Prince songs for crush mixtapes

Years ago, someone who was courting me put "Gett Off" on a crush tape for me. It worked. "Erotic City" would be even better.

I once put "I Wanna Be Your Lover" on a crush tape -- I didn't get the guy, but when he listened to the tape he did go "I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU!" The same guy has used "Raspberry Beret" on all his crush tapes, often to successful effect (because what girl wouldn't swoon over "Raspberry Beret"?).

What is your history with Prince and crush mixes?

I used "I Wanna Be Your Lover" once. It worked for a week and then it was "Maybe we should just be friends again." Most recently I've used "Take Me With You", on which the verdict is still out.

1999 is its own Prince crushtape. At least it was for me and Grace Dulaney in high school. Well, that and Cameo's Alligator Woman. Damn I miss that girl.

I would always include "Starfish and Coffee."

every girlfriend ive ever had has been embarressed by my prince obsession. i tried singing adore to my current lover last night and she laughed at me. i would put these songs on a prince crush-tape (in this bad ass order):

I dunno.....mixtapes for people you have crushes on are a delicate thing, and Prince's work seems to be a bit too heavy-handed and overtly libidinous for this task (i.e. what you may read as a simple declaration of love, they might read as a sleazey come-on.) Approach with caution.

That's why it's all in the song selection, Alex. You're not going to convince someone you're interested in romantic wooing if you put "Jack U Off" on the mix, but "Adore" or "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" should cause maximum swoonage.

Dan Perry: Depends on the someone you're interested in, doesn't it? I wasn't a drama geek in h.s., but I was in a couple of musicals, and when we played Dirty Mind everyone came a-runnin' regardless of gender and preference. Don't discount "Jack U Off" if the mood is right....
