hi jessjess

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 06:11 (seventeen years ago) link

I knew I shouldn't have napped. I just couldn't stay awake, though. I napped really hard for about an hour, and now my night's sleep is fucked.

Also, my top lip is sweaty. I don't know why. I'm not hot, and nothing else is sweaty, but for some reason my upper lip just won't quit. It's grossing me out.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 06:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, I shouldn't have done a bunch of sit-ups. I KNOW better, that's the funny thing. I know that exercise makes it harder to go to sleep, but I thought, no, my body will defy all common knowledge and I will go to sleep right after this. That was two hours ago.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 06:21 (seventeen years ago) link

OK, RealLX might be back, but it's sloooow.

pens, action figures and glass shards (unclejessjess), Thursday, 4 January 2007 06:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not noticing that at all. Could be your connection. I have slow times sometimes, too. Doesn't mean anything.

I just spent my Amazon Xmas gift cert on a 300 gig internal hard drive, and DVDs of Alien, Blade Runner, Brazil (Criterion), and Naked Lunch (Criterion) The latter purchase was inspired by the Cronenberg thread on TheHold, and made just to spite the haters. I freakin' love that movie. Also, stories of personal interactions with Peter Weller from Julia's roommate will not dissuade me. He may be the world's biggest cockmunch IRL, but why should I care? HE'S FUCKIN' ROBOCOP.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 06:52 (seventeen years ago) link

I want to get a dog who I can name RoboCop.

pens, action figures and glass shards (unclejessjess), Thursday, 4 January 2007 06:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Laura, Julia's roomie, works at the Goodman where Weller was (or is?) starring in a play. Apparently he's testy, unreasonable, harassing, and just all around psycho. Is it wrong of me to think that that's just the way I want him?

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 07:00 (seventeen years ago) link

I really don't see the point of sit ups or abdominal exercises in general. They're torturous and you're not going to see any immediate/short term results. A six pack isn't going to magically emerge until your body fat percentage decreases.

Jeff. (Jeff), Thursday, 4 January 2007 12:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Everyone has a six pack under that belly fat, if you try to increase that muscle size now, the belly is only going to get bigger! Sit ups only seem to affect people who are have a low BFP and are toning/tweaking their muscles.

Jeff. (Jeff), Thursday, 4 January 2007 12:57 (seventeen years ago) link

That's all I needed to hear! Fuck sit ups!

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 13:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Sit ups and torso strengthening is good for lower back support, though. Immediate benefit #1.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

i don't think i can afford tt tonight, i waited on the platform for 32 goddamn minutes waiting for a train this morning and had to take a cab for the final leg of my journey.

fuck a cta.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Sit ups and torso strengthening is good for lower back support, though. Immediate benefit #1.

They can also put a lot of stress on your lower back and can lead to injury if done improperly, which many people seem to do because doing sit ups suck and they are stretching and straining to complete their ab classes. If forced, I'd rather do crunches

Jeff. (Jeff), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, I didn't know we were differentiating between sit-ups and crunches. What's the official difference?

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:42 (seventeen years ago) link

I weighed myself on Sunday for the first time in a long time. It made me sad. I could lose 20 pounds and still have a "normal" BMI, which also makes me sad.

I go to the gym. I was thinking of doing sit ups every day. Maybe I should do jumping jacks instead? What's the consensus on jumping jacks?

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:46 (seventeen years ago) link

i am actually frightened at the thought of weighing myself. luckily i do not own a scale.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:47 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm going to guess that I outweigh Kevin by...let's see. Thirty pounds. Possibly more.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, Sarah, don't be sad! You're not out of shape!

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:52 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm going to guess that i outheight laurel by... let's see. six inches. possibly more.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Did Regular Roundups ever line us up by weight? I hope not.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Jumping jacks: hard on your knees, all that off-center force being applied. Suggest walking or eliptical, instead. Also, please please do not be sad about your BMI; considering that I am technically "obese" I don't recommend taking it seriously for one second.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:57 (seventeen years ago) link

has anyone heard from amanda? is she back or when does she get back?

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 14:59 (seventeen years ago) link

i just calculated my bmi and i could gain 20 lbs. and still be underweight.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:00 (seventeen years ago) link

I thought you just said you were scared of weighing yourself?

I do the eliptical. I was just trying to think of something I could do to exercise at home in the mornings, other than walking which I do already.

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:09 (seventeen years ago) link

i guessed on the weight and put in what i weighed when i was last weighed. which is (i'm guessing) off by 5 to 10 lbs now.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Awesome.

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 15:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Have I told you guys about the Orgasm Alarm Clock? Every weekday morning, at 7am on the dot, some neighbor dude comes really loudly. It's my signal that I need to hurry up and finish getting ready to catch the bus.

Maybe dude just has an alarm clock that makes an orgasm noise. Like a novelty alarm clock. Otherwise, he is very regular.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Maybe the rest of his day/evening is very busy.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't know if I could tolerate hearing a neighbor orgasm regularly. On Sunday the guy on the second floor played the Whitney Houstion version of "I Will Always Love You" about 6 times in a row, and that was enough to make me want to kill.

and IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIII WILL ALLLLWAAAYS LOOVE YOUUUUUUUUUoOoOoOoOhhhhhhh

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 16:54 (seventeen years ago) link

we used to have a downstairs neighbor who would regularly bring home dudes, smoke a ton of pot (to the point where we were pretty much hotboxing in our apartment), then leave smooth jazz records on repeat all night with the volume turned way up. she routinely dated gang-bangers so i never complained or stomped on the floor or anything. the only thing i could hope for is that one of her kids would wake up and start screaming because that was the only time she'd turn the damn thing off.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 16:58 (seventeen years ago) link

my downstairs neighbor makes absolutely zero noise. it is impossible to listen to music in my apt.

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Dan, you know your neighbor must have been having a major breakdown.

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Or dresses up in ladies underwear and lip-syncs in front of a mirror.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't know what the hell he was up to. He's a quiet guy, usually. His cats running back and forth is pretty much the only noise we hear from up there. I think he's had a party like one time in a year. I decided that either his boyfriend broke up with him or he must be sampling the song or something, why else would you listen to it that many times?

Xpost hahahah EZ

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:06 (seventeen years ago) link

My old roommates Bob and Jamie, neither of whom were in any way romantically involved with me, and I used to randomly sing that song to each other from opposite ends of the house and it was extra funny when it would make the dog howl, which was often.

The last two nights our upstairs neighbor has been running a fan, which she sits directly on her wooden bedroom floor, until about four AM. Through the magic of physics, this turns our entire bedroom into like a giant speaker so it's like sleeping in the grinding, humming, vibrating trunk of a moving car that needs a tune up. HOWEVER I ran into her on as we were leaving the building this morning and she kindly agreed to put the fan on a chair from here on out. She is also an 8th grade special ed teacher in Logan's Square, which means that she has to be pretty awesome because, seriously? No thanks.

jennyjennyjenny (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I just rediscovered a love of mac n cheese. Actually, I hated it growing up, so I'm just discovering it for the first time now. We made it last night for the first time. MIAM! I mention it because lunch is in 15 minutes and I brought leftovers. I also mention it because I'm sure you all care.

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:48 (seventeen years ago) link

How could you have hated mac & cheese as a kid??

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:49 (seventeen years ago) link

i didn't dig it either. i totally do now though.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:50 (seventeen years ago) link

It's slimy and makes a gross sound when you stir it up.

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:51 (seventeen years ago) link

When I was growing up, we always had fish sticks with our mac-and-cheese for some reason.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Mac is only good home-made. Or Annie's, if you add enough milk and extra cheese to it.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:55 (seventeen years ago) link

I never have mac-and-cheese at home anymore, because I never have cow's milk on hand.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, we just got the macaroni noodles, milk & cheese... I suggested we stop off somewhere like Whole Foods or TJ's and try to get a healthier version and Nick laughed at me, saying there's no such thing as healthy mac n cheese.

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 17:58 (seventeen years ago) link

We have milk on hand for baking and coffee.

I guess you mean you have soymilk at home or no milk, John?

Tigermilk?

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Tuesday, 23 January 2007 18:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, soy milk. I only ever use milk for cereal (where I have to actually taste it), so it doesn't make sense to have regular milk around, too.

I liked mac & cheese growing up but my mom also used to make tuna casserole, which was basically mac & cheese with tuna fish in it, and to me that is like the worst food in the world. I think I would rather eat human flesh than tuna casserole. Seriously. It was one of those foods where my parents wouldn't let me leave the table until I ate it so I would sit there in the dark by myself refusing to eat my cold tuna fish casserole.
