 August 2006 02:21 (nineteen years ago)

I keep seeing D.A.R.Y.L. at my local blockbuster video... but I am too scared to watch it again. I was in serious lust with D.A.R.Y.L (data analysing robotic youth lifeform? something like that) and wanted to be him, and saw that film several times.
Also I was obsessed with running and this cheesefest was my favourite for a while:
The Coolangatta Gold (1984)

Steve Lucas (Joss McWilliam) is a nineteen year old who is filled with the burning resentment of being forced to live in his brother's shadow. His brother Adam (Colin Friels), is burdened by his father's desire for glory, and must win The Coolangatta Gold Tri-Aquathon, It is the greatest endurance test of them all: a marathon involving a 20 kilometre beach run, 6 kilometre swim and a 17 kilometre surf ski from Surfers Paradise along the golden arc of beach to Coolangatta and back to the start. The Coolangatta Gold is a story of human endeavour and endurance against overwhelming odds.
