aka, if this hasn't already been done, and I'm sure it has, 'please post photos of places/things/whatever that are almost but not quite the thing being ripped off.'

There used to be a gas station chain in Queens that started out for a few months as SAFEWAY and then changed their name to SAEEWAY.

It's not just a London thing. We've got one in Paisley! Perfect Fried Chicken, it's called. Somewhat over-estimating their chicken-frying skills there, I think, but it's not at all bad.

They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds. "

el borracho (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 3 September 2006 01:32 (nineteen years ago)

Dude in a local mall saved money by reusing the old sign letters from the space he bought out (switching the "R" and "S"):

Ulrich's cannibalization of the 126-year-old Rhodes company doesn't end there. He's using Rhodes' blueprints for the store --- saving him an estimated $4,000 --- and setting up the floor plan exactly as it was before.

And then there's the sign. He pulled down the part that said "since 1875" but made few other changes.

"The only reason we went with the Shoder name is because --- well, to be honest with you, that sign's worth about $35,000," said Ulrich, who is 44 and lives in Snellville.
