stet, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:41 (eighteen years ago)

It's OK. Worked out how to do it without really going down.

Keith, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:41 (eighteen years ago)

YAAAAAAAAAAY! Thanks, superheroes.

And just when I thought I was going to get some work done on a Friday afternoon...

Jenny, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:41 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks, Oilyrags & Jenny... Very kind of you.

Keith, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

One minute is not nearly long enough to go down satisfactorily. :{

Abbott, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks stet!

And xpost now, yay!

You are hardcore!

Abbott, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

SOOOO much better! Thank You!!!

Spencer Chow, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:45 (eighteen years ago)

I hope you like the '--'.

Keith, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

I wish I could somehow do my best James Earl Jones for everyone and say:

THIS. is ILX 2.1

Spencer Chow, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

I DO

Spencer Chow, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

New, that I can remember:
  • xposts
  • revive HR
  • new BBCode that's more like BBCode
  • HTML-to-BBCode translator (works for Flickr)
  • IMG links
  • Stylesheet preferences
  • default stylesheet tweaks
  • longer session times,
  • no more log-out-when-close window
  • email address hiding (K???@N??.O?.B?)
  • where the 'open all messages' link is when there are more than 100 messages and also how easy it is to see
  • board admin rights not being picked up immediately
  • board bookmarks for ILE and ILM
  • Auto-linking of plain-text URLs
  • better 'illegal links' parser
  • Links when images are turned off
  • Redirect back to thread, not new answers after posting
  • Webmail now has a reply-to of the sender's email address
  • er...

stet, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:46 (eighteen years ago)

i meant red box, yeah -- is back, ILM link on ILE and vice versa

marmotwolof, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

TOMBOT did '--'

Keith, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

I hope by summer we have a FAQ to help the senior citizen types (ME).

Dr Morbius, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

SCroll down! There's a link! I'm writing it right now

stet, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

deeznuts, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

Squeeeeeee!

Jenny, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

But but who will be the first complete cunt to find something to moan about??

xpost 5 xposts omg!!!!

Mark C, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

deeznuts, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

gff, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

haha hi mark! maybe its working now i dunno

deeznuts, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

Yay, just hope i can access this from work.

leigh, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

i was repeatedly getting some screen that said 'security check' if that helps

deeznuts, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, that's probably a cookie hangover thing from the restarts.

stet, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

Here's a bigger list from the other thread:

- some aesthetic stuff
- x-posts
- logging out (see note on site)
- revive markers
- where the 'open all messages' link is when there are more than 100 messages and also how easy it is to see
- email obscuring
- the all important '--'
- board admin rights not being picked up immediately
- automatically making http:// things links
- the bug that was making many more links illegal than should have been
- Links on the menu bar to the most popular boards
- Links instead of images when you turn images off (I think... Can't remember if I did this)
- Some admin stuff
- Got rid of hline and replaced it with pre tags
- Got rid of the clear button on the post resonse dialog

I did do more stuff, but I just can't remember what it is!

Keith, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

I just read stet's "what's new" post and I was about to type "my fucking arse" to half of it then realised I needed to refresh to get the new stylesheet.

Looks like there's a new comma after usernames as well?

Unordered lists too?

onimo, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

hooray!

Ronan, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

I love --!

Cuntish moaning:

It would be nice to have the option of posting after xposts, even if there are new xposts.

I'm getting a blank page after posting much of the time.

Jordan, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

I stuck the stylesheet I used whilst developing it on to it too - you can change on the preferences page, but the idea is that people submit stylesheets for use.

Keith, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

ah dear xpost how I've missed you (but slightly enjoyed the resultant busy thread chaos).

onimo, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

I've enjoyed having to input email and name meaning I sometimes reconsider dickish posts.

Ronan, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

Jordan are you using IE?

stet, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

Yes

Jordan, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

Also, you can submit after an xpost -- just hit "submit response" and it'll go through. It stops you again if there have been yet more xposts, however.

stet, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks coding stallions!

JW to complain in 5...

Leee, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

Pats on all backs, great work all around.

Thanks!

haha xpost!

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

xp like that!

We saw a couple of people having problems specifically with IE and the redirect-back-to-thread after posting thing, but I thought they'd cleared it up. It cleared up for me after I deleted all my ILX cookies. Maybe try that?

stet, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

ARRGH I could barely post that because all you frakkers kept xposting me and the XPOST warning kept postblockign me.

Leee, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

I see.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 31 March 2007 00:55 (eighteen years ago)

nice work dudes!

can i request a new answers link at the bottom of hte page for after you've posted, so you don't have to scroll all the way up or "back" your way through the msg-posting process (always kinda distasteful, that)

s1ocki, Saturday, 31 March 2007 00:58 (eighteen years ago)

I like the shaded div style sheet. Need some tweaking though, there is a lot of wasted space at the top.

Jeff, Saturday, 31 March 2007 01:06 (eighteen years ago)

I've seen the "classic" & "Keith" stylesheets, but I've also seen talk of implementing 'personal' stylesheets. How do we do that? Or, where can I learn?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 31 March 2007 01:19 (eighteen years ago)

literal non-proportional text = ascii art is back baby!

nice work guys, bangup job!

Edward III, Saturday, 31 March 2007 01:50 (eighteen years ago)

oh hey things look good but you know here is the first complaint: why have a button and not have html converter be automatic?

Two reasons, at least:

1. People might want to post up literal HTML for giggles and stuff.
2. Since the converter is pretty limited, you REALLY want to see what it does to yr text before you post it. In particular, the converter will give you a pleasant popup warning when it thinks it hasn't been able to convert all yr HTML, so's that you won't be embarassed by stray "<"s in yr postie.

I think I hate Jena.

Oilyrags, Saturday, 31 March 2007 03:09 (eighteen years ago)

I don't normally bite at freaky images, but, Jena, what is that?

To the coders: FABULOUS steps forward. Bravo to all, these are the kind of key nips and tucks that take us from something vaguely ILX-esque to something that really is ILX, but running eighty thousand times faster and in a few ways way better. The only thing I'm still hungrily awaiting is the return of thread categories to make the archives easily at hand again. But emphasis on the 'bravo' for today.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 31 March 2007 03:50 (eighteen years ago)

WTF, where's the complaints? How boring.

walterkranz, Saturday, 31 March 2007 04:23 (eighteen years ago)

Thank you all so much!
I'm taking a computer literacy class, (At a ripe old age), so I really appreciate your hard work!
it's really fast!

aimurchie, Saturday, 31 March 2007 05:00 (eighteen years ago)

Thank you! I just got in and saw the changes, so I haven't had a chance to enjoy them, but it looks delicious!

Jesse, Saturday, 31 March 2007 05:59 (eighteen years ago)

I really wish the PTW logo was over on the right side of the page.

mitya, Saturday, 31 March 2007 06:27 (eighteen years ago)

What I think would be nice is that after you click "Skipping 9999 messages at this point, click here to load them all," the page reloads and jumps to that point again so you can resume reading where you left off. Otherwise, I am enjoying the other changes very much, especially the non-lame bbcode!

onimo, Saturday, 31 March 2007 09:59 (eighteen years ago)

Will we get the archive back to browse through? I know iot must be somewhere as I can search for specific things. Unless there's a setting I haven't tweaked at the moment only the last 80 messages are visible.

Billy Dods, Saturday, 31 March 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

You can browse it through the Recent Questions link.

Keep clicking on More at the bottom to go back further. It's not as clear as the old lists by month, and the relative dates become a bit annoying at this point. Actually, they're always quite annoying.

But this is minor quibble. It's all lovely and zippy and we have our double dashes. Well done boys.

My main issue is with how crap the Google search is for many things.

Alba, Saturday, 31 March 2007 10:26 (eighteen years ago)

Sorry, "Next..." not More.

Alba, Saturday, 31 March 2007 10:30 (eighteen years ago)

Yo A... You coming along tonight?

Keith, Saturday, 31 March 2007 10:35 (eighteen years ago)

All of this is seconded. But srsly, I am hesistant to even to ask for more! Things are looking great.

Jesse, Saturday, 31 March 2007 13:28 (eighteen years ago)

Hi dudes, awesome work! This looks so much better, and so much more like Old ILX!

Just out of interest, what constitutes 'simple html'?

Matt DC, Saturday, 31 March 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

Just out of interest, what constitutes 'simple html'?

Some very simple uses of these tags: <b>, <i>, <s>, <u>, <pre>, <blockquote>, <img>, <a>, with unsupported attributes stripped out.

libcrypt, Saturday, 31 March 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

Ooooh, this is very nice!

StanM, Saturday, 31 March 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

Basically, the button exists so that you can copy in an auto-generated Flickr link (or whatever) and convert it to correct ILX bbcode without having to think about it.

libcrypt, Saturday, 31 March 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

You can browse it through the Recent Questions link.

Keep clicking on More at the bottom to go back further. It's not as clear as the old lists by month, and the relative dates become a bit annoying at this point. Actually, they're always quite annoying.

Hmm, ok, but anything older than a few weeks and it's no good. If I were to look for some threads from e.g March 2006 is there another way to find them? Or is this something I'll have to wait for until ILX 3.1?

Billy Dods, Saturday, 31 March 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

Cheers again lads.

kv_nol, Saturday, 31 March 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

beautiful! update the faq!

teeny, Saturday, 31 March 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

I'm getting the blank-white-page-after-posting thing that was a thing somewhere else (test version of this?) Hitting refresh sorts it, but it's a pain in the arse.

ailsa, Saturday, 31 March 2007 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

(also, please can we have the choice of going back to new answers rather than going back to the thread we just posted on?)

Minor quibbles. It's pretty much OK. Cheers.

ailsa, Saturday, 31 March 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

on safari there's quite a large gap between the menubar and mainblock DIVs. possibly because the

form action='/ILX/Admin/AdminDeleteSelectedThreadsControllerServlet...

happens between them and safari's standard CSS for forms inserts vertical space??

nice stuff tho ppl

Alan, Saturday, 31 March 2007 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

Oilyrags, Sunday, 1 April 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

thanks so much for fixing it so that old threads eventually drop off of sub boards. great work guys.

jergincito, Sunday, 1 April 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

This is really awesome looking/acting especially the everything.

One thing about oldILX I really liked was the line and the "Unread Messages" heading right above all the new messages and the later link on each message.

Teenbeat, Sunday, 1 April 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

ha ha ha

Jeff, Sunday, 1 April 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

Is the archiving-by-date gone for good? I kinda liked being able to go back and browse Early ILM.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 1 April 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

Having huge problems accessing ILX at work today. Was ok viewing messages but after posting to the Louis Theroux thread, got a 404 message (I think) and after that couldn't access anything other than the front page, couldn't even access old threads I'd been looking at from my history. Just checked and the message I posted isn't there. Even tried logging out, but still no joy.

When I try the login page it comes up with ''HTTP Status 405 - HTTP method GET is not supported by this URL''.

Billy Dods, Monday, 2 April 2007 20:34 (eighteen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Monday, 2 April 2007 20:40 (eighteen years ago)

Nope, still goes straight to a white page after hitting submit. Does this still happen to anyone else in IE6?

xpost to myself

ailsa, Monday, 2 April 2007 20:41 (eighteen years ago)

I like the layers of xposting, you get xpost message when posting after an xpost, we're through the looking glass here poeple.

nickalicious, Monday, 2 April 2007 20:43 (eighteen years ago)

For anyone who's running their own css up in this bitch, here's some 2.1 friendly stuff for displaying the "Unread messages" marker:

a[name=unread] + a + div hr
{
width: 100%!important;
}

a[name=unread] + a + div + a
{
display: block;
margin-bottom: 2em;
font-weight: bold;
}

a[name=unread] + a + div + a:before
{
content: "Unread messages";
}
