Generations

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

great i'm part of a generation that shares its name with a crappy gregg araki film

acid waffle house (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't believed in any generation names since Generation X, because they are all stupid and nobody ever uses them.

iGeneration, the Internet generation, is a subgeneration for the latter half of Generation Y (1985-1999) and the first half of Generation Z (1995-2005).

I mean WTF. You can't make a Venn diagram out of generations and name the middle part. Plus the name is insultingly stupid.

In otherwards, a Gregg Araki film.

It is unpossible that my brother and I are part of the same generation (either X or DOOM).

milo z (mlp), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, if you're going to pick out a generation name while it's barely happening, why not call it THE TRULY BEST GENERATION or something self-aggrandizing?

Abbott (Abbott), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

yes, ned. thank you. as always.

acid waffle house (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

the dates vary somewhat widely, including within wikipedia

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

Has anyone read any of the books by Strauss and Howe? I own 13th Gen (their name for Generation X) and remember flipping through a copy of Millennials Rising when it came out.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

roger goodell (gear), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

what was the definitive style/genre for each year?

69 (plsmith), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

these distinctions are arbitrary and pointless, unless yr a media pundit trying to sell a book (or Greg Araki trying to sell a shitty movie, or Douglas Coupland etc etc)

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 00:34 (nineteen years ago)

I am pretty definitely of the same generation as the kids I teach who are like 13, but I feel I'm among the oldest members? It's something like "people who grew up never realising there hadn't been an internet".
