you can customise the look of your LJ. i managed to find a template that i liked and i can be quite fussy about that sort of thing (you can also modify/recode a template but don't have time for that). many of the default templates ARE horrendous tho it's true.

obv the actual site is a massive dud, but I never deleted mine, and got a reminder of my 18-year anniversary the other day. I often kept it up as I like to read the old shit I wrote when I was younger, as a reminder of what I was like and going through then.
and I opened it and it's eerie, it's like a friendship graveyard, full of a buncha people I haven't thought about in 15 years, cos my life was more revolving door then.
anybody still have theirs up?

i wrote several hundred thousand words in mine in high school and college. i go back and read large chunks of it every year or two. my perception of myself back then changes a little bit each time. it was only the last time i read through it that i really realized how much of a little asshole i was!

sometimes it hits me how many people i knew back then who considered it totally normal to sit down every couple of days and compose a couple hundred words about their life & thoughts, and (of the ones who i still actually know) how many of them now have a panic attack at the prospect of sending a text more than 2 sentences. it seems like the livejournal/blogger era was some alternate dimension.

there were less ports of input/output simultaneously going so livejournal was a longer from diary and not your twitter feed
