chaki (chaki), Monday, 30 September 2002 20:51 (twenty-three years ago)

haha and that girl just looks like any other slutty 16 year old until you get to the part below the knees!

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 30 September 2002 20:51 (twenty-three years ago)

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 30 September 2002 20:56 (twenty-three years ago)

emo = ome = om = sacred buddhist syllable = the path to true happiness is the obliteration of all desire DO YOU SEE???!!!

Mitch Lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 30 September 2002 21:03 (twenty-three years ago)

how did he get ashley judd with a sweater like that

boxcubed (boxcubed), Monday, 30 September 2002 21:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Lynskey (Lynskey), Monday, 30 September 2002 23:32 (twenty-three years ago)

brg30 (brg30), Monday, 30 September 2002 23:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Emo girls are so not that tall.

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh dear god, I have her exact shoes on right now, but in red. And really, her backpack should be swapped for a messenger bag.

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:15 (twenty-three years ago)

summary of everything that's wrong in the universe: a sweater that FITS is "too small"!!

the actual mr. jones (actual), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Hurrah for being 31, is all I'll say.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Lyra, what saddens me is that I have the exact same pair of shoes as in the picture. But I'm not emo, damn it! No, honestly.

Those shoes are evil anyway, since I tripped over them (while wearing them, mind) and really screwed up my ankle and bruised my arm.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:37 (twenty-three years ago)

It kind of pisses me off that mixtapes have suddenly become part of emo's domain. And while plenty of emo girls make look that cute, I've seen very few emo guys that look that cute. And, other than a lack of flannel, how is this look any different from indie fashion circa '97, '94, ...? Aren't 'ratty old Converse' the de riguer alt-America footwear for over twenty five years now?

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:41 (twenty-three years ago)

If you got them out of those retarded clothes, both of the models are kind of cute... aren't real emo kids way dorkier?

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:43 (twenty-three years ago)

she has my haircut!

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:44 (twenty-three years ago)

ILEMO

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:53 (twenty-three years ago)

If that's the case, may as well change the name to ILAMO.

Those shoes are really not emo per se, please believe me.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I swear to god, first thing i thought was, what's felicity redwell doing in this picture!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought black hair dye was goth. And funny socks will always be new wave to me. Fuck the kids. That girl looks like Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Or Sophia Coppola with a normal nose.

Jesus Christ and Grandma Too (Arthur), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I've never dyed my hair black...but I have the shoes. Am I hopelessly compromised?

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 01:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I wanna put it to Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 01:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i like her shoes. i used to have some like that. i also used to dye my hair black, and intend to do it again sometime. other than that, their clothes are terrible. i have geeky glasses, but i only wear them when i need to, in class. is there such a thing as tweemo?

di smith (lucylurex), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 01:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I love you Di, the invention of the word "tweemo" is a wunnerful thing.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 01:06 (twenty-three years ago)

arthur and james are my new wave lovers.

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 01:08 (twenty-three years ago)

haha that girl's hair isn't dyed black either!! pfft. posers.

the actual mr. jones (actual), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 01:11 (twenty-three years ago)

My god, 'tweemo' IS brilliant! Yay Di the Neologist! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 01:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I try to dress like that but am too lazy and don't put much effort into it so i end up looking like that anyway, but "for real!"

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 01:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Out of curiousity I Googled Jonathan Taylor Thomas.... gosh wow yes is this emo, wow I mean yeah!

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 02:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone gonna provide a link to this article? I wanna see, yo.

Mandee, Tuesday, 1 October 2002 02:43 (twenty-three years ago)

They look like Dawson's Creek versions of emo

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 02:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I wanna call my band "Fun Socks."

Jody Beth Rosen, Tuesday, 1 October 2002 03:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Those shoes are evil anyway, since I tripped over them (while wearing them, mind) and really screwed up my ankle and bruised my arm.
Oh no! I love my docs maryjanes; they're comfier than most sneakers.

And tweemo is brilliant!!

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 04:04 (twenty-three years ago)

jess that girl does not look "slutty"!

also I have emo-glasses and usta dress grunge/emo/slacker in college except moreso like I got all my clothes for free (which I did) but now I am a corporate drone with emo-glasses.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 04:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I would just like to take this opportunity to say:

I AM NOT EMO!

Thankyou.

That girl is kinda cute.

I don't have emo glasses, and my vans are new.

I could be tweemo, but I feel too old to be anything.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 05:56 (twenty-three years ago)

oh man i've wanted to see that terrible 17 article for SO LONG!!
well a week anyway

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 06:06 (twenty-three years ago)

THIS is not the thing which I helped to invent.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 08:00 (twenty-three years ago)

back in january i had already invented "tweemotronica"

Mitch Lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

a big part of e*o that fashion magazines have conveniently chosen to ignore, is that EMO GIRLS AND BOYS ARE SUPPOSED TO DRESS THE SAME.

what disturbs me most about the above picture is that the boy gets to be dirty, the boy gets to messy, the boy gets to be reading the deep books and gets to wear his grampa's sweater and gets to wear ratty sneakers, and the girl is stuck with the capri pants or whathideousever, the expensive shoes, and the creepy plucked eyebrows.

which leads me to the following hypothesis: the first thing the fashion industry does when it begins to coopt any subculture is reestablish gender divisions.

i.e.
grunge: plaid shirts-->plaid skirts
rave: shinybaggy pants--> shinytight ass pants
etc.

no?

gabriel rodriguez-doerr (gabe), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 15:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I dodged your witticism with a seemingly deadpan literalism. I'm bad like that.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 15:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a knapsack CD.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

i wear sweaters, cords, vintage ts, carry a messanger bag(i've had for 7 years), often a notebook and almost always a book book or two or three or four. I am not emo btw

anthony easton (anthony), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 21:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Rainer Maria *ducks*

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 22:05 (twenty-three years ago)

hey i didnt read any of your dumb ass comments because you are all stupid...
ESPECIALLY YOU GABE.
but anyways, i tyhink EVERYONE failed to mention the two most important items of clothing on an emo girls person...

actually three

>the "bitch bangs" - really short bangs to go over the

>cat eye glasses!

>alterna-girl army surplus knapsack!

FUCK your "promise ring twelve inches"

and the boys
>broken glasses - because secretly emo boys fight alot, because they secretly steam about their "love" interests boyfriend (and they ALWAYS have a boyfriend, or are gay, in which case it would be a big strong dyke kicking the little weeners sorry ass) so they end up throwing a skinny armed punch at the guy, to which he and all of his friends respond to by kicking the little dorks ass.

> his stance - the emo stance is like what somebody looks like after they got punched in the stomach and peed their pants at the same time, but are still standing up (picture it: hunched shoulders, staring at feet like going to cry)

>band shirt - duh.

OH SOMETHING I JUST NOTICED:

"seminal" ?? ?? ???

hello... uhh... urrgh.

this is all too stupid to even waste my time blathering about....

so look at me im dumb.

fucvk all of you guys though.
emo is really stupid, and you guys are all posers (the ones that are talking about themselves and their supposeed "emo" "fashion")
although i suppose being an emo poser isnt much worse than just being regular emo, which is lame and dumb.

hey i bet all you guys like bright eyes, huh?

waaah waah waaaah.

he sucks.

FUCK YOU!

love, peter

lord peter of the domain of doom (gabe), Thursday, 3 October 2002 06:30 (twenty-three years ago)

God him fucking self (gabe), Thursday, 3 October 2002 06:37 (twenty-three years ago)

hi pete!

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 3 October 2002 07:03 (twenty-three years ago)

If only all slutty 16-year-olds dressed like that! (above the waist, that is)

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 3 October 2002 07:07 (twenty-three years ago)

There is no basement in the Alamo!

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 3 October 2002 07:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Obviously I am a middle-aged man and not hip to you kids' fashions, but what exactly is fun about argyle socks?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 3 October 2002 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

they cover the ends of yr legs martin: no more clog-chafing!!

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 3 October 2002 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)

emogame.com Warning includes: 1) gay cartoon sex 2) emo music

bnw (bnw), Sunday, 6 October 2002 06:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Clearly the answer is gay cartoon emo music.

*bloop bloop blip*
"I saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw youuuuuuuuuu...
At the College Priiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide Week booth...
Your dirty haaaaaaaaaaaaaaair
Was hanging theeeeeeeeeeeeeeere
And I wanted you so muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch.
*bleep*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 6 October 2002 06:39 (twenty-three years ago)

They look like Dawson's Creek versions of emo
Yeah, exactly.
I am way more inclined to dress like that guy than the girl, excluding the fact that I hate the colour of his sweater and I would never wear a keychain. Although I don't consider myself emo at all.

Livvie, Sunday, 6 October 2002 07:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I think that is a DNTEL song, Ned.

bnw (bnw), Sunday, 6 October 2002 07:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 6 October 2002 12:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Emo girls are teeny teeny tiny. If you're tall, you can't be emo no matter what. Also, I don't think I've ever seen an emo girl showing her belly button. That's so Britney!

Sarah Johnson (coco), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 19:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Emo Girl fits handily in your pocket; you can take her anywhere! Emo Girl comes with EmoPack and EmoHorridSelfImage (some assmbly required, batteries not included).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

all the emo boys i know wear pretty plastic jewelry and lots of pastel colors. that is a misrepresentative emo boy.

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 8 October 2002 20:09 (twenty-three years ago)

eight months pass...
This whole thing is really fucking stupid if you ask me....the way loads of u are like "NO u have to do THIS to be emo" is hilarious! if you wanna listen to emo, then that's fine, who cares how you dress? I end up prancing around in floaty mad skirts, tight jeans, loose jeans...cords...and a whole assortment of random clothes, i don't however restrict myself, and say "oh no, I can't buy that, it isn't emo enough". that's just ridiculous, you say u hate fashion..but if ur comforming to this tight little boxed up emo fashion..then you're just as bad. Anyone agree?

Emma, Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

yea, me, i agree!

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I would consider myself to be quite up on fashion, and trends tend not to pass me by - the pic link is broken but im guessing EMO is like Skater boi's or something - is that the case, and what does it mean ???

james (james), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

thank god someone agrees! I was worried that everyone was "emo kids" with their heads so far up their arses they wouldn't see fit to wear anything that might be deemed unemo. I say create your own fashion..I certainly do :D

Emma, Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Just found out it means emotional so everyone here: Crying C/D? is EMO by that definition.

When did this become popular? my god, next the style mags will be telling us to shop at second hand stores because its soooo now, or wear shoes when it rains.

james (james), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't listen to Gareth, he only wears brown!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

That makes me so happy for the world!!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Does the Lego Lad on the right remind anybody else of a certain someone?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

That pic reaffirms my undying love for the word "badical".

Don't forget "stripedy"!

TMFTML (TMFTML), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

That's an awesome look! Where can I find these guys?

Masonic Boom, Friday, 29 June 2007 14:25 (eighteen years ago)

Seriously. So many guys walking out of indie gigs in central London dressed like that nowadays, except they resemble members of NOFX from the neck up. Just the worst fashion ever.

xxp

Dom Passantino, Friday, 29 June 2007 14:25 (eighteen years ago)

I think they may be trying to dress like dandies? But their heterosexuality just overrides any dandy aspect?

Dom Passantino, Friday, 29 June 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)

basically fatteys trying the russell brand thing?

That one guy that quit, Friday, 29 June 2007 14:28 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah. Us fatteys need to accept there's maybe three or four styles we're allowed to try, and stick to them.

Dom Passantino, Friday, 29 June 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)
