I can't believe I actually just tried to do a search to find previous threads where we talked about the search function not working. It's been a long day.

Yes, for at least 4-5 days. I've been using Google.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 21:56 (eighteen years ago)

It has been disabled for now since it has an effect on ILX shutdowns at present. Please use the Google search.

for at least 4-5 days

huh, I haven't gotten it to work AT ALL since my triumphant return to ilx, back in JUNE, and have since gone with google + site:ilx.wh3rd.net/ilx.p3r.net.

Those who feel compelled to bring related threads to our attention for purposes of edification/chiding/streamlining should really seek out a career in debt consolidation.

searching breaks ilx! no search!

Sam rides the beat like a bicycle (Molly Jones), Tuesday, 7 November 2006 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

Yes. My heart was breaking and I needed help. Searched "broken heart" and was resoundingly rejected over and over. Really made my day.

how are you supposed to know about those threads if you can't search, smartass?

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:06 (eighteen years ago)

You search via google. There's a box on the search page that lets you do that.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:09 (eighteen years ago)

(as several people have mentioned already on this, and other, threads)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:14 (eighteen years ago)

Surely it'd be simple to whack in a line on the search page that says ATTENTION: please use the google search only. The ILX search has been SWITCHED OFF.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:16 (eighteen years ago)

Well, Google search works, but it logs me out of ILX so that I can't post to the thread I searched for. I'm not the only one who has been running into this. When I asked about it on the Moderator Request board (Search question), stet kindly bumped the thread I wanted to post to, but this automatic-logging-out-after-Google-search problem still exists as far as I know.

xero (xero), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 03:11 (eighteen years ago)

Have you tried editing the search box text from site:ilx.wh3rd.net to site:ilx.p3r.net ? Thats probably what is doing it (I seem to be one of the few people who still uses wh3rd not p3r).

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 03:25 (eighteen years ago)

I use wh3rd too, but just tried logging in on p3r and searching with site:ilx.p3r.net -- no luck. Staying logged in on wh3rd and searching with p3r doesn't work either.

xero (xero), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 03:36 (eighteen years ago)

Huh thats weird. It doesnt do this for me. Maybe its a cookie thing.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 03:39 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe, but I have Firefox 2.0 set to "Accept cookies from sites"; and, just in case, I've now added wh3rd and p3r to the list of specific sites from which I want Firefox to accept cookies -- no difference. Oh well.

xero (xero), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 03:48 (eighteen years ago)

I wonder if its a ff2 thing? I'm still using 1.5.

I made them up.

M. V. (M.V.), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 05:51 (eighteen years ago)

am finding the google search annoying.

is there anyway to restrict searches to the title only? or to a single board even? maybe the new ilx could have board name in the url for each message...

(am trying to find a spam thread. am finding boards i never knew existed but not a suitable thread)

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Thursday, 9 November 2006 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno how to do it. Sad but true :(

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 9 November 2006 10:26 (eighteen years ago)

Search I mean. ILX has helped me and Logged Out with the other...

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Thursday, 9 November 2006 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

Put this in The Google

allintitle:asshat site:http://ilx.wh3rd.net

ONIMO ph34rz teh NOIZE (GerryNemo), Thursday, 9 November 2006 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

"Your search - site:ilx.wh3rd.net allintitle:spam - did not match any documents."

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Thursday, 9 November 2006 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

allintitle has to go first for some reason

ledge (ledge), Thursday, 9 November 2006 10:59 (eighteen years ago)

doing the same thing via google advanced search page

http://www.google.com/search?as_q=spam&num=10&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&as_occt=title&as_dt=i&as_sitesearch=ilx.wh3rd.net&as_rights=&safe=images

is fine though.

(um, might get my hacker hat on and write a little 'ilx search to google search' translator, shouldn't be too hard.)

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Thursday, 9 November 2006 10:59 (eighteen years ago)

do intitle: rather than allintitle:

oh xpost
