quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

I will not probably be around that Sunday y'allz, as I will be flying home to be embraced in snowy weather by my children and wife. This is good for me but sucks for NFL-enabled drunkenedness purposes, as I imagine that watching a game with you-all would be severely fun and probably result in some alcohol poisoning.

I will be exhibiting at a convention (the National Council for the Social Studies, lol teachers) which runs Friday / Saturday, so Thurs / Fri / Sat nites are all open. I will check back on this thread in a month or two when it is becoming realer.

MR QUE YOU CAN EAT IT. (If IT = a tasty sandwich or something.)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

I work at KU but it is not Kansas University, rather Kn0wledge Unl1m1ted, an educational publishing company. KU tried to buy our website but lowballed us on it so we ended up taking a lot more for ku.com from some British company. Haha at cheap-ass colleges.

Yay Ally, roger wilco. The last time I tried to hang with ILXors at a convention I got stood up BY NED RAGGETT, East Coast gotta represent better than that.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

oh and it's at the Washington Convention Center on 9th street. I don't have a hotel yet, probably be some fleabag scary place somewhere.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

OK the convention center is right around the corner from my work place! That thing is a labrynth, I hated working the neuroscience conv there, I think it took like an hour straight just to find our booth.

Also: NED RAGGETT!! *shakes fist*

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

Haikunym the Conv Center is a big spooky barn but you'll be in a good location for cheap Burmese food and drinkings. Plus Metro's right there so you can shake off the teacher dust and head into the night no problem.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

I haven't been to DC since...wow, since my cousin's wedding party in 1989, at which my brother and I drank so flipping much that we could actually stand my father. I can't remember much of the week, actually. I'm psyched to get back, although I will pretty much just be in the hotel room and the convention center, and maybe obliterating some brain cells.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

Youn appeared to have had a positive experience at Tabard Inn, which the ilxdc gang recommended a few months back, so perhaps you can consider it for affordable yet charming accommodations. Not exactly in convention center 'hood, but close to Metro.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

Ladies, do you like knee-high boots that stand up on their own, or the variation that zipper-to-fit? I used to be in the first camp but fear I am migrating to the second, enticed by the charm of the cheaper price.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

Haha now I'm just thinking of that bizarre story you told of that man who shook his fist at you in the bar.

xpost Mary I'm not sure what you mean, all of my boots have zippers?

And the dreaded SKINNY JEANS

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

These one's I'm talking about seem like cheater boots, they would lie flacid were it not for the material that clings to your calves.

Maybe they are called "shaft"? It tend to be that you can find them in less expensive versions, for example, not always leather.

It's more like a material shaped like a boot, like you are wearing a sock with a heel.

I got my first Payless shoes: white and black patent leather spectator pumps:)

Maybe for laughs I will try on some skinny jeans today (after work obv.)

Also: I am now obsessed with procuring NAVY EYELINER. Of the cake-type kind that you put on with a little brush.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

NO NO NO DON'T DO DR SCHOLLS, at least not until you try the pair I have yet to return. I believe that both Mary and I have concluded that they are possibly the most uncomfortable shoes EVA.

1pm tomorrow at 4ps!

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

Hey Dar1a feel free to stop by for coffee/beerz!

This morning I did the AIDS walk (in the rain, thank you very much) and then had a MOST UNSUCCESSFUL commuting-shoe shopping experience.

My new options:

a) Hand Brian 80 bucks and have him pick out shoes for me at Puma or other hipster shoe store
b) Throw comfy insoles into a pair of b&w converse high tops and leave it at that

I could not find any "comfort shoes" that were both comfortable and something I would be willing to wear in public.

quincie (quincie), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

Option B!!! Option B!!!

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

You people and your "morning".

Stephen X (Stephen X), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

I like option B, too! Although without added support it is not like all-stars are great for tons o' walking.

Also need help with: procurement of cool laptop bag (I gets a laptop with new jobbie! How long do you think it will take me to lose it???)

xpost Stephen, it pained even me to wake at 7 on a Sat.

quincie (quincie), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

OK I like these laptop bags, but I need something I can sling over my shoulder and not have to carry in hand like an old-school briefcase ('cause that would be recipe for me losing the thing in, like, two seconds).

Oops forgot link:

http://www.snapcatalog.com/laptop.php

quincie (quincie), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

Those do look good, but it's weird that they don't even have d-rings that you could clip a shoulder strap to.

I like the zippered outside compartment--I've always got to have someplace for easy mid-Metro stuffing of newspapers, gloves, meatball sub.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Saturday, 7 October 2006 18:06 (eighteen years ago)

that tumi place on wisconsin (near cmdr salamndr) has laptop bags. however, cannot gauge whether that brand is OK or not. brian miller, what do you think?

I usually just wear my gray Pumas as commuter shoes. I really wanted le coq sportif shoes but didn't have patience to wait so just went to the puma store to find something in gray. they're very comfortable. of course one big problem is, what do you do when your trousers are long enough to wear with heels & yet you have to walk to the metro in flats..?

Also: I think I hate gmail. All I want to do is move shit out of my inbox and into folders WHY CAN'T I DO THIS FUCK YOU "LABELS"

i think the best way (as far as im concerned) to navigate gmail is not filing anything under labels, and just searching for relevant terms, using the google search bar. this works really well for me, cause i can usually remember a couple key terms from the emails im looking for.

also, if i had to live in a world of a billion reply emails with subject lines like "re: tonight," instead of a billion emails under one conversation with subject line "tonight," i would just explode. more traditional email structure is like if every time someone responded to one of these threads, it started a whole new thread, which could be interrupted by other threads, etc etc etc.

also, gmail gives you like 3GB of storage (i use like 80% of mine), the integrated IM is browser-based, so doesnt require downloading a separate program, and is waaaaaay more discreet/harder to block for work IM'ing. also, the spam filter is very good.
