Maybe it's superhero namechecks, like Donavon's Green Lantern mention, or maybe it's What's On Your Walkman, WhateverMan/Boy/Lad/Woman/Girl/Avenger?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 10 February 2003 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

We did this back in October. Thread here.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 10 February 2003 20:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, ditch the namechecks, just a What's On Your Walkman...

Let's start with AQuaMan:

"wave of mutilation" pixies

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 10 February 2003 21:01 (twenty-three years ago)

"My Baby Does the Hanky Panky" Tommy James & Shondelles, just cuz I think Aquaman's sort of square like that.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 10 February 2003 21:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I picture him listening to The Wallflowers.

Amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 10 February 2003 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

if the Fab Four was the Fantastic Four
http://www.samcci.comics.org/reviews/covers/halfsize-ff039.jpg

John = Human Torch
Paul = Mr. Fantastic
George = The Invisible Lady
Ringo = The Thing

Here

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

okay, yes, but this is not about superhero songs, you lazy bastards. This is what do you think superheroes listen to!
http://www.toonopedia.com/crimson.jpg
take that!

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooo hurt me.

jm (jtm), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 17:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

you know, there *is* an issue where the Thing and the Human Torch meet the Beatles.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 11 February 2003 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I bet Superman only listens to "The Superman Theme" 24-7, that smug self-absorbed prick!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Batman probably listens to Nu-Metal, cuz he's SO into cheezy expressions of male adolescent impotent rage.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 18:13 (twenty-three years ago)

okay, yes, but this is not about superhero songs, you lazy bastards. This is what do you think superheroes listen to!
Ooooh. Okay.

Captain America: His cd changer contains mix CDs of Lee Greenwood (in reactionary right-wing nut mode), Joan Baez (in milksop-protester lefty mode) and the Squirrel Nut Zippers. He has some Public Enemy but doesn't completely "get it."
Spiderman: He always struck me as a guy with lots of Tony Bennett CDs stuffed between Pearl Jam and Limp Bisquick.
Thor: Uber-Metalhead.
Wolverine and The Punisher: Enya and Showtunes.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

http://www.rzero.com/books/GL-GA-1b.gif

GA: Tom Petty, one or two Tom Waits albs, he owns a Rage Against the Machine t-shirt, but finds their music a little too much
GL: Motown

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 20:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Very perceptive.

Wonder Woman: Hides her Shania Twain record underneath a pile of Ani DiFranco. Has a few cds of Greek pop which she rarely ever listens to.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I bet Superman only listens to "The Superman Theme" 24-7, that smug self-absorbed prick!
I always imagine him listening strictly to whatever was on the radio, him being such an easygoing demigod.
Now, the really interesting thing would be to know what Batman listens to. I imagine that he listens to classical in his study. Funk in his Batcave and Oi! when he's on patrol.
Agree/Disagree?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

the (old school) new mutants:

wolfsbane - arab strap
cypher - weezer
mirage - journey
cannonball - toby keith
warlock - dj/rupture
psylocke - sugababes
karma - anything on wyndham hill
sunspot - disturbed
magma - janet jackson

tony bleach (blackshoeswhitesocks), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 21:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Naw. Mirage would be listening to Classic Rock and Magma would be listening to Enigma. Sunspot would be into Sepultura.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 22:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Devo, maybe?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 16:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey horaceman, just used your pic as a background, very nice. Thanks.
Carry on.

kevin brady (groeuvre), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 19:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Silver Surfer - only classical

Wolverine - Willie Nelson

Mr Fantastic- B-52's

Doctor Doom - only easy listening (why do you think he's so pissed?)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, Horace, if that pic tells the truth then Ambush Bug suddenly strikes me as more of a Jimmy Buffett fan than a Devo fan.
Also Lobo (the "albino Czarnian") is very much into Celine Dion. (It makes his "fishies" happy)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 13 February 2003 14:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and Wolverine always struck me as more of a Neil Young (WITH Crazy Horse) kinda guy than a Willie Nelson kinda guy. Besides, He'd pick Johnny Cash or Merle Haggard looong before Willie Nelson.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 13 February 2003 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

if ambush bug :: devo (or jimmy buffett),

then cheeks :: ???

tony bleach (blackshoeswhitesocks), Thursday, 13 February 2003 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't remember. Suspect something involving lots of synthetic saxaphone noises and funkygrunts.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 13 February 2003 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Pere Ubu?
btw, if you do a google image search for cheeks, ambush, you will be delighted.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 13 February 2003 15:16 (twenty-three years ago)
