Tom & Jerry theme tune.

bert, Thursday, 28 November 2002 03:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Yosemite Sam!

Franny, Thursday, 28 November 2002 05:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Dobie Gray's Out On The Floor has been listed twice so we should wind back one, and we've done all of the 3 before 8 so my choice is:

51. Frankie Valli - The Night

tigerclawskank, Thursday, 28 November 2002 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)

52. Sidney Barnes - I hurt on the other side

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 28 November 2002 10:12 (twenty-three years ago)

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 28 November 2002 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

55. nobody but me by the human beinz

duane, Thursday, 28 November 2002 14:12 (twenty-three years ago)

What exactly is a 'SPACK'? what does it mean?

franny, Thursday, 28 November 2002 15:45 (twenty-three years ago)

a SPACK? umm. oh nothing. nevermind.

And on with the Soul...

I don't know what 'we've done all of the 3 before 8' means, but we've got two 11's so are we up to 56 or 57 or what now? And I wouldn't say that the Nancy Sinatra track is Northern Soul. Mod, yeah, but not soul. anyway.

56. Esther Marrow - Chains of love

57. Carl Carlton - So what (little diddy boy singing about all these hot chicks who want him but he just says 'so what'. sounds so so so wrong and paedotastic but ace too. I think Carlton became some cartoon funk bloke in the 80s too)

58. Pat Powdrill - Do it

59. Roscoe Robinson - That's enough

60. Terry Callier - Look at me now

61. Tommy Good - Baby I miss you

62. Timi Yuro - What's a matter baby

Come on come on come on, don't let this thread die! Where's all the posey anorak guys who pretend to like a track just because only them and three other guys have heard it? This is YOUR thread, chaps

Ian SPACK (Ian SPACK), Thursday, 28 November 2002 17:29 (twenty-three years ago)

There's a Hotel Spack in Transyllvania. Naturally we felt obliged stay there but it was full when we got there.

The three before eight were the three records they always played at the end of the night at the Casino:

Long after tonight is all over by Jimmy Radcliffe
Tobi Legend - Time will pass you by
Dean Parrish - I'm on my way

Talking of the Casino, did anyone see the documentary on C4 last night? I haven't watched it yet but I will tonight.

I'd list some more but I don't want to hog the thread and my mine's gone blank.

When i lived in Warrington a spack was an insulting term for someone who was mentally disabled. It was another name for a spastic. Its not a very nice word.

franny, Thursday, 28 November 2002 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

SPACK

Ian SPACK (Ian SPACK), Thursday, 28 November 2002 19:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Warrington's not a very nice town.

eddie hurt (ddduncan), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Northern Soul - what is it?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

17. Timi Yuro - It'll Never Be Over For Me

And that.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

If we're seconding people's picks I'll give this one full props (cos it's one of my personal faves):

7. Frank Wilson - Do I love you

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I think I get it now. M. Matos' comments on the recommended thread make sense to me. I was thinking NS was stuff like Detroit Emeralds, the Parliaments (both of whom I've been listening to lately and love), plus perhaps some stuff from the late '60s we call Beach Music in the States, like Willie Tee? I love soul music in general and this list is a good one.

eddie hurt (ddduncan), Thursday, 29 July 2004 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Some great cuts on here, but I can't believe nobody has yet mentioned

91. The Parliaments - "Don't Be Sore At Me"

George Clinton in his doo wop days - classic.

jsoulja (jsoulja), Thursday, 29 July 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...
Revive!

92. Archie Bell and the Drells - "Here I Go Again"
93. The Impressions - "Move On Up"
94. James Fountain - "Seven Day Lover"
95. Salvadors – "Stick By Me Baby"
96. The Carstairs - "It Really Hurts Me Girl"
97. The Tomangoes – "I Really Love You"
98. The Voices of East Harlem – "Cashing In"
99. The Diedre Wilson Tabac - "I Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes"
100. Garnet Mimms – "Looking for You"

Northern soul is the greatest goddamn music ever made. Ever!!

Honestly! This is, like, PERFECT pop music!!
