Over Christmas a girlfriend asked me if I had to kiss a man, (same sex) who would it be? This has somehow come out in work this morning (I said stupidly) and I know I ain’t gonna hear the end of it. If you had to kiss the same sex, A, who and B, is it a big deal for you as it seems to be here for people?

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:21 (nineteen years ago)

What, like three kisses on the cheek for birthdays & new year & stuff? Not very common, but not that big a deal over here either (Belgium, not far from the French border where greeting friends like that is more customary).

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:24 (nineteen years ago)

If you mean the full mouthsucking thing: I don't want to think about it.

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:25 (nineteen years ago)

Ah this is one of those 'standard questions' along with the 'sleep with' Q...

Frank Skinner said something about "Elvis 1968 comeback man" to which the gay friend said "you are so not gay it's incredible"...

Um, having said that, I can't say one. But then, being happily married, I couldn't say a girl either!

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:25 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway, I chose sawyer from lost as A, most people I know fancy him and B, he is a good looking guy.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

Three kisses on the cheek is very common here in the West Flanders, Stan! I guess cause we're closer to the French border maybe.

Tongue a girl? I think I'll take a pass on that one. Happily married and so straight it (doesn't) hurt. *shrug* I never felt anything for a (specific) girl. I can't hypothetically think of one girl I'd like to kiss.

not-goodwin (not-goodwin), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:37 (nineteen years ago)

We all slag my big brother about Ben Stiller being his boyfriend, because he and his mates were having the same conversation in the pub one night and he straight away said "Ben Stiller" as if he had given the matter some considerable thought.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

not-goodwin, you'd have to fight me for him.

teh_kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, okay, Parker Posey or Emily Deschanel. Actually I'll take both of'em.

Nathalie (stevie nixed), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

What he's completely failed to mention is not only have his colleagues dragged his choice out of him, in a bid to share the joy, he also told them mine (Which BTW is Sayid from Lost - personally i think mine is the better of the two...But then I would.) For some reason we discussed this whilst we were out and about drinking (and curiously enough, meeting Lost cast members) over Xmas.

Now, the thing is, I get into work substantially later than he does and was therefore subject to more than a few knowing comments as I got in today.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 10:53 (nineteen years ago)

Being happily married and terribly straight hasn't ever prevented me from daydreaming about what it would be like to kiss other people. If we're talking about people from Lost, I do think Kate is very pretty so I suppose I could kiss her (though really I'd prefer Sawyer).

I didn't think it was especially uncommon to have kissed someone of the same gender. I think most of my IRL friends have, as have I.

Monica Bellucci, Beatrice Dalle, Julie Christie.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

i feel like maybe half the people i know have done this

reverto levidensis (blueski), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

I guess that "same-sex crush" thread is sort of a different thing. Anyway, there are plenty of guys that I wouldn't mind kissing, so I don't think I'm the intended audience for this thread.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

I'm a straight guy, and I've kissed other guys. This was done mostly to cause terror in the kissee or to baffle/amuse onlookers. It's just like kissing a girl, except totally devoid of anything remotely sexy. It's often very scrachy, too. Like, painfully so.

If I had to kiss a guy (like, for reals), I would want it to be someone very pretty and hairless. Like waxed, maybe, or with Nair. And they would have to have a mobile, delicate, fresh-tasting tongue.

No sickos.

Adam Beales (Pye Poudre), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

When you're used to kissing girls, the scratchiness can be a surprise, but it's not an altogether unpleasant one.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

The scratchiness is bad. I was nuzzled by my (male) housemate the other day, I've still got the friction burns.

Johnney B English (stigoftdump), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:23 (nineteen years ago)

I thought it was common for curious teenagers, less so for everyone else.
-- Johnney B English

But curious teenagers don't all die at the age of 20, they grow up and even if they never do the same-sex-snog thing again then they still have at one point.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:25 (nineteen years ago)

This is SO much easier than "Who Would You Rather Do?".

Kate Winslet.

"No sickos."

-- Adam Beales
You are really limiting yourself. Sickos can be very good kissers.

aimurchie (aimurchie), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

Let this learn you and learn you good. Never answer a leading hypothetical question about having sex with anyone who isn't your current partner. Not in jest. Not in fun. Not even if your current partner is who asks you. Not never. Not nohow. Just don't.

Louis, here's a thought. Stop using emoticons for a couple of weeks. I guarantee you you'll get less grief, and if it makes you consider the wording of your posts a little bit more carefully, then everyone's a winner.

(not sparked by this post in particular btw, I just had this thought the other day and don't think I said anything)

The ellipsis' sad demise from honest linguistic tool to mere conversational augment is, I'm sure you'll all agree, a tragic one.

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

And they would have to have a mobile

To call a cab home afterwards?

C J (C J), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

Everyone's down on those three little dots.

I like 'em when used properly (to indicate elision), and I like 'em when used more colloquially, to indicate a pregnant pause in which one might wait for the other shoe to drop.

Then again, I abuse the elipsis horribly, so I'm probably the last one who should be giving lessons on its use.

Elipsis elided.

Adam Beales (Pye Poudre), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 18:52 (nineteen years ago)
