America Recovers: MC Hammer Records Video on Capitol Hill
Aired October 18, 2001 - 06:58 ET
THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: All right, get ready for the picture of the day. There may be no end to the tributes and the fund raisers for the victims of the terrorist attacks on the U.S.

KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Some stars are coming out of retirement just to be a part of the action. Take a look at this, 1990's wrapper MC Hammer taped a music video on Capitol Hill Wednesday afternoon. Proceeds from the song will go to the families of the victims of the September 11 attack. This song is called "No Stopping Us Now U.S." and it will feature Oklahoma Representative J.C. Watts, Texas Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson and Alabama Representative Earl Hilliard. This song will be released November 1.

MC Hammer: Let's Get It (Re) Started

MC Hammer is not the kind of guy to sit around twiddling his thumbs. When we get him on the phone to discuss the new film VH1 has made of his life, he's just about to attend a Capitol Hill reception honoring his new video. The location makes sense. For "No Stopping Us Now - U.S.A." Hammer has persuaded a number of politicos, including Rep. Diane Watson (D-Calif.) and Rep. Corinne Brown (D-Fla.), into shaking their tail-feathers in front of a camera. The rapper wrote the anthem after the September 11 attacks, and says it's "less of a mourning song and more of a warning song." Enemies of the U.S. better look out.

I was just wondering that myself! (Er, in my sleep). Can I still visit you soon, deX?

Ned, you don't want things to be happening in the city of sin, because usually when they do it leads to death. (oh the drama)

I avoided the other thread b/c I was behind and feared all the unread posts. hurray new starts!

I'm unbeleivebly freaking slammed. So much for a nice, slow 3 day week back from holidays. :( And I'm all alone in the office this week and had envisioned kicking off early and such. hah! I was in yesterday at 6:30 am and will probably stay late tonight. boo to all these annoying people and their webby demands!

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 5 January 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

Hi gbx and Sam!

Can I address FB as "JBear" in person from now on? Sooooo tempting.

Sam, sorry your work is teh suck this week. I hope it gets better soon. Is it beginning of term craziness? (Am I remembering right that you work at a university?)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 5 January 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

yes I do but the kids aren't back yet I don't think. I work for employee and campus services though so kids are nothing but an annoyance for us.

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 5 January 2007 17:26 (eighteen years ago)

We never actually went to Cincy! We saw J-Bop's family at her sister's place in Philly (MADNESS, btw; 5 alpha-females in one house = eek) and then my folks in Akron. It was good times! I HAS A XM RADIO! How was M-N? How are Chessmater and Nagawesome and L'il Bear?

I need to remind J-Diggy that I volunteered Feb. as a good time to visit, Sara. I am certain it will be fine.

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Friday, 5 January 2007 18:11 (eighteen years ago)

February could work! Must talk to A. about when I can escape. Anytime before my "spring" weekend classes begin, I think. (Did you know that, at St. Kate's, "spring" lasts until mid-July?!)

FIVE alpha-females, huh? LOL... but you escaped with your life, that is a relief.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 5 January 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

5 alpha-females in one house = eek

Ah, you love it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 5 January 2007 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

The fam is in fine health, dex. How are pops and viv, and when is your brother's wedding?

ugsp, I still haven't figured out how to see your documentary.

Sorry, ned, H-town was rather dull over the holidays. A portal briefly opened up over the courthouse and a large tenticle protruded, but was cut off when the portal snapped shut. The alien appendage quickly melted and evaporated. Hastings scientists are studying the resulting green stain on the courhouse sidewalk. Also, a few more children have disappeared down by the standpipe in the barrens. Nothing out of the ordinary.

To whom it may concern: This is the movie that goes with my vague description (i.e. - "about a watch that could stop time... and it starred a white guy with brown hair..."). Against all odds, A. (who grew up with no television remember) found this for me, using teh Google:

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 8 January 2007 11:30 (eighteen years ago)

Sam, I do hope this week is less hectic for you. Congrats on the new kitty - but sorry about the mess.

In HSTNGS-related news, I am an aunt again!

G4v1n 3dw4rd was born this morning at 5:32, 8 lbs, 2 oz., 20 inches long. I'm not a fan of the name, but hey, one more nephew to be the "cool aunt" for...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)

congratulations!!

G4v1n is a cool name. Do your kids get to see their cousins much?

Ms Misery (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:17 (eighteen years ago)

Rothsdale.

Watery G Tornado (The GZeus), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

Congrats! You want me to send H34th3r a Skinny Puppy CD to play next to his crib?

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 January 2007 14:38 (eighteen years ago)

Ha ha, Dan, that's an idea that I had somehow missed...

My kids see their cousins pretty often, at least on my side; they have one cousin who lives in Michigan that I wish they could see more often. But my sister lives maybe half an hour away, so it's easy to get over there or meet up in Hastings.

"G4v1n" sounds like a country western star to me. If he starts singing "Achey Brakey Heart," I'm so never speaking to him again. Then again, perhaps Dan's notion would head that off.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 8 January 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

Auntie Sara, once more!

It is a contemplative morning. But Loleatta Holloway is helping.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 8 January 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

I wasted my morning driving to St. Paul, hoping to buy books for my next class. Not in yet. Grrrrr. (WHY didn't I call first?)

Bright side: got to listen to The Cure all morning on my iPod.
